MMD President Dr. Nevers Mumba has challenged President Michael Sata to suspend Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba and his Justice counterpart Wynter Kabimba who are facing corruption investigations.

Dr. Mumba said President Sata should listen to his own advice which he used to give to serving Presidents when he was in opposition each time corruption allegations involving government officials surfaced.

“We appeal to President Sata to listen to his own advice and suspend his two Ministers, the Ministries of Justice and Defence are key at the governance of every nation and we don’t want such allegations present at these two Ministries,” Dr. Mumba said.

He was speaking in Lusaka this morning at the Radisson Blu when he delivered a “State of the Nation” address on the past one year of the PF in power.

The MMD leader also catalogued a list of election promises that the PF has failed to honour in its one year in office.

“For the avoidance of doubt, let me remind you and the people of Zambia of some of the pertinent promises made by this new government,” he said.

“I have highlighted only 10 of the promises and these are as follows;

  1. millions of Jobs will be created,
  2. more money in your pockets in 90 days,
  3. a finalized constitution in 90 days,
  4. the restoration of the Barotseland agreement within 90 days,
  5. chase the Chinese investors who were referred to as ‘infestors”.”
  6. “They promised to reduce the size of government in order to reduce cost,
  7. they promised to enact the Freedom of Information Bill in 90 days,
  8. ensure fair coverage of all opposing views in the public owned media,
  9. they also promised to fight corruption by the re-enactment of the abuse of office clause in 90 days which they have achieved but way past the 90 day period,” he said.
  10. appointment to the civil service will be on merit.

Dr. Mumba  lambasted the PF government for appointing ill qualified and uneducated party cadres in the diplomatic service contrary to their promises that appointment to the civil service will be on merit.
“Please take note that no one promised the PF to make these promises, they made these undertakings in order to give the impression to the Zambians that the problems of the country were actually very simple and easy to fix,” he said.
He charged that the PF has lamentably failed to honour most of the election promises adding that they won the elections through deceit and lies.

  1. Zambians have never voted on the basis of facts and truth. They vote for who they know and whom they like, regardless of whether ni cakolwa nangu ci lalelale. If they voted for the right people, the MPs would have developed their constituencies sustenably.
    Alas, it is not the case.

    • MPs developing constituencies? Legislators are different from the Executive my dear? Building of roads, hospitals, schools , water works etc is the work of the Executive. It is the Executive that prepares and decides what to spend money on! MPs cannot even change a single ngwee on a spending item. They can only “debate” a budget speech but have no powers to change it! Zambia is still a banana republic with useless and powerless institutions.

    • Please educate yourself and stop misleading unsuspecting bloggers, it is not the responsibility of a of MPs to develop constituencies. As much as they would like to see their areas developed, they can only do that at the mercy of the govt. MPs are just mere legislators baba!

  2. Doc Never,well said, but i have not heard what you would have done if ur where president or better still, the alternative good moves or way of doing thing,,,,u are only criticizing and not offering solutions.

  3. nevers, you are bitter. what education do you have to call others uneducated? you want sata to suspend Ministers acccused of corruption, why haven’t you suspended those nec officials facing corruption charges, including yourself?

  4. ba Mumba go back back to God and ask for forgiveness, the church was the best for you not this politics you have entred. If only you held on to the bible i don’t know about others but i belive that you would have been the first TB Jousha in Africa and Africans would have been floking to Zambia like water moving from one area to another.

  5. Finally, we have issue based debates being brought up by the opposition. If they can continue to pin point and highlight each other’s inneficiencies like this we can say maybe our politics will soon mature.
    It’d be interesting to get a response from the PF on this one

  6. Ba Mumba why bother yourselves we all know Sata is stubborn man this is the same guy who harassed his friends over 3rd term bid and saw corrupt thugs like Mandandi withdraw k2b. He won’t listen . Any way GBM is not a true Bemba he is awushi so u thugs saying Bembas are thieves think twice, unless u want me to also say TONGAZ are thieves like Kabimba

  7. Nevers is a very dull leader, with no strategy and no progarmme for this country. If he cared to undertake some research he would know that the PF is implementing a solid nation wide development strategy which is nothing less of a TKO to the bitter confused disorganised opposition. The Link Zambia, Establishment of Industrial Development Commission and many notable programmes will definitely accelerate the road to prosperity for this country. Not opportunistic behaviour by this ka trickster of a padre – mumba

  8. Good observations Mr MMD President. Only one promise fullfilled after due date although they are not even implementing it. Kabimba and GBM are corrupt and no one is concerned. Continue reminding them so that we can put a real UPND government in place come 2016 or earlier (see the panick in PF already).

  9. PLEASE MUMBA. YOU MUST BE THE FIRST ONE TO RESIGN AS MMD PRESIDENT. YOU ARE ALSO BEING INVESTIGATED FOR CORRUPT PRACTICES WHEN YOU WERE IN CANADA AS AMBASSADOR.

    • If there was any substance to the allegations against Mumba, surely Mumba would have been in court by now especially given the fact that the likes of Nchito, Membe etc are out to get him? What has happened to the allegations against Henry Banda or the hotels that allegedly were owned by Thandiwe Banda or the gold scam and the lexus ……..

  10. Dora resigned when she was investigated so I dont see why these two buffoons should not resign.

  11. Dr. Mumba, did I hear you say “ill qualified personnel in Diplomatic service”?!! Yes, you have just come back home from the diplomatic service, WHAT QUALIFICATION DID YOU HAVE prior to your appointment.???? Did you deserve the appointment? We were not born yesterday not to know how you were given your honorary piece of paper without any academic sweat that some of us have gone through; yet we dont open mouths as loud as you do! Is it the “chiwamina galu” you still hold on to? If you live in a glass house, do not throw stones………..

  12. This is Zambia, we dont fire people when they are being investigated neither do they resign (currently thats where the country is)…the best Ba Pastor is to encourage ACC to work according to the prinicples led down by the people via the constitution and the party in power…dont look for divisions but rather see how you can work together with govt and its organs to look to good governance and the rule of law…the people are watching your comments and actionsand are quick to reject you-ask HH…and ka Chipomo kala baza panono panono…LOL!

    • Unless they are judges who transgress Nchito and Membe of course. Siliya resigned. So why is the man who is allergic to corruption not firing these two. Other people have been fired allegedly for corruption so your argument does not hold water. Truth of the matter is Ukwa does not know what to do. If he fires either or both of them then he has an enemy who will spill the beans on the extent of corruption in the present administration – Ukwa cant afford for that to happen especially when he is just about to reap a fortune from road construction and the Eurobond $750 million.

  13. ‘State of the nation’, Mumba, penchant for posturing and perpetual animus towards Sata and PF. Won’t take you nowhere!

  14. U have condemned Sata for failing to implement 10promises and later u ask him to suspend or fire or remove kabimba and GBM?

    Sata wont do this especially coming from an opponent. he owes the two hence Sata for now will be ndwiiiiiiii.

    If it was the catholics saying what Mumba is suggesting, sata could have acted a long time ago, he is a buffon, a cartoon who is full of JOKES even on improtant national assisnments..

  15. Those defectors are “fair weather friends” who will leave the PF the moment another party gains plot one.Any true party ideologue believing in either conservatism,marxism or economic liberalism will not change colours overnite.But,alas, in zed its all very hollow and voting is based on tribalism,personality or chitenge bribes.Its for good reasons they say that small minds think about people,average minds dwell on events but great minds think ideas.Its very clear that ideas is not what drives zambia.

    • I agree with you 100%!! Zambians are poverty striken and bamuselela kwa kaba? No principles they want parties that dish them money and favours. We will continue to elect useless leaders that will push us into oblivion!

  16. Ba Mumba kwati bena balisambililasana na PHD yabufi, yet you only have associate degree also known as diploma, most people serving in foreign mission under PF government have university degrees or atleast better educated than this fake DR Mumba, just like his brother also with fake PHD ati DR Cosmo  Mumba.

  17. Ba Mumba nimwe you must have some sense of shame. You are also being investigated concerning the Canada money but you have not stepped down as  MMD president. And here you are, challenging yo friends to step down. Remove that log out of yo own eye and then you can see clearly the speck in yo brother’s eye.

  18. nevers people allegy many things. As for the two ministers this is just an allegation; didnt you steal tithe yourself and no one complained

  19. Allegations are not facts sir. Leave the ACC to investigate these allegations. Mr Mumba sir, you are the waste liar in that you cheated God and Zambians that Zambia shall be saved through yourself, but up to now God and Zambians have been waiting for you to save . Further what we have seen is you running away from the church…a lair for sure.

  20. i dont undrestand why PF thugs refuse to be reminded of what they promised the people. your days are numbered. we are watching your corrupt regime.

  21. Some bloggers here are very dull and childish.Nevers is rising very important issues which deserve attention and some PF cadres are busy writing rubisk.I believe every concerned citizen of Zambia regardless of political party should support what Nevers has said.Its disgusting to see people we entrust with the running of the affairs of the country are busy stealing the very little resources we have.What kind of greediness is this? .Kabimba and Mwamba should take responsility for there actions period.

  22. Ba Mumba sure,cn u surely acuse yo friends of cheating yt u r ze worst liar Zambia hs ever seen?didnt u say zt 4 u joining politics ws as gud as demotion,and dd n1 ask u 2 say dis?wher r u nw Dr Mumba,rnt u a politician nw?pliz dont say things zt u cnt do,baMumba God cnt b cheatd and mark my words,unless u go back 2 preach u wil never gt nwhere where u r,u knw ze power of ze tonque,dont u?pliz open yo eyes.

    • 1. He got demoted so that he can fight for the ordinary Zambian, do you have an issue with that. 2. God can use you in any way he feels fit – you do not necessarily need to be a president. If God wants Nevers to be president, he will definitely become one with or without your one vote

  23. I got no clue about policy on matters conerning a corruption investigation. Is the person being investigated supposed to be suspended so that they pave way for the investigation? If indeed it is written somewhere in black and white, someone must point it out to rest of us so that we know. The learned must seriously research the policy matter in all ministerial and department entity administration manuals. Once we have the written policy unveiled, then it becomes a matter of easy notice to the president in writing or through litigation that there is lack of adherence to policy. I think this is the way forward.

  24. If the evidence is there and is unquestionable that the people suppoesedly to be investigated are being favored, people have a right to protest over the matter. There is proof that the government leadership pays more attention to matters that are protested. Our living example are the UNZA students who for sure know that when they protest, the government listens to them. They know that the method works and it is for that reason that they do it over and over again. Why not do the same over this matter if the facts are there? One Zambia One Nation.

  25. Within 90 days is proverbial. It can mean 1, 2, … years  first term or up to two term. Do not take every thing on face value but think through politics.

    • Foolis.h FP supporter. The fact is the senile oldman by the name of MC lied. There is nothing proverbial after his promises, he literally meant 90 days, period. Due to lack of advanced leadership skills, he underestimated the task and thought he was still minister without portfolio, or managing farmers house…

  26. Response to Mumba. All these ten so called promises are a list of campaign rhetoric. A government cannot consider thises as developmental polices. But to please Mumba see responses:
    1. millions of Jobs will be created: Yes, and one job at a time. Are you saying you’ll create a million jobs in 1 year as president?
    2. more money in your pockets in 90 days: Yes, for those with some money in their pockets already.
    3. a finalized constitution in 90 days: You’ve got to be kidding me.
    4. the restoration of the Barotseland agreement within 90 days: This is a non-starter and no Lozi voted for Sata based on this. Ask Sinyinda.
    5. chase the Chinese investors who were referred to as ‘infestors”: Seriously, be careful, Ba Mumba, what you wish for. Cont…

  27. 6. “They promised to reduce the size of government in order to reduce cost: How is this an issue ?
    7. they promised to enact the Freedom of Information Bill in 90 days: This 90 days chorus is becoming boring. Be practical Ba Kakumba.
    8. ensure fair coverage of all opposing views in the public owned media: Actually it is supposed to be “all views”. You are not opposing you just react. An opposing view is made before an action is done and not after.
    9. they also promised to fight corruption by the re-enactment of the abuse of office clause in 90 days which they have achieved but way past the 90 day period,” he said. Again, 90 days? Really ba Mumba…this is boring.

  28. cont…….10. appointment to the civil service will be on merit: please provide a list of underqualified civil servants appointed by PF ob demerit.

    All these statements and attacks on PF cannot encourage me to vote for Mumba. I am yet to hear what he plans for this country. The dail starts now. Mumba and HH better start talking and showing that they are capable of running the affairs for the nation. So far, I am far from being convinced.

  29. The Penal Code Cap 87 is clear on false pretence as follows: Obtaining property by false pretence – (s 309);
    Obtaining pecuniary advantage by false pretence (s.309 A);
    Obtaining execution of a security by false pretence (s.310);
    Obtaining anything capable of being stolen by tick or device (s.312). I ask all lawyers to seriously search their consciences and determine the extent of false pretence related to campaign promises of the PF. Should we just look and accept the blatant lies and the cover up? I was amazed that Wynter denies that the PF ever made a 90 day promise. This is corruption of the highest order. The mens rea and actus reus are all present State Counsel!!

  30. Ba pastor tell us what you will do for Zambia differently from what ba PF balechita. If you cant then, bakalamba isaleni imilomo chapwa.

  31. Nevers is facing a bigger adversary than the Zambian voters. His image and conscious cannot be cleansed of being greedy for abandoning the pulpit for political power and privileges. We all were very much aware that most things will be set in motion in 90 days by PF, but would take a while to mature. Politicians should stop repeating the obvious to the masses as if the majority of us are dense and they are the only smart ones.
    We would rather listen to Nevers telling us how he would create jobs, improve road infrustructure, improve schools and colleges, improve health sector comprehensively, etc. No one, not even my 19 year old son believed everything will be achieved in 90 days and he still has hope! Un proven allegations can never be basis for a minister to resign! PF ignore detractors!
