United States ambassador to Zambia, Mark Storella, has urged Zambian artists to seriously market Zambia at the forth coming United Nations World
Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly.

Ambassador Storella observed that with consistent efforts, Zambian artists have the great potential to put Zambia on the world map in terms of art and music.

Ambassador Storella also said with the creation of the Ministry of Art and Tourism, there is need to come up with a strategic framework to expose artists at the forth coming UNWTO.

Mr Storella was speaking in an interview with ZANIS yester night at Lusaka Play House where he watched the grand performance of visiting American artist to Zambia, Mahogany Jones.

Mahogany Jones has been in Zambia under the hospices of Amaka Arts under the Zambia /America artist exchange program and has since performed a number of shows alongside Zambian artists which include Cactus, Pompi and many others.

And Zambia Association of Musician (ZAM) president Michael Zulu said there is need to seriously create art as an economic venture for artists in the country.

Zulu also hoped that with government’s commitment, many challenges faced by the artists will be address and the industry could become an income generation venture especially with the creation of the Ministry of Tourism and Arts.

He has since urged all Zambian artists not to relent but to put up the best Zambian artistic works during the forth-coming World Tourism Organisation conference to be co hosted by Zambia and Zimbabwe next year.

  1. MARK STORELLA IS A VERY GOOD AMBASSADOR. HE’S ALWAYS INTO THINGS THAT MATTER. HE ALSO TRAVELS THE COUNTRY WIDELY AND HE HAS GAINED FULL KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ZAMBIAN LIFE BOTH IN RURAL AND URBAN ZAMBIA. YES! ART IS AN EFFECTIVE TOO FOR PUTTING ZAMBIA ON THE WORLD MAP.

  2. Maiko Zulu where are you, this is directed to you and your team/ committee, do start complaining after the UNWTO General Assembly about Zimbabwean artists stealing the show because you were snoozing and chilling to take notice.

  3. Maiko Zulu where are you, this is directed to you and your team/ committee, don’t start complaining after the UNWTO General Assembly about Zimbabwean artists stealing the show because you were snoozing and chilling to take notice.

  4. Hmm. Strategic framework. A breath of fresh air is blowing good fortune our way. How does one translate that in a manner which puts art and unity of purpose over vested interest and egos? The utmost respect goes to the kid who uses a mealie meal sack, coat hangers and tin cans to make his drum kit then plays the hell out of it along with his buddy on the tin can guitar. The answers are clear enough perhaps the right questions are not being asked. Remember what makes you love art then share it. That on a grander scale is the future. The kids still know it, see it and appreciate it. My money goes there and puts them center stage.

  5. It’s true a Phiri, only if you like it will you buy it, strategic frameworks can only lead the horse to water, not make it drink
