Teenage female boxing prospect Catharine Phiri takes a deep plunge when she fights Nathalie Forget of Canada in a bantamweight title fight at Government Complex on Saturday in Lusaka.
It is hard to believe that at 19 and armed with just four professional fights, the Phiri camp have decided take a big gamble to dive into the deep end on this one.
Phiri has one knockout with the rest decisions from four fights since making her debut in May last year against Esther Chalwe whom she beat on split points.
It will certainly be a battle of ages against Forget who is almost 20 years Phiri’s senior at 38.
Forget is a late comer to boxing with just seven fights to her name with four wins and three defeats as she prepares for her first fight outside North America.
She arrives in Zambia on the back of a unanimous decision loss to Rosie Thomas this past May.
“I don’t feel old. My physical abilities will not fail me,” Forget said.
“I am in good shape, it’s going to be a good fight and I am confident of victory.
“I won’t be intimidated by the crowd, although I don’t know Catharine well and I have never seen her fight.”
Forget should also prove an interest opponent to Phiri in this 10 round contest that will test the home girl against the Canadian who has never been knocked out.
