Enterprises in Chingola

A Chinese national in Kitwe attempted to bribe police officers with K100 million in a desperate move to secure the release of his colleague, who was arrested for theft of copper.

Police had earlier impounded a truck laden with stolen copper and apprehended a Chinese national along with a Zambian.

The copper was diverted from Konkola Copper Mine (KCM) in Chingola, but alert anti-copper theft squad laid an ambush until they pounced on the truck and apprehended, Chien Guandian, 28, and Perryman Mwape, 27, on Monday evening.

Copperbelt police commissioner Mary Tembo confirmed the incident.

Ms Tembo said Mr Chien’s friend appeared on the scene and offered K100 million as a bribe so that the anti-copper squad could release his colleague.

“The anti-copper team yesterday (Monday) got a tip from members of the public who had seen a vehicle ferrying copper from Konkola Copper Mines open-pit to premises along Chingola-Chililabombwe Road,” Ms Tembo said.

She said police laid an ambush until evening when they saw a truck registration number ACL 3548 leave the premises.

Ms Tembo said the police trailed the truck up to a garage in Kitwe at plot number 3131, Government Road in the industrial area.

“It was at this point that the police entered the garage and confronted the Mr Chien and Mr Mwape,” Ms Tembo said.

She said upon searching the premises, they discovered several 25kg sacks of bags containing copper-ore while the other contraband was still on the truck.

“When Mr Chien was apprehended, his friend attempted to bribe officers with K50 million which he raised to K100 million on condition that they release his colleague,” she said.

KCM manager public relations Joy Sata also confirmed the impounding of the truck laden with copper-ore, which was parked at Kitwe Central Police Station.

“I am aware about the impounding of the truck, which is parked at Kitwe Central Police Station but I cannot tell whether the material belongs to KCM or not because we have not yet done an assessment,” Ms Sata said.

  1. Plse leave our Ch?nese brothers. No one has reported m?ss?ng Copper ore. Zamb?an govt does not have a m?ne. Pol?ce should stop putt?ng the?r nose where they dont belong.

    • Typical Mentality of certain Zedians!!! Is it any surprise we wallow in poverty though God has blessed us with these natural resources!!!
Hats off to the Vigilant patriots who tipped off authorities & the Copper Anti-Theft Squad!!!!

  2. Now Police should Motivate this officer eaither with a rank or some cash benefits. However small its better than eating money which u have to keep looking who is watching you. Corruption will only be eradicated if people are paid well, motivated and kept at piece( Whistle blowers) jst a mere thank you can help.

  3. EVERYONE KNOWS WHY THERE HAS BEEN COPPER THEFTS. IT IS THE CHINESE NATIONALS WHO EVENTUALLY BUY MELT AND MAKE DIFFERENT BARS AND EXPORT AS THOUGH ITS COMING FROM THEIR MINES WITH ZAMBIANS ASSISTING AND BEING PAID PEANUTS FOR THE JOB!

NATIONAL PRIDE AND COMMITMENT IS CARDINAL IN ARRESTING SUCH HORRIBLE ECONOMIC CRIMES.

THE CHINESE INSIST ON SEEING “BIG POLICE” NOT “SMALL POLICE”. IT IS THESE “BIG POLICE” THAT ARE LETTING DOWN THE NATION AND IT HAS TO STOP!

    • we nchushi we, waumfwa ati 100 million, wa amba no kusabaila.. last time i found people using 100 kwacha as shinda paper at Kapirimposhi..

  4. I thought cops in the copperbelt were clever and courageous after assuring us that they will keep on receiving bribes,What happened this time? you will regret throut your life for that stupid action.Winter Kabimba is busy receiving kickbacks and Golliath Geofrey Mwamba is busy fighting for tenders, how much you Cops do you have to reffuse K100,000,000.00? Stupidity.

  5. Who says corruption will end? This is 4yrs salary for a police officer. What can you expect?Who wants to be living in poverty?

  6. Its amazing to hear that!! Am sure a number of officers were involved and they thot mawanu. No one can deny that amount of money just to release a person. One will not loose anything neither is anyone going to be offended by receiving that huge amount.Obviously ba Mary tembo balilyumfwa ilyashi just b4 the bribe so it was difficulty for the junior officers.

  7. I cannot believe baffoons like #1,#2,5and 6 are supporting corruption blatantly. I dont know, maybe now the corrupt should be respected and worshiped in Zambia

  8. The Police refused the money cause they didnt trust themselves. The group had a lot of Police from other UNITS.

But the Chinese, these are the PIPO Sata promised to chase, now he is dining with them.

Chinese very corrupt. I think they make the Zambian Money, where the hell do they get all this Money?? K100m kwena…..

PF this is a test case, we dont want to hear the Chinese released and case squashed. U sang a lot about Chinese.

    • Sata was politicking period! Everybody does it…. Right now Obama is condeming Romaney for investing in Chainese companies, irony when its public knowledge that the USA is now heavily indebted to China, they suck their toes big time….. It cannot be denied who is ruling now in terms of finances, China! And FYI they are just a few in Zambia, oh my gosh come to Canada, Australia, England, Thailand etc..is there a place where they are not? the best way of dealing with it is to do things the right way even if we are poor! Kudos to those policemen!!!

  9. There is alot going on Copperbelt concerning stealing of copper ores. What has happened to secuirty we used to have during ZCCM time?

  10. Buju kukana ndalama strange, obviously the more reason y they refused its coz the case has attracted a lot of attention from the public, 100Mills nipatali ndafye mpolya yapa zed ikonda kaduda bad!

  11. The point of departure is as usual, excellent piece of work done by those policemen/women for being true partriots and, secondly we also sincerely thank those members of the public for reporting such suspicious activities.
This is clear message that Zambia will not fold its arms and sit idly for these dishonest blood thirst vapires to suck even the last drop of Zambian blood. Zambia will not give in to any pressure from any quarter, be it from an inconsiderate piece of dust or a billionnaire. Zambia is not mickey mouth and it is not piece of cake for dishonest investors or non paying tax individuals. Zambians remain undivided when it comes to the management of their natural resources. Any Zambian who works against National Interests should be treated as an enemy to the state. Viva HH, viv

  12. Such above corrupt activities are the core factors behind the exodus of Zambian knowledge workers who end up developing other countires in lieu of developing their motherland. Due to insufficient capital in Zambia, Zambia is unable to retain its highly skilled workers, it is also unable to buy better technology so as to add value to its unprocessed primary products and these simple thieves process these primary products into consumer in there home countries products and market them to us at 4 to 6 times the original value and then you say that non-African nations are highly developed and clean. To hell with being passive, and thanks to those policemen/women. If it means that we have to use corns to fight with, then come what may, we stand united. Viva HH, viva SATA.

  13. Yesterday it was a BEMBA thief ms CHISHIMBA,today its another BEMBA thief MWAPE.cursed clan of thieves indeed.

Never tolerate these thieves near your investment or property. They must just be reserved to sweep the streets.

  14. @17 BOOM & WHATEVER
In the third last sentence, it should be ‘into consumer products in their home countries’ not ‘into consumer in there home countries products’ sorry for that because it does not make any sense and the grammar is not correct.

  15. Welldone Anti Copper Theft Squad… way to go!
The ‘chinks’ think they can buy africans with ”peanuts” what is 100 million kwacha compared to the truck load of stolen copper ore? This is becoming a habit, i wonder what happened to the 22,340 tonnes of copper ore which was impounded this year in June on a similar circumstance!?

  16. The police were just waiting 4pipo 2forget a bit coz almost every1,was following the issue at tht time.the have already divided the money equaly ad am sure the chap is even on police bond now.when did our police became immune to corruption. The police were just waiting 4pipo 2forget a bit coz almost every1,was following the issue at tht time.the have already divided the money equaly ad am sure the chap is even on police bond now.when did our police became immune to corruption.

    Mikailo

  17. Well done police. Please continue working for mother Zambia. These useless guys think they are still in RB and sons government. Tell them to behave coz now its Sata’s time and he will finish them all.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  18. @Cety#18
I am not a Bemba at all and I do not share your garbbage, please obliterate such unwanted attitudes and confine yourself to the matter at hand. A Miss Chishimba is a victim of the racist British Criminal Justice System and the British Society at large which is responsible for events leading to up to the point whereby a Miss Chishimba found herself in twisted man made circumstances. The British stole alot of our resources and they obliterated our way of lives and emerged as the people with correct consciousnesses and yet on the hand you and I are viewed as thieves and criminals. Use your conscious and wash your empty shell, then breath-in reality into your lifeless self.

  19. Ala bana am so shocked kuno ku belguim! really just two nights ago was a Two hour documentary with the tittle as my name suggests. Am so shocked to hear taht zambia my country was once rich but now bulanda, if you see the images, the pipo on the copperbelt, the children in the documentary, ala kuti walila! wthats wrong with us africans? is it the colour of our skin, are we cursed or we are just not normal? Saviour Mwambwa really helped me with this doc. Shame on us all Zambians to allow such, i wish i could send it to everyone, then you all know wat am talking about, for now, am a sad zambian cos my country is a victim due to its own pipo, nice to hear bemba again, missed home though.

  20. THE GOVT MUST KICK OUT ALL CHINESE THAT ARE CAUGHT STEALING OR COMMITTI NG OTHER CRIES, THESE DOG EATERS MUST BE JAILED FOR 25 YEARS OR MORE AND MUST BE TREATED LIKE DOGS IN PRISON AND BE DPORTED TO CHINA UPON THEIR RELEASE STRAIGHT FROM PRISON TO BEIJING. BLOODY KABWALALAS STEALING ZAMBIAN MINERALS

  21. APA PENA NOMBA TWALAMWENAKO BANE ELYO TWALAISHIBA UKO TULEYA NGA FILI FYE BWINO NANGU MANGALO NA MAWALA FYE.

  22. Try steal diamonds in Botswana and you will know how serious they are with their main natural resourse. They guard their wealth jealously. On Zambia its daily theft of copper? Its something with our way of thinking. We would rather go with begging bowl on foreign countries than protect and utilize what we own! Shame upon us.

  23. This is just a smoke screen naimwe gullible Zedians, this copper will be sold by the same cops and they will get more than the K100 million offered -clever chaps- mwandini bakapokola, continue the good works and reap from your hard work after all ulima mwibala………….politicians are busy giving each other contracts and what is there for you with such a risk job?

  24. WHY IS JOY STILL BEING CALLED AS MS SATA.
Joy is no longer married to Noble Sata, they divorced a long time ago. I just wonder why she is still called Ms Sata. After the divorce , she was suppose to revert to her real names. Drop it Madam Joy!

  25. Amano mambulwa, imwe bakapokola when your president was saying more money in your pockets and fight corruption, what came in your mind when you were offered 100million meters?foolish pompozi, why didnt you get the money and arrest that kamuconcoli?ishuko lisafye onces.mwaponsola

  26. That cop is unusual but such is what we want in the country.National pride is very key if we have safeguard our resources from the greedy jaws of unpartiotic zambians.Keep it up

  27. @Bitterpill #33Your kind of argument has no valid premises to support the conclusion. Why did the police have to arrest the suspected Chinese thieves? Why did the the police invite the media to the crime scene, knowing that the media will publish their discovery? Why didn’t the police just take the bribe and look the other way? The police are well aware of the owners of the copper ore and the owners are aware that their missing copper ore is in the possession of the Zambian Police, given this picture it is not possible for the police to indulge in criminal acts in respect to this particular finding ‘stolen copper core’. Your allegations do not hold true, therefore you are telling us lies.

  28. Whatever the case corruption is bad and it destroys the nation. If it’s true the Police service should reward that police officer. For the ones who are supporting corruption wait until you’re faced with corrupt. A situation were you’re told to pay an employment officer before you’re employed, and you’ve walked from Avondale to Town. People lets not pretend…….

Why do you find it hard to construct a coherent short relevant, drivel free sentence
Your English is hard to read, and please refrain from using words that your have little meaning about.
You keep opening a can of worms for yourself

But then again, being married to a white-man, gives me a head start.

In short your sentences are often irrelevant and hard to read.

    Thanks

    • It is clear that being married to a white man is your biggest achivement, ooooh lets all bow down to the ‘ Mrs white man.’ I think you should also check your relevance in what you say.

  30. @Loverchibs #36 How do you expect these under resourced, overworked, low paid policemen/women to archieve what the constitution requires them to execute yet even their numbers are not equivalent to the entire population of criminals? Notice that some of these criminals are well resourced and organised more than these policemen/women, give them credit and certainly they are being reforced in a positive way by us the masses. Do not pull them down, be proud of that policeman/woman who has made a big difference in any one person’s life. You, the Zambia Police Service, are pushing the Zambian image right on top.

  31. MOST OF THE MINERALS MINED IN ZAMBIA ARE NOT ACCOUNTED FOR IN TERMS OF REVENUE (TAX). MOST OF IT IS LEAKED (CHANNELED) TO SUCH PEOPLE WHO EXPORTED IT IN ORDER TO HIDE THE TRUE PICTURE OF MINERALS MINED BY THE BIG COMPANIES IN ORDER TO AVOID PAYING TAX. SEAL THESE LOOPHOLES.

  32. @Mushota#40
Well to come my world. Lets explore ourselves and our otherselves, this is academic english and the essence is to master the art of ambiguity. If my momery serves well you made mention that your of educational archievement falls in the realm of say anything between master’s level and a PHD. The self which is you and the otherself is external to your innerself are not constructed from within the same realm of thinking and it follows that whatever the outside world throws at you is not what impacts positively. Your husband has no central role in academic english. This is not grade 12 stuff or undergraduate work. Please continue.I want to put you in your world and I’m enjoying your analysis based on mediocre knowledge. BOOM, the only one

  33. @Mushota#40 Notice that english is what we construct which stands as that which represents our symbols, signals, for instance I deliberately constructed the word memory as momery so as to instil an understanding that everything we utter is socially constructed. ‘Well to come to my world’, this particular phrase to a person like you, it might mean absolutely nothing but garbbage. Well, according to philosophy at an advanced level, it is certainly a topic a doctrate student can write as his/her a doctrate dissertation. Explore that topic and go to Offord University Library.

  34. Rule of law should apply lets get zambia back on truck,in china you cant misbehave because what they will do to you is clear, not this human right nonsense that foreighners keep abusing,# 18 lets grow up and graduate from tribal blogging.

  35. @Mushota #40
Analyse everything about the above happenings and point out to me what is that constitues anything defined as unmeaningful. Following from what constuituted this happening, if you like, my happenings automatically despite time distanciation impact on your particular happenings there in your cold boring Scotland. It is against these mediocre approaches that we see it fit to reconstruct your understanding about anything that you deem to be African as unnecessary and insignificant. Mushota, you are a total pack of insignificant under educated lost African man/woman. Go to hell.

  36. That’s all you get from chinese infesters, crime: in Angola it’s diamonds they are stealing, in Ghana, its gold, in Zambia, its copper, ivory and rhino horns. The list is endless across Africa and the world.

  37. Anyway good action ba police but what is amazing me is Ba police are being corrupted with 10 000 pa ma road blocks but they refused this money. The point here is they didn’t trust themselves!!!!!!

  38. @Mushota#40,
How do you define your racist significant other? Do you define him/her as socially constructed or do you accept the self-assumed internalisation that he/she is a product of unequal power relationship in a predominantly white man’s land. Does he assume that you accepted your role as a product of forced identity. How do reflect your position following your defeat in that you accepted that which your masters assign to you as a newly constructed African in a non-existant condition. The condition which you occupy is changeable instanteneously as and when your masters see it fit depending on which side of the bed they wake up from. You are reside in no one’s image and you deviated away from your true self a long time ago in history. Go to hell.

    • Ala mulabeko uyo, she wont pick up anything from what you have said, so shes busy in her own understanding trying to comeup with something silly and comic, i doubt if it is actually a black zambian, maybe some white dude who has lived in zed trying jokes on all of us, and that foto? i guess the owner has no idea it has been uploaded. chipuba namba one!

  39. which ever way the police acted well what ever compelled them we prey we have more to avoid bribes, systems start from there ,congratulation

  40. @Mushota#40 Your image which resides in several otherselves is not permanently lost, however, with your level of below standards approach, you risky losing your innerself because several processes have impacted upon your true identity negatively. You lost yourself in the middle of abuse and self imposed character crafted out of forced identity from your masters. Rescue youself from that childish assumption that you are next to god, just because those whites re-inforce your behaviour after scrubing their floors and kitchen boards. Look for another African so that you can remove your bad breath. You are a lost soul.

  41. Indeed the police are always 2 steps behind. when are they going to get rich? Who doesnt steal? kabimba is doing it, big mala is doing iteven CNP is getting richer and richer

  42. Well done Zambia Police, especially anti-copper theft squad! The team that worked this case are true patriots. All the above negative comments insinuating the police should have acted corruptly for their own benefit are posted by morally bankrupt cowards. By the way, # 40 Mushota, you totally deserve all the rage from BOOM & WHATEVER! Mushota, you always sound needy and pyschotic. You are a lady lacking your own self confidence & esteem and only see your self as an appendage to Nick, whoever & whatever he is! Girl get a life, your grammar is poor and your reasoning is usually narrow! Your fiances verbal, physical, and emotional abuse have
impacted you so much that you cannot change to break away from any form of inferiority. MUSHOTA GROW UP!

  43. Thanks Mushota some pipo like BOOM & WHATEVER get lost in their own jargon. The truth is these cops are getting a better cut somewhere down the copper sale line. Continue believing in what you see paraded- it for gullible pipo’s consumption.

  44. #18 You must be some one from space and our tribe is very clean and you are honest. Many thanks for your tribal sentiments. Remember we are still ruling Zambia and we will continual, if you like go and hang.

  45. These are the pipo vasco da gama sata is dining with.go to china and steal,i can assure you,you will be sentence to death with immediate effect as sata would say

  46. @Mushota#40
Where are you? You are a little bitch hiding somewhere underneath your masters’ tables. Come on, show your little lost soul through your unthought about rantings. I have not started unpacking my rhetorics and rearranging your multiple selves. When I’m done with you, you will be able to choose the original unassigned identity for your true innerself. You better trust me on that because this thesis is new a erra in this state in which you are as blank as a new born baby. We must give you a new start in your life not those prescriptions from those ugly Scotish men. What is good about Scotland anyway?

  47. @Bitterpill#57@Mushota#40
Both of you or anyone who shares your self-opinionated ideas, are not what any person of fair moral values would want to have anything to do with you. You cannot develop yourselves beyond the level of insanity and you are enjoying your prudential thoughts. When someone does not see things in the manners which do not mirror your less than brilliant thoughts, then you resort to the labelling theory. Who cares anyway? I do not give it a damn because I do not scrub anyone’s ‘back’ or whiteman’s floors. So what, if I use academic jargons because I went to school for over18 years. You must sort yourselves out before you jump because I will tell you not to jump.

  48. @Bitterpill#57@Mushota#40
Which one of you knows the difference between right and wrong ? None of you two souls has an idea of what emanates from either right or wrong. Flowing from that, it is a situation in which Mushota initiates what is commonly defined as ‘excitement’ in which the doer is unware that her/his condition is open to other imprecise interpretations which when subjected to close scrutiny, several otherselves bring to the surface, a condition called idiocy. Based on the commonly defined condition, another lost soul with pre-conceived ideas or differences in opinions with the common targeted person, then the latter (Bitterpill) will automaticall support anything Mushota vomits. Thus, approving idiocy from Mushota as the preferred topic.

  49. @Mushota#40
You must come down to South Africa and choose a very handsome educated rich man. Yes, for sure we even have several Zambians of progressive minds working in our top universities. When you look around there, you think Scotland is heaven on earth, come on, stop fooling yourself. I know that country, greyish bad weather, old ugly buildings, John Walker Scotish Whisky

  50. @Mushota#40 Scotland has no good beaches but one can only find rocky uneven beaches. Most Scotish men are less than developed and spend most their time drinking those spirits and rearing flocks of sheep in mountains known as Scotland highlands. You must ask your abuser which part of Scotish village he comes from. Come to S.Africa I will show you my rural palace, a town in a middle of a jungle and definitely you will see my town house. We have everything one can dream of right here in S. Africa. I can fly to almost any place on earth without worshiping a whiteman. Why worship someone who looks down on me. He/she can go to hell for I care.
