President Sata appoints PF losing candidate in the Livingstone bye election as PS for Justice Ministry

Share

President Michael Sata has appointed PF losing candidate in the Livingstone Central bye election Joseph Akafumba as Ministry of Justice Permanent Secretary.

At a swearing in ceremony at State House this morning, President Sata urged Mr. Akafumba to ensure that the Public Order Act is enforced and adhered to.

Mr. Sata said the PF whilst in opposition used to think that the Public Order Act was a mere piece of legislation until it got into government.

He also ordered the newly appointed PS to ensure that access to justice is enhanced even for the poor.

President Sata said it is saddening that the poor are denied access to justice especially for those in the rural areas.

And Mr. Akafumba said in an interview that he is grateful to President Sata for allowing him to serve the people of Zambia.

“This is a huge responsibility and I’m just grateful to the President for entrusting me with this responsibility,” Mr. Akafumba said.

Mr. Akafumba who has lost the Livingstone seat on two occasions is also PF Southern Province Chairman.

  1. how does a cadre become a professional en defacto head of a ministry????ukwa will never cease to amaze me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. At last a non bemba. But it is all strategy. It is the constitution. He wants a Lozi man to deal with barotse issue together with his banakulibonesya minister. In the end the failure to give us a people driven constitution will be blamed on a Lozi especially as it relates to the BRE agreement. Always clever. Ba bemba che!

  3. People stop speculating rumors. Mr. Akafumba is a qualified lawyer who has been practicing law for a very long time. Some of us have been represented by this man very well.just because he lost an election does not make him a bad person.
Mr. Sata has appointed a qualified person and now let`s move on with our lives and stop this hatred. Your time to rule will come and am sure at that time you will zep it.
Lazy chaps with nothign better to do.

  4. Lets hope baliba qualified aba bene ba bululu besu and not just a mere political appointment, the civil service needs qualified people and especially that he will be dealing with lawyers, awe sure, ithukulu is needed there.

  5. iT PAYS TO LOSE AN ELECTION. U GET APPOINTED. SATA IS A LUNATIC. DOES UKWA EVER LEARN? AKAFUMBA LOST ELECTIONS HOW CAN U APPOINT A LOSER TO PRESIDE OVER PUBLIC ORDER ACT? THE VERY LAW THE VERY THING SATA COMPLAINED ABOUT.

    • Typed in BOLD ka? Ati let me tell them in bold letters. Your time will come and you will shine and appoint also. You Mpangula will be VP, mark my word.

  6. INSTEAD OF PASSING USELESS COMMENTS WHY DONT YOU TAKE PART IN CONSTITUTION MAKING PROCESS TO REVERSE THE TREND OF SUCH PRESIDENTIAL APPOINTMENTS? THE PRESIDENT HAS THE RIGHT TO APPOINT ANYONE AS PS UNDER THE CURRENT CONSTITUTION.

  7. #11 YOU ARE JUST WRITING AFTER #10 WHO HAS SAID AKAFUMBA IS A LAWYER. WHAT DOES BEING A LAWYER MEAN TO YOU? YOU PEOPLE OVERSEAS ARE THE DULLEST.

  8. That’s the only thing MR Sata is good at (APPOINTMENTS) to make matters worse appointments to LOSING candidates and FRIENDS.

  9. Ever wondered why Mr Sata is always bitter, why he seems to align himself with Common Dictators and why he HATES the Western country especially England .
Mr Sata worked as a police officer arresting fellow balcks, railway man and trade unionist during colonial rule. He spent time in London working on the railway sweeping the platforms. Among other things, he was a porter at Victoria railway station.

  10. Does this mean the Justice Ministry now has three PSs. Patricia Jere was PS for Legislative Drafting, while the Miyoba girl was made PS in Charge of Administration despite her rawness. We hear that Miyoba was appointed because of her family connections to the Family Forest. But it was clear from the onset that you don’t rush juniors into management positions when they cant deliver. The Justice Ministry requires experienced hands at Ministerial and PS level. Old Sebastian was fired and I don’t see Summer Kabimba lasting long. He cant fit into the shoes left by late George Kunda.

  11. The poisoned chalice.
‘Ensure that the Public Order Act is adhered to.’
What does this mean? Arrest all demonstrators?

  12. the civil servants at the rank of deputy PS and directors should be frustrated as I do not see them getting promoted. Shame! PS position should be depoliticised if the civil service has to be effective. Sorry for PS Kamanga who was fired from works and supply. Is he the one who had to relocate from Botswana? If yes, you can imagine the incovenience!

  13. “I hear”; “There must be…”; “Lets hope…”; “At last a non-Bemba. BUT it is all strategy…”
Just think for a moment about phrases like these? Doesn’t this remind you of gossip? On a lot of blogs I get definitive arguments here it is all speculative, rumor-driven discussions… Strewth!!

  14. It’s so interesting to see how all of a sudden Sata and all his vampires are classifying Akafumba as a Lozi but when it comes to the BA64, they are only too keen to classify Kwangwas like Akafumba and Professor Lungwangwa as a separate entity from the others in Western province claiming they are not Lozi. Well, no matter how hard they try to divide those people, Kwangwa, Kwandi, Nyengo, Mbowe, Subiya, Mbunda, Mbukushu, Fwe, Nkoya etc are all one tribe called Lozi. Just like Bembas, Kasaiz and Nyamulengez all are one tribe descended from Mwata Yamvo jungle in the Ituri jungle fimi fimo!

  15. It is unconsitutional to appoint a losing candidate into public service. This must end. Madness of highest order and source of public service confusion

    • I was looking for this point you’ve mentioned. It is simply UNconstitutional. Lozi, lawyer, strategy or whatever.

  16. What do you people want?? if he appoints anyone who is not from South, West or N West you complain, he appoints a westerner you still complain. You are just a pack of good for nothing, lazy characters with no direction. Leave the Presido to do his work.

    • We want Ukwa and his cheating and stealing cronies out of state house. Simple. We will keep hammering just like they did to the last administration.

  17. did he not always say he would promote serving civil servants and not bring people from outside less-still cadres? am shocked! Chikwa!

  18. Come on guys you want a winning candidate in the name of an MP to be appointed permanent secretary? No. 10 has said the gentleman is a lawyer. Read all other bloggers before you advertise your ignorance.

  19. How can a Politician be a civil servant at the same time? Mr president appointing cadres to the civil service is wrong. Civil servants are not to be involved in political matters. My assumption is Mr Akufwamba is still a member of PF.Furthermore, people on this blog should not be shallow and say he is lozi, tonga e.t.c.People should be appointed based on qualifications not tribe.
