Zambia National Broadcasting Cooperation (ZNBC) is targeting to employ about 700 new workers by next year.
ZNBC Director General Chibamba Kanyama says the national broadcaster is currently working on means of diversifying its broadcast content to meet the viewers’ needs.
He said ZNBC will ensure that it keeps itself away from being seen as perpetrators of propaganda but working to state facts as they come from its sources.
He said he is happy to hear of the positive responses from some opposition leaders who have so far appreciated the change in the way the institution was operating.
Mr. Kanyama told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that it is one of his major goals to ensure that he builds a professional media in ZNBC that will strike a balance in its content away from the bad image that the audience aligned the institution to.
He also stated that ZNBC was currently working with local film production houses to ensure that local content takes a led.
He disclosed that ZNBC has in the recent past been signing contracts with media institutions so that it can enhance its production and quality of programming on its channels.
He assured people in areas where the ZNBC signal is weak that will soon see a change as the institution slow moves into digital broadcast which he said will strengthen the reception of the signal in all parts of the country.
ZANIS
Only for Bemba PF cadres! Shame on mother Zambia
how many do you have at ZNBC currently who are qualified ..?
For what? Has the span of work increased? I hope this chap is not employing his usual theories he obtained during his Masters degree studies. He needs to properly marry theory with practice. We have these qualifications but we do not get so excited about them. 700 is a very big number to employ. You are talking of 3 medium size companies. Where do you get the revenues to pay their salaries and other benefits? From 3 pin TV levy?
1&2 ZNBC is using an employment argency to this. They advertised in the papers short list interview. i am sure those attacking bemba spent their time looking after cattle and have no qualifications.
please u cannot be this naive
Viva Chibamba Kanyama!
ZNBC was currently working with local film production houses to ensure that local content takes a led.
That is the best way to go, not always subjecting as to isidingo, muvhango, generation etc all from South Africa, when they can’t promote our local films that side. Go Zambia! Buy Zambia!
You haters, to start with, Chibamba is a learned and proud Tonga; hence his smile. The bitter ones dont smile. Go Chibamba, create jobs for Zambia. Viva ZNBC, Viva PF; Viva MCS. Those of us with qualifications will apply. True, those who have not been checking the adverts have either been cow-herding or reading the UPND Watchdog.

Those 700 have my heartfelt condolences!! Working for a company stuck in August, 1973 and workmates aged 95 years old reading the news. It’s going to be tough to fit in but let’s hope they can get some training in Yugoslavia on how to change reels for the Saturday movie. #dead
Signing contracts with Iran???
Kabamba Chinyama should invest those funds in improving quality of programming to multi-choice standards instead of having aimless targets of creating jobs to deliver emptiness. Same applies to RSZ. It’ll be a drain on tax-payers to pay thousands of employees to report for work everyday to play Solitaire on the computer when the train service is pathetic. The same old rails constructed by Cecil Rhodes. Let’s not go back to UNIP days. The memories of the suffering we went thru during UNIP’s final years is still fresh on my mind.
I ma afraid most have been too young to remember. We had to line up for everything including newspapers in those days and slow with PF policies we will find ourselves there
how i wish just 15% of the voting population could think like this
yes leave propaganda shit to the post newspaper.
Its not just enough to show what u call Local production, whats important is,is the quality up to the standard.I’ll give you one example,Football. When ZNBC use their personal to transmit a match live, its just a shame. Now,a much produced by SABC or supersport, its like one is right in the stadium, sound effect, commentary and camera angle.Furtherstil compare ‘SA has got talent’,with the ‘Talent yapa Zed show.’
Lets not be fulled by ZNBC that once we migrate digitally things will be better,no.Zambians always accept substandard things.
Whats the current workforce? Too many grade 12 s at your institution.
loss making and still employing. that sums up a parastatal
Priority number 1 for ZNBC would be to upgrade equipment. Lusaka studios has not more that 4 OB (outside broadcasting) cameras with one being dedicated for the president, leaving just three for general news. That is why they cannot provide more than one angle for football matches besides the cameras not being suitable for sports because they are too heavy. In economics there is a concept called marginal product, the additional output you get from adding 1 unit of input. As you increase the number of people to the cameras output will initially increase but will reach a point where any additional employees reduces output because staff have to wait for the few shared cameras and Chibamba should know since he calls himself an economist
700 staff going to which departments? This is one disadvantage of these government corporations instead of cutting back and an implementing lean management principles they are doing the exact opposite; next they will be complaining that the TV levy is too low to sustain their expenditure. ZNBC should be getting rid of deadwood and retiring staff, then make way for a new young motivated workforce given that the corporation will be switching to digital signal in 2014.
These UNIPists principles will not take us nowhere but in a sparrow of debt…i see ZAMTEL, ZRL, NCZ going down the selfsame route.
Iwe Chibamba can you improve the shooting of Live soccer matches, you are just adding more fat to the company. If you fail to beam a live soccer match played in your own country why should you think increasing the labour force.useless thinking ba Director.
They can start with buying new wide-screen HD video cameras. And why not; we are all converting to digital in two year’s time.
Then, they should get speech therapists to teach presenter how to pronounce words. My country is the king of mispronunciation. Here is a simple test:
ban, barn, Barny, burn, bun, bunny, bonny
Cell, Sell, Sale, Sail,
Ran, run, rum, ram,
Pain, Penny, Pen, Penelope,
Phoebe, phoenix,
Company, accompany, camping, camp, cap, cape
700, Really?? What is the current workforce at ZNBC?.I thought ZNBC’s main handicap was lack of modern equipment, and not shortage of personnel.
surely thus the way to go mr director thumbs up.
First priority for ZNBC is upgrading to digital from analogue signal then you can talk of modern equipment, why do you think picture quality was excellent on other foreign channels even though they were using ZNBC’s “hired” modern cameras at the last game against Uganda..that’s because they have Digital signal transmitors and ZNBC was converting the digital to analogue thereby greatly compromising picture quality.
One ZNBC sports caster last week read just one headline and then said as per their tradition, and i quote, “THESE AND MANY STORIES AFTER THE BREAK”
One ZNBC sports caster last week read just one headline and then said as per their tradition, and i quote, “THESE AND MANY MORE STORIES AFTER THE BREAK”
znbc is full of boring programmes and the 06 hrs tv news and 07hrs radio news are always pathetic as we are always fed with things like ‘……..was speaking TODAY during the launch of…..’ when everybody knows it was an item for yesterday and the TODAY SHOULD HAVE READ YESTERDAY meaning they should edit tuma news items of theirs
Where will the money come form when even today ZNBC staffers are among the poorest paid leading to bitching by most female staff?
Employing more chaps just for the awake of employing won’t help znbc, what they need in the short term is to upgrade equipment and improve programming ,not bringing Kenneth Madura to come read the news, when there are young black. Chaps who can do the job even better, you chaps are stuck inthe ancient days,

Chibamba should not cheat the public that things are any better now. Nothing has changed at ZNBC since UNIP days. Like Prof Kupe, the Wits University academic wrote about Zimbabwe not so long ago, “Broadcasting (in Zimbabwe) was and is used to consolidate regime power, smother opposition and legitimate the ruling party’s policy agenda, by defining political reality on its own terms” This was so with UNIP, it was so with MMD and it is so with the PF!
We wish you well Chibamba. You appear committed.
Please chibamba i want to marry ingutu mwanza. How can you facilitate a divorce from her husband. that chi madam is so nice. Transfer her to chipata regional office to frustrate the husband
Chibamba don’t also start making promises like the one who hired you. Where are you going to put the 700 new employees or you also want want to use the CNP of firing and hiring and say i a have created employment.Good luck been a puppet and Voice Mail.
Is ZNBC ON GIDITAL
if that is the truth job well done; director
Its not bad as nkows who the hart tells her to love, but be carefull ss you. May love some one who doesent love you.
