Chief Government Spokesperson Kennedy Sakeni has advised the church to desist from commenting on the preliminary investigations into the alleged cases of corruption involving two ministers Wynter Kabimba and Geoffrey Mwamba respectively.

Mr. Sakeni said it is premature for the church to call on the Republican President Michael Sata to drop the two ministers to pave way for transparent investigations as the matter has not yet been verified.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS today Mr. Sakeni who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister said government would not take action based on allegations saying acting on assumption would result in government dropping the entire cabinet.

The Information Minister also called on the church to exercise patience and allow for the Anti -Corruption Commission (ACC) to do its work without undue interference.

He further said ACC is only conducting preliminary investigations to seek credence into the matter and that it was only prudent for members of the public to await verification to which government will take action.

He has since called on the clergy to instead concentrate on playing the role of uniting the nation.

The minister was reacting to calls by the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (ECZ) on President Michael Sata to consider dropping the two minister accused of corrupt practices, from their ministerial positions to allow for transparent investigations.

The two ministers are currently under investigations following complaints made to the ACC about alleged corruption by the duo.

Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba says he will not hesitate to quit as minister should the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) establish corrupt elements in the allegations against him.

Mr Kabimba is alleged through his company to have acted as middlemen for Trafigura in the oil contract awarded by government.

Mr. Kabimba who is also Patriotic Front Secretary General has however charged that he will not be influenced by media reports to quit his position to pave way for investigations.

The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia has asked President Michael Sata to allow Mr. Kabimba and his defence counterpart Geoffrey Mwamba to step down in view of investigations surrounding their alleged corrupt activities.

Mr. Kabimba was speaking to journalists in Lusaka this morning.

And Mr. Kabimba has expressed confidence that the PF adopted candidate for Mufumbwe Parliamentary by-election Steven Masumba will deliver victory to the ruling party.

He says the ruling party has gained ground in Mufumbwe and further calls for peaceful campaigns ahead of the pools.

Mr. Kabimba has also challenged political parties taking part in the by-elections to denounce violence and commit to issue based campaigns.

  1. There is one word..bloggers..which we can use to discribe the guy in the picture….call boys use it a lot…can someone use it…

  2. We are waiting for those preliminary investigations to pave way for the dropping of those corrupt ministers who are denting our Party’s image.

  3. Chiwamina galu, when Dora was under investigation during the Rupiah admin she stepped aside, whats so special about Winter and GBM for the church to keep quiet?
Has the presidents allergy to corruption all of sudden healed?

  4. mr minister dont waste your breath on what mpukuta mwanza yaps, ali pukuta nge shina. Mpukuta seem to hate pf so much.

    • He is the only church man standing. Others are busy looking after their nephews who can’t live in statehouse despite their father being a tenant there. A nt was set by Dora Siliya who stood down to allow investigations.

  5. NO, they are free to comment as the matter is NOT yet in court.

Sakeni, there is something called freedom of speech, whats your problem?

  6.  pf ideots too early to be that corrupt. Give the moretime you regrete well.
       Upnd next political option.

  7. What are you talking about Mr Sunken? You’re just a bunch of corrupt tribalists! In civilised governments Ministers step aside when they are under investigations. Anyway this is too much to ask of a backward, corrupt and tribal government!

  8. The Church has every right to comment on matters of integrity and morality regardless of who is being questioned. this a question of un-due influence on Zesco management. Government leaders, government employees and their immediate family should not do business with governmet or government agencies, its called ethics.

  9. this homohabilis. what is up? He must know the difference between contept of proceedings and opinion expression. Why do we have such people in Governmnet? I feel sad at the quality or calbre of leadership we have! Shame

  10. May the church leaders curse these guys and make an example of them and this ***** here speaking ill of the men of God may the curse of The Lord visit you until such a time you repent

  11. Mr Sakeni sir, that letting ACC do their job thing you’re talking about, that is what we mean too. Our only suggestion is that there would be seen to be less political interference and less opportunity for these guys to cover anything up in case they are indeed wanting. If they are found not to be wanting, well, they will show great dignity by having stepped aside to allow for ACC to work freely. If they refuse to step aside and DEC finds them innocent, it wont be as easy for the people to accept that the verdict was without political interference. It will be easier if they step aside. If they are innocent, thay lose nothing, and they gain honour and dignity. If they act arrogant, pa zed balifulwa.

  12. Sakeni should be last person to talk is he very corrupt at home affairs giving Indians permits and getting money, funeral for his son the where more Indians than Zambians and giving more than 100 Indian citizenship in one sitting he should not think Zambians are foolish your time is coming and you will answer no matter how long it takes I feel pity for president sata,he does not know people around him

  13. Ba sakeni sir, let the public debate the corruption in your govt, who are you to stop some sections of society who wish to comment about the bad vices commited by your colleagues in govt. Let the people talk without being intimidated and let the acc and dec carry out their dutes alongside public criticism. We voted for you and we will not stand aside and watch you commit any nonsense, you have the people’s contract in that office you are holding today…. We can’t fear you just because you have a big tongue as well as the mouth,,,kanwa ka ng’wena. Good luck ba Sakeni!

  14. This Sakeni has just somehow escaped from his humiliating self imposed leave following very well thought about comments by Mr.HH that ‘Sakeni is not to even fit to hold a position of a councillor in the UNPD’ those comments reflects the character of opportunists such as him. He is more than read to jump at anything so as to be heard that he is doing the talking and everyone else is dull except the most adventurous narrow minded PF regime. He is suppose to be managing damage control in lieu of further adding petrol to fires which have engulfed the troubled PF regime. He must just go through the bill of rights in order to have a clear insight into what is expected of citizens to do in the light of the unfolding mayhem instead of curtailling religious groups. Viva HH, UNPD

  15. Drunkard: I hear Wynter maize Kabimba is being hounded out of cabinet. Is it the Opposition instigating rumours about his corruption?

Bar man: No it is not the opposition, it’s PF itself and it’s Govt (the PIG) that is telling us that Wyter Kabimba is very corrupt and recieved kickbacks. he recently travelled to ASIA to recieve it.

Drunkard: Di he share with Ukwa the loot

Bar Man: Ofcourse, they need money for Mufumbwe Campaigns and for more money in their pockets.

  16. They are planning to use the ACC as a rubber stamp. The ACC will come up with ‘no corruption found’ result, and that will end the matter for both of these criminals.

  17. Iwe sekeni hahah dora resigned to pave way for investigations amid public pressure from churches and other cso’s. why should they stop now? GBM must just resign epela

  18. Chiwamila galu!! when father bwalya spat at the previous gvnmt, pf used to rejoice, they never said father bwalya must keep away from commenting.

    Mwape this is
Interesting news item. Can you please release some more data on this Sakeni guy please. He is Fred Mmembe’s and Wynters call boy. But what else has he and Fred are hididng apart from diverting attention from the K18 billion debt???And Fianance Bank US$4 billion? Has the guy got a cut there too?

  20. Let them step ASIDE. We cannot just afford to set any precedence. What a shame, after talking so much about MMD, they have also started. What’s wrong with our Country??? We seem to always have wrong selfish Leaders in Power. Mr. President Start cleaning up before it’s too late.

  21. Iwe #9,when your cousin was openning her cun.t,didnt she know that the chap was a priest? She probably tempted him into it,we know you stupid women on nowadays, you go to church in minis, tight clothing…….it takes 2 to tangle unless u say that yo cousin is a minor!

  22. The Church shall always speak for the voiceless so Mr Sakeni just find something to than stopping the church to voice out.

  23. THIS IS NOT GOOD ADVISE FROM A CABINET MINISTER. THE CHURCH HAS AN IMPORTANT ROLE TO PLAY IN INFLUENCING THE SITUATION, AND THERE IS NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE.

WINTER & GBM NEED TO GO ON MORAL GROUNDS AND THE CHURCH NEEDS TO COME OUT STRONGLY ON THIS. PLEASE REMEMBER, IT IS THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE REQUESTING THAT THEY STEP DOWN RIGHT NOW, AND THE CHURCH NEEDS TO BLOW THE TRUMPET.

AFTER THEY ARE INVESTIGATED, AND FOUND THAT THEY WERE NOT INVOLVED IN BREAKING THE LAW, THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE WILL AGAIN WELCOME THEM.

    REMEMBER THE DORA BOX CASE?

WINTER IS JUSTICE MINISTER, CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT SORT OF PICTURE WE ARE PORTRAYING, A GOVERNMENT WHICH CAN BREAK THE LAW THROUGH ITS JUSTICE MINISTER?

  24. Its not for this clown to say when the church should comment. The church will speak for the silent majority at any time. Why does he want to regulate when the church must speak? The man must tell the nation why the two ministers should not stand down to allow for unimpeded investigations. The clowns are covering up for each other.

  25. Corruption in Zambia cannot finish. It is endemic. Have you seen police road blocks are back, after PF said they would be no road blocks

  26. What is wrong with the PF Government kanshi? When it suits you, you urge the Church to be pro-active in the fight and fight against corruption. The latest statement was made by the President himself at the Cathederal of the Holy Cross when all and sundry were celebrating its Diamond Jubilee. Now Mr Sakeni does want the Church to comment on the two Ministers’corruption scandal, much to the contrary of what the President instructed during those festivities at the Cathedral? Please President Sata, fire this man with immediate effect. He is does not want to adhere to your instructions. He is an opposition member within the PF!
