The United Party for National Development (UPND) vice president for administration Richard Kapita has also disclosed to the media that the Zambia Police Service has once again denied the UPND a permit to hold a rally in Mongu district this week.
This is the fourth time the Zambia police service is denying the UPND a permit to hold a public rally after the canceled Kanyama and Chawama rallies in Lusaka.
Mr. Kapita has noted that the security concerns being raised by the police have nothing to do with the UPND planned rally.
He has appealed to Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba to intervene in the matter. Mr. Kapita said that the UPND will not allow the Zambia Police Service to continue denying them an opportunity to interact with the people at grassroots level.
Meanwhile,GET Involved Zambia Executive Director Father Frank Bwalya has said that he was saddened the actions of police who had continued to deny the United Party for National Development (UPND) a permit to hold its public rallies in Lusaka.
Fr Bwalya said it was unconstitutional for the police to deny UPND with permits adding that the denial could create a bad image of all good developments that PF was achieving.
“It’s sad my heart bleeds to see police denying UPND with a permit. PF is doing a lot of good things for the country but the issue of trying
to block UPND from holding its rallies is not good,” Father Bwalya said

I fail to believe what I read sometimes. What was president Sata’s focus before becoming president, was is it not state house. so what is wrong with HH focusing on presidency. There is no conflict in Western province. He has the deomcratic right to hold rallies anywhere anytime in Zambia. That is not a preveledege as the few of ideally static stupid Police Force are doing!

Iwe @Sosa, the police did not stop UPND to hold the rally in all areas of Lusaka. They stopped them to hold it in a volatile place like Kanyama where knobkerry and machete carrying PF cadres were waiting and ready to fight them. In western province, you know what happened with the tearing of the draft constitution. These two areas in the police’s professional view were deemed as violent oriented areas. Let him go to the Copperbelt, Central, Muchinga Eastern province etc for there’s no reason to try and hold rallies in areas where violence is likely to erupt. When this happens, you will be the same people who will blame the police for not foreseeing it. Lets get real and preserve the peace we enjoyed since independence.

Bad timing UPND! Why Mongu? With all these tensions and your history for anarchy! The police were wrong for Chawama but they are right here.
Not chawama my friend but kanyama where the police encountered PF cadres who were armed and read for a fight. The Police are simply trying to stop bloodshed from happening just like in Mongu. The situation in these areas is volatile. They are more than free to old it on the copperbelt, eastern, northen, luapula or any other areas deemed safe for them and the public as a whole.

I think for Lusaka Rallies the UPND may have a sound argument over denial of permits but for Mongu with the current tensions there, ZP have taken the right stance. Rallies may just fuel more turmoil in an already volatile Western Province!!!

For your information, if a go ahead was to be given by Police then in the process a life is lost the same people who are complaining for having their rally denied will be the first to condemn the Police and Government.

Am a staunch UPND supporter and my duty as a member is to praise and encourage my party when it does right and also to offer counsel when it veers off course. Blind loyalty is a recipe for disaster. Advisors to the our president be builders and not destroyers. The rally in Mongu at this point of tensions there is not the way to go. What will be the opening statement at this rally? Tensions are very high there and let UPND not be the catalyst by inflaming the population in Mongu further. There are better ways to support our friends in Mongu than the rally for the time being.
