Power, Warriors Prepare For Barclays Cup Showdown

Share

Power Dynamos begin their defence of the Barclays Cup on Saturday away at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

The two-time Barclays Cup champions face Kabwe Warriors hoping to keep both their interest in the league and cup following their double last season.

Power begin their defence without striker Luka Lungu who inspired them with his four goals to the final of last year’s Barclays Cup.

Lungu left power immediately after that final to join TP Mazembe.

The onus will now be on Kennedy Mudenda and Power’s current top scorer Graven Chitalu to spark for Power in this year’s competition.

However, Warriors coach Happy Sichikolo has warned Power that they are not in this year’s Barclays Cup to make up the numbers.

Power beat Warriors 2-0 at the same stage in the 2008 Barclays Cup on their way to the final where they eventually lost 1-0 to Zesco United.
“We are ready for that battle. Lusaka is like a home for Warriors we have a great fan base in Lusaka and we would like to tell them that we are coming and we are ready for Power,” Sichikolo warned Power.

On Saturday, Warriors will hope the trademark spring in Sichikolo’s strut will leave up to the hype.
