Get Involved Zambia Executive Director Fr. Frank Bwalya has assured that his appointment to the Board of ZESCO will not comprise his stance on national issues.
Fr. Bwalya was this week appointed to sit on the ZESCO Board along with some known PF cadres such as former Luangeni MP Angela Chifire.
But Mr. Bwalya said in an interview that he will not shy away from criticizing the PF government whenever it made policy mistakes.
He said he will go to ZESCO to work towards helping the power utility improve service delivery.
“I want to assure the people that Fr. Bwalya will never be compromised. I will continue speaking for the voiceless with or without this appointment,” Fr. Bwalya said.
The Catholic Priest said his appointment to the ZESCO should be viewed in the context of service to the nation and not as a token of appreciation for his role in ushering the PF into government.
please explain to some us who are non catholic that ritual u performed on cb that live chicken u pulled the neck and spraying of blood
What criteria is used to appoint Board members. ? Please some one correct me if I am wrong , this little rat is no engineer . He has made a name the last couple of years making noise ! Does this qualify him to such an important company to our nation ??? We are paying the price of having a constable grade seven in state house. What a joke !!
If it is basing on his credentials he qualifies,,,remember he was MIZA President,,,based on performance,,,,I don’t know,,,,its a good question on what criteria? Never make a judgment
What’s MIZA expand such unknown organizations so that we evaluate his credibility.
That was my question too. What’s the criteria indeed?
:((:((:(( what a good mistake he has done accepting the appointment.how can you dinne with the people you say you never promote when traveled with them acrose zambia.you have just come out now in open kayi now we know ni dont kudabbwa.bravo father frank
so this bustard has been quietly lobbying a job from Micheal satana? awe sure!
Please, the father is not a bastard. He has parents and was legitimately born. Only his disowned child in Ndola is a bastard!
Fr. Frank Bwalya has nothing of substance to offer on national issues. In spite of the fact that Bwalya cannot connect a plug to his pressing-iron he is being rewarded for his political nonsence he contributed in Zambia through the PF party machinery. On such moral issues, it is for the Catholic Church to explain their religious role in Zambia.
is this con man still a priest, he should decide on which side he wants to be either at the puppet or dinning with thieves not both. how is he going to save the Nation at Zesco, what knowledge does he have to bring sanity to Zesco apart from making unnecessary noise and flashing red cards.i cant believe the depth of shallowness Mr Sata is trying to exhibit to the Nation, this man is the one whose bitter he wants to show off his newly found drunken love for power.
Thats y load shedding tayakapwe, pipo who don’t understand a shred about electricity are being appointed to run the firm. What a shame
The MD of ZESCO understands electricity and has failed to stop or reduce load shedding. We pay more for electricity as Zambian citizens whiles multinational mining companies pay less. Engineer Accountants, Economists and HH know this and have accepted it as a normal.
wrong move
we are watching this space, Mr.bwalya frank
Whats the minimum qualification for one to be appointed to a board of directors. What qualification does Fr Bwalya have, someone please enlighten me?
My friend cathoric Fathers are very educated above the minimum qualification of most average jobs and appointments.I dont think you can disqualify him on that, may other reasons may work.
Tribal appointments
The Catholic Church should learn to choose the best people to lead the masses. i sometimes wonder whether the catholic church is genuine considering the calibre of people such as this cadre FR Bwalya. He doesn’t inspire me in any way religiously because to me he looks like a jeraboo i wouldn’t even trust him with kids. any way the catholic church are the same romans who killed Jesus.
It’s not Romans who killed Jesus!
they deliberately asked the masses whom they wanted between jesus and the thief knowing fully well that they would choose the thief.what are you saying read than be told by preists.
Why talk about an issue you are so blank on.Was Jesus killed by Romans? The Roman empire and the Catholic Church are too different institutions, learn to read history. Some of the best Universities in the world were established by the Catholic Church. So that poor people like you could have cobwebs removed from your heads.
Thanks guys for teaching this stupid zambian church history. Who told him Romans killed Jesus. Are u Jehovah’s witness?
Educate me some more. @2.4 what do JWs teach about who killed Jesus?
@12.5 I meant 12.4.
The appointment will not comprise his stance? So he will not necessarily be moving along with the ZESCO Board? Why are you appointing someone who has already declared war on his appointment?
It is like appointing a primary school teacher of Shang’ombo to the UN Committee on Syria.
Why you think a primary school teacher can’t do a better job at UN?
Typical failures who can’t fathom depth indeed. Wishful thinkers who will never be anything.
Whats the minimum qualification necessary to be appointed to a board? The way Zambia is being run leaves much to be desired.Let important institutions like ZESCO be run by qualified people.Perhaps its time to privatise ZESCO so its answerable to share holders and not to state house
it hurts to read this because such a company should only be left to engineers
Too much load-shedding, high operational costs, and we still need engineers on Board????? Lets try him. I don’t trust Zambian Engineers especially from UNZA, Dirty Ridgeway Campus, surely you do not need a microscope to see overgrown glass.
Awe sure.
The guy deserves the appointment. He has a masters degree in maths for Gods sake.Congrats fathers and shame your haters.
And what business management experience does he have? A masters in Maths is not enough to give one the know how of corporate governance…the best they should have done is give him a job in what he is qualified in…board member my foot!
Ba Dojo the man has a lot of experience when it comes serving on boards. He was a board member at Misa Zambia.A chairperson for that matter.
Ba Mo taim fya ma politics chabe…you can have a chairman in whatever board for whatever number of years as long as political power is there…my question to you is what value was created during his time?? Mathematics is a different animal from administration…ask yourself ‘why boards’ and if the answer is still maths then cry my beloved country…
Good question.I am happy that you have talked about administration. He actually has a very good administration background. He was station manager at radio ichengelo in the copperbelt. So i bet that puts your fears to rest.Mind you according to statistics the most successful companies in the world are run by people who didnt see much of the university auditorium(University drop-outs).
Station manager, University dropouts…i rest my case.
Lol…it is not everything a person learns in class.Ask bill gates
this is one person debating himself… interesting madness.
The flag shouldnt confuse you my brother.Use a computer geek to verify for you that we are in different cities but same country.By the way i will be happy if you learnt how to respect people you don`t know. Please try to do that even though it might not be in your nature.Have a lovely weekend.
you, too.
I always wonder why so-called scientists & Engineers, Lecturers has no “heart” and “balls” to push such companies as ZESCO or Road Development Agency. Why they never make it to board members or directorship, in stead the Bus conductor Willie Nsanda & Chicken slaughter Fr. Bwalya get directorship.
How do you rate RDA????? good or bad. There are bunch of graduates their .
Do these Board members get a salary? I don’t get anything except coffee at the NGO I sit in its board. Just read a bunch of papers for nothing.
The norm is that they get a sitting allowance for say a meeting (and other benefits)…which is quite handsome, so depending on how many times they meet…etc..
You shouldn’t forget that this is not the first time the father is sitting on a board. He did the same at MISA Zambia where he served as chairperson for broadcasting.
Misplacement of education…now you shouldnt wonder why these institutes loss money, are inefficient, incompetent, etc…you have wrong career chaps running them….
To me it is.That position at Zesco requires(unwritten rule) a person with a atleast some engineering background and am sure you can agree with me that engineering and maths are pages of the same paper. He deserves it.
And that is why Zesco hasnt covered the whole of Zambia…because we have had wrong fellows for decades running a business…Zesco is a business, with all the potential that Zambia has, from our falls and natural sunlight throughout the year, every Zambian today would have been benefitting from this firm…but we run, have been running Zesco as a political ntemba…you know exactly what am talking about…the even today we have continued…get economists, administrators (not Kalu or Bwalya) who totally understand business governance and we might just have a chance to see electricity in our land…
His organization clearly states : GET INVOLVED ZAMBIA in the plunder of national resources.
He is a voice for his voiceless stomach
Appointment of board members to key parastatal companies is better done by parliament via a technical committee that looks at senior qualified citizens who have corporate experience. This will stop this tribalism perception Sata carries with most of his appointments. Zambia needs strong institutions and procedures and not individuals.
Best response, thank you for your insight.
This chap has no business sitting on the Zesco board, he should have stayed a good priest and tended to his flock, but he has failed even at his calling! Get Involved Zambia is as good as dead.
#14. 1 Reply Nostradamus, a primary school teacher trained only to teach children has no qualifications and experience (no matter how intelligent he/she is) necessary to sit on UN committee on Syria. He/she needs further qualifications in: Int’l Policy, War/Conflict management, Int’l Relations, etc.
Fr. Bwalya has a philosophical, theological, journalism background. He has little or no corporate governance and no added advantage of electric power background ( I stand to be corrected).
Do you know the Role of board members Sir?
Answer the question??????????????
Your father who is a carpenter is put as chairman of your PTA in school, does he have a teaching experience? Wechipuba weee
Why do we Zambians run to “qualified” and “experience” when we can see how the “qualified” have run down companies entrusted to them. Look at entrepreneurs in successful economies; the majority are not professionals in their field of success; they have DISCIPLINE, PASSION, PURPOSE and DILIGENCE. Having a qualification is not itself a guarantee that you will run an entity successfully!!! Much less not on a BOARD!!!!
I agree with you on those who are qualified on papers.
#27 Kalok, I totally agree with you. Zesco at one time had Dr. Lemba Nyirenda, who last one few months. And this a doctor in Electrical Engineering. Every one at Zesco will tell you that he was the worst MD, while Mwansa without Phd performed far better. You dont need to be an Engineer to be on board of Zesco.
Sir God does not elevate any one based on academic kindly ask for forginess from the Lord. You will reap in due time.Leadership is from above that is why we will give an account to the Lord how we looked after God’s resourses.King David in the Bible was a shepherd when the Lord made him King. How many graduates are i Govt today what value are they adding to our nation zero.We need wise leaders in this depreve and wicked generation.May the Lord bless you.As for me i value and respect every leader.
i support the appointment no matter what because most of us Zambian are just good at talking. Most of you people are cowards you think so shallow and only know how to hide and talking on medias and when someone talk and act then get appointed you start criticizing.where were you when he was there getting famous around Zambia.i suppose you were hiding with your so called qualifications.they say seek and you shall find and you leap what you sown,so just leave the Father alone to enjoy hardworking and continue hiding your qualifications closets. i am sure this man will fight for us over ZESCs bad behavior of frequent Roadsheding even when there is an important event we need to watch on ZNBC.
@Defimz, you are right, there is so much lambasting of appointments here without even knowing the background of the appointee. Education is important in every society and there are many ways of getting educated, having a PHD, Masters, is nothing if it is ya pamulomo fye. Most of us Zambians once you think you have your Masters or whatever it is, you extract yourself from the spirit of Serving and volunteering, you don’t want to get your hands dirty.. All you want is somebody to acknowledge you that you have a Masters, but Masters or PHD, without works, is like faith without works…. And now everybody has Masters and PHD, so its nothing to write home about.
#26.1 reply Correction, here we are talking about Board Members at ZESCO not roles of Board members on any given Board. So check here to read about roles of Board members at ZESCO: http://www.oecd.org/daf/corporateaffairs/corporategovernanceofstate-ownedenterprises/44200028.pdf
By accepting the appointment, he has already compromised his position. You cannot bite the hand that feeds you. The acceptance just shows a serious lack of principle on his part because believe you me he will not be able offer proper checks and balances from inside.
A voice for the voiceless in the ZESCO board room, cut the cr*p and get serious.
Indeed zesco under mmd was better off than under pf. what value will the rejected priest add to zesco? this is the worst board ever at zesco. CNP is digging his grave quicker than other presidents did.
Because you were chewing in MMD, now you no longer chew. Do not convince us on flimsy grounds. The fact that you do not partake in raping tax payers money is not reason enough to label an elected grz bad.
MAN of God is a dog now, wagging tail for food. Green card, hahahahaha
this is the worst of worst goverment we had ever had since independence………!
What criteria did you use to assess it?????????????
@Shaka, #30, Agreed. My only hope on this one is that he will act “unZambian” for a change and not fear the sack. The reason we have such shoddy performances is that people push ego and fear ahead of principle and duty… by the way, LusakaTimes quotes him as COMPRISING… it is so hard to decide what these reports are on about some times…
What does this man bring to the table apart from confusion? This is just to keep him quiet and preoccupied…if Sata wanted this man’s valuable contribution then why not put him on the ZNBC board…if this man had an shed of integrity he would have turned down the position BUT hey this is Zambia; this is the selfsame reason i don’t follow an faiths or look up to any of these religious people…only gullible people follow them.
Wake up.
*any shred of integrity
*any of these faiths
*any shed of integrity
*any of these faiths
I think he will add value to the ZESCO board bringing out the transformation of the entity to generate and distribute cheaper form of energy for ALL. A priest is not a fool or cabbage not to deserve such a role in national development.
“COMPROMISE” is the correct spelling.
Father Bwalya has always being a performer. He is probably one of the few people who are able to call a spade a spade and nshima as nshima.I am yet to meet a more fearless person compared to this man.He has never compromised when it comes to what he believes in.Twalumba Kapati
I would not be surprised if this priest has children and women. There is just something ulterior about him. To me, this man is not different from Mmembe and Nchito. I think integrity is hard to come by in Zambia.
Checkmate\:d/
#27 Kalok, I totally agree with you. Zesco at one time had Dr. Lemba Nyirenda, who last one few months. And this a doctor in Electrical Engineering. Every one at Zesco will tell you that he was the worst MD, while Mwansa without Phd performed far better. You dont need to be an Engineer to be on board of Zesco.
Don’t talk too much some of you Father Bwalya is Beng. 10 in electrical engineering from Matero University. Anyway that aside lets not judge the book by its flowery cover but lets see if he can deliver. Oh sorry he may not deliver because he is not the board chairperson. It’s just a matter of sitting there and relaxing while load shedding still flourishes. Don’t kubeba for real! Let CNP continue scratching people’s backs. It’s payback time and it has got a limit I suppose. Let me end here!
Zambians need to change from thinking that only engineer’s can manage an entities like Zesco. Someone with a good business mind would be able to do a better job because engineers tend to have tunnel vision and are good at micro instead of macro management. It is all to do with the way they are trained. That is why companies like ZCCM never opened up any new mines and yet Western Province has seen new mines being opened. The copper was there all along.
BS! This lunatic masquerading as a priest got the job on two qualifications
#1 He opposed Rupiya Banda
#2 He is Bemba!
I just got in have i missed much??
it is not easy for people to accept such untested people and especially that he made so much noise during elections which only a few well learnt appreciated, wished he he was taken to ZNBC BEING FROM THE MEDIA ,mr president please consult widely.
Father Bwalya bakubika sausage mu kanwa!
@kalok#27 you’ve jst hit the nail on the head.African intelecuals are a let down.If iam wrong can sum1 show me a big succeful company that is run by indegenous learned zambian’s?The appointement of Father bwalya is mo do 2 with the appeasement policy that the PF GRZ has embarked on.I dont blame any1 but i blame the system. If we had credible institutions 2 appoint derseving pipo in these positions,we cld’ve bin avoiding all this dictatorial tendece .Suffice 2 say this, one Father Frank Bwalya is a straight and courages person.
At times you gugs from Zambia the so called you make me sad at the way you criticise issues.Appointments in these boards I think we don’t need professionals or the so called graduates,as a country we have once been failed by them.To be a board member we don’t literally need professional qualifications no ubo bu welewele….Shi Change congratulations it is a mile stone.Let the so called opposition parties continue showing their uselessness PF aleteka tata.
You don’t need a professional in the same field to be appointed in a board, for God’s sake. For those who went to expensive primary and secondary schools, those who were board members weren’t teachers. The same with PTA members in yo cheap schools.
Father Bwalya has degrees in: philosophy, sacred theology and journalism. He qualifies to advise.
YABA
Comprise or COMPROMISE?
Spelling is not the strong suit of many here, they chose to condemn with wrong punctuation, no insight, insults and general lack of decorum.
there is no board in this world on which a catholic priest can fail to sit. trust me on this one!
This is quite unbecoming.
One of the biggest mistakes people make when buying blood pressure monitors is buying the wrong instrument. That’s why a lot of people get frustrated and annoyed in just a matter of weeks of use.
