Share

Government has announced that the Chipolopolo Boys will receive $5000 each as winning bonus if they beat Uganda in Saturday’s decisive 2013 Africa Cup qualifier away in Kampala.

Revealing the pledge, Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili said government wanted to motivate the team ahead of the crucial encounter.
“When they win they are supposed to get $3000 but we will give them $5000. This is a crucial game, we have decided to increase winning bonus so that we can encourage the team to out and win the Uganda game and qualify to go and defend the Africa Cup,” Kambwili said.

He emphasised that government expect Zambia to beat Uganda at Namboole Stadium.

“We don’t expect anything less than a win, as government we have done everything for the team, we have secured a charter flight with Konkola Copper Mines and we have camped the team in South Africa,” Kambwili added.

  1. This is just the wrong outdated approach to motivating the team; moreover should such resources be directed to a select few who are already paid handsomely by their respective clubs…putting on the jersey should be about pride and honour. This buffoon Kambwili should leave such gestures for the private sector. FAZ has over $1m  in its account nobody knows where they have invested these monies so far; let them pay the boys from what the bank is paying them in interest. That $2000 extra should instead be directed to improving sports infrastructure, training and grass roots sports OR paying off farmers for their maize.

  2. What is more important? Farming or soccer? The gesture is good but look at how farmers are suffering after selling there maize! Minister of agriculture motivate the farmers too by increasing the maize price! Petersen bauze futi.

  3. Even KALABA AND JACOB WILL GET THAT MONEY THOUGH THEY WONT KICK THE BALL? I will start training tomorrow mubola mwaliba impiya bane

  4. @11 these guys are always paid in dollars.believe me even after winning it will be a different story.they promised them money during AFCON but how much have the seen yet the keep telling fake stories to the public even the trophy money still in story kwati tebaletelya kalusha stop been selfish…..

  5. Why NOT do it silently. Uganda is going to motivate their players with $15,000 each for the win afetr hearing this. The Buffon u should have done this quitely but as usual u want to be in the lime light. Since when did u hear England and Germany or Spain a Politician announcing the Perks?????

Now farmers will feel let down. Paya Farmer. Payilatu.

    • Only African governments offer these motivations. The European football Associations have enough money to offer their players. We should try running our football like an industry.

  6. IN UGANDA WE ARE ALSO ANXIOUSLY WAITING TO SHOW THE CHIPOLOPOLO THAT WE DO NOT JOKE HERE IN KAMPALA. WE ARE GOING TO WIN THE MATCH BY AVERY BIG MARGIN IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FO SOUTH AFRICA IN 2013.

    • Gerald at 14, A very big Margin eh?

We are coming to Uganda. Thanks for your advance warning. We will take it seriously, but can we talk on saturday after the game or on Sunday after digesting the game?

  7. Politicians like playing to the gallery to show that they are working. You dont tell your football opponents your game plan. This information should have been given to the concerned players.

  8. This is a useless development. How can you give a team $5,000 if u want them to qualify?? Give them $50,000 and you will see them play like robots

    • These guys don’t have enough incentive already with national pride, etc. etc? Now I only hope they lose so the money can be used  for real development….

Kambwili must also be locked up for 10 years because of quoting prices in dollars!

  9. MOTIVATION THEORIES INDICATE THAT MOTIVATION IS NOT ALL ABOUT MORE MONEY OR HEFT SALARIES (HEZBERG AND MASLOV ETC). GOVERNMENT NEED TO REALIZE THAT MOTIVATION BEGINS BY ONE SELF (SELF INITIATED). MONEY IS A POOR MOTIVATOR AND MAY NOT MOTIVATE ALL PLAYERS/PERSONS. $5000 MAY NOT BE MOTIVATION ENOUGH SHOULD ZAMBIA HAVE A CRUCIAL ENCOUNTER NEXT YEAR AS PLAYERS MAY NEED MORE THAN THIS. THE QUESTION IS, WILL GRZ AFFORD MOTIVATING PLAYERS USING MONEY?

    • Meaning? So wats yo suggestion? Give us the suggestion now! Ur still a student doing the Motivational Theory and this helps u memorise thoz theories te? I would rather gat more money and the rest remain constant. Lets support this team at a very crucial moment

  10. My friend Gerald; just wait and see. Zambia is Zambia.
Whatever record you have at home is ending this saturday. Don,t forget to come and give me Julliana. Bring her to Entebe as my flower girl. stay well.

  11. Uganda is planning to award each player $15,000 but they have not come up in the open and media to announce that. Is $5,000 bonus worth a press conference? Anyway, Kambwili is a person who likes the limelight and wants to be seen on front pages with irresponsible statements sometimes. Bring on the boys and let the game start. Ugandans are not distracted by Kambwili’s love for limelight.

  12. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s equally educative and amusing, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. The issue is something that too few folks are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I came across this in my hunt for something concerning this.
