The Non-Governmental Organization Coordination Council (NGOCC) says it is shocked by the appointment of FDD leader Edith Nawakwi by President Michael Sata to oversee the bio-fuel investment project in the country.

NGOCC board Chairperson Beatrice Grillo says Ms. Nawakwi owes the women movement a comprehensive explanation on her position on the presidential appointment.

Mrs. Grillo says the women movement is aware of the fact that there is nothing wrong with the opposition working closely with the government of the day but states that what is of major concern with regards this appointment is the level at which these politicians work together.

Speaking to QFM News in an interview, Mrs. Grillo adds that appointments are welcome as long as they do not affect the ability of the opposition to provide the necessary checks and balances to government.

She states that Ms. Nawakwi’s appointment will definitely put her in a very awkward position seeing that she is the top leader of a political party who is expected to provide leadership to the party.

Mrs. Grillo says the women movement is looking forward to having a discussion with the FDD leader to really get a clear understanding of the matter.

The NGOCC board chairperson states that if the FDD leader has truly aligned herself to the ruling Patriotic Front, it will be a blow to the women movement, which she says is trying to advocate for women participation in politics.

  1. Sata has proved to be faithful where rewarding Bootlickers is concerned. The only problem is these Bootlickers are usually grossly under qualified and placed in very high positions. Nawakwi congratulates i hope you will shut your useless Big mouth and spare us from your venting now that you have a Job.

  2. You have the centre, centre right and centre left. Then you have the far right and the far left. Aside from that, you then have conservatives and liberals on either divide. The first question to ask is where our political parties lean. It is indeed confusing sometimes when a party flip flops from an extreme left to a moderate right and vice versa… Ms Nawakwi, could you explain to us (and NGOCC) what all this is about?

  3. NGOCC never stepped a foot or even supported Nawakwi when she had no job but only a party leader, now she has been appointed and they are quick to voice out. Stop the crab mentality. Prove your support for women and back Nawakwi’s appointment if anything.

  4. NGOCC should just shut up because they do not seem to know what they are talking about. Just recently Nawakwi was in the press attacking other opposition Leaders just to get recognition from Sata. When HH tried to defend himself against Nawakwi’s insults and asked her to go back to the kitchen, the Women movement with their usual mob thinking went all out to attack him. They did not use their brains to analyse what Nawakwi was up to.

Now that Nawakwi has got what she wanted NGOCC is coming back to convince us that she is a wrong woman, who is going to to believe you Grillo? FDD whether you like it or not is just on paper, Nawaki is a political flop and she should just go back to what she knows best, husband grabbing.

  5. For all who card to know, Catherine Namugala is more of a husband grabber than Nawakwkwi. She grabbed her elder sisters late husband to become Mrs Namugala. Contact me for further details

    • Even when most of you bloggers laugh at LT’s sentence construction, one can not really read your sentences but just make sense out of it. Can you make it clear as to who died, is it Namugala’s sister or Namungala’s brother in law who married her later as a ghost. I like Namugala, she is beautiful….

  6. Dont forget that crocodiles and hippos are defferent but have one thing in common…they all stay in the waters. what can keep human beings who stay in the same country to do things together ?

  7. If Obama can work with McCain for the benefit of the country I don’t see why Sata can’t work with the opposition. Its not a competition, it about working together to achieve development for the good of Zambia

  8. Madam Grillo, can’t you see that this might be a ladder to a woman president. Is it not what you women have always wanted.

  9. Leave Nawakwi alone! She is a true nationalist who believes in national development! Opposing for the sake of oppossing will not develop our country!!!!!!

  10. and you NGOCC what are you saying please? you too are in employment, have you ever voted for Edith in all the elections she stood.just shut up ba makaka, children are going hungry busy conducting workshops that never RESULT IN ANYTHING,
IN 2003 I WAS ACCEPTED TO TO MY DEGREE AT BOSTON UNIVERSITY,I APPROACHED YOU FOR SOME ASSISTANCE,WHAT WAS YOUR RESPONSE.MWE MBWA MWE.

  11. she has no morals..what do you expect…just help mrs.hamasaka and Mrs Chonya who are fired ..what a woman movement!!

  12. Zambia is one democracy where the sole role of the opposition is to do just that “oppose” everything. the opposition should never see eye-to-eye or agree with the government of the day at all cost…let alone even work together. forget national development opposition is all about “checks and balances” they come first. If we genuinely interested in national development if the policy or project is good for Zambians then there is nothing wrong with opposition working with government. So is an opposition member being appointment to GRZ office if they are capable of adding value to GRZ and hence help make Zambia a better place…why condemn condemn for 5years before next elections instead of being part of the solution now if given an opportunity to serve. NGOCC challenge Nawakwi to deliver!

  13. NGOCC please spare Nawakwi your venom, when she was jobless being insulted by HH you never came to her rescue, so what explanation do you want from her? She probably owes an explanation to the defunct FDD party not any other organization or individual. Stop the nonsense and just do your work period. These same groups of women are too selfish and they can never give support to their fellow women, even during elections they never support Nawakwi and they want an explanation, oh please you do not own her and you better shut up twakomba!

  14. Was the appointment official or jst verbal? Is she gona b paid some allowances 4 it or its 4 mahala?I never so her being sworn in or rather seeing her sighning a contract.I think it is one of those off the cuff remarks.

  15. NAWAKWI IS WELL EDUCATED AND UNDERSTANDS ENERGY ISSUES WELL BECAUSE SHE HAS A DEGREE IN THE SAME FIELD. SHE HAS ADVISED THE MINISTRY OF ENERGY BEFORE SO LEKENI UKUBOSA BA NGOCC!

  16. I personally have no beef with it, if she can do the job perfect and bring development to my country why not, the problem with some of you chaps is that, opposition means opposing for as long as it takes even if something makes sense, and you are full of envy and utulijo, why dont you for once come together and support that which benefits the nation regardless who is involved? It kicks me so hard when shallow minded people open their mouths and waste breath in this manner. Did she sign a pact to which she would renounce serving the nation in the name of opposition? Waoh! am so stunned to even read this, what are you exactly interested in? Nawakwi or the development of Zambia? Move aside and let people work. I wouldnt careless if she were chosen president of Zambia and PF if she delivered!

    • OH and by the way? Iam a WOMAN too, so dont say all women favour your opnion because i dont! There it is point blank, go Nawakwi, develop zambia.

  17. The sad thing about our country is the continued bickering and pettiness that goes on. There really is nothing wrong with the appointment and Nawakwi does not owe anyone an expaination. When will we learn to work as a nation? Zambia is for everyone. Anyone chosen to do national duties should be proud and we also need to give them praise. Lets have positive criticism, lets build the nation..lets talk about sensible things, too much mediocrity…

  18. NGOCC, those sounds like sour grapes, you merely jelous. You never supported Nawakwi, how may MPs did you NGOCC support to go to Parliament through your ticket? Nawakwi is Graduate and she is an expert in Energy sectors, at the same time she needs to respond to the current needs for the country to engage those with experties to come forward to assist. Yes she is a politician but at the end of the day Politician needs food on the table.. do not eat politics, the need funds to survive, just like you NGOCC you looby for funds but majoritiy lands in your pockets through those fake and face- value workshops which end up on reports in folders piling year in year out. I agree with # 8,9, 10 and 13. So NDGOCC just zippi it no one is accountable to you after all.

  19. She might as well join PF coz FDD is a non starter and wat has bin the biggest achievement by NGOCC since its conception?

  20. People have very short memories!! Nawakwi may be educated, BUT SHE WAS INVOLVED IN DEALS THAT LOST THE COUNTRY HUGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY & she got away scot-free _ WE DON’T NEED THIEVES NEAR ANY GOVT COFFERS!! There are many technocrats in govt & civil service who would serve this country better!!!!!

    • Can you provide us with evidence that three consecutive governments didn’t find. Don’t just hate her because she has more brains than you. She’s a zambian first and a very intellectual woman who will add value to the country’s development.

  21. Nawakwi doesn’t owe anyone an explanation as shes a one man or woman show. As long as she got a meal on a table and her big belly is full with a grabbed man on her side then that’s the finish line or her full stop.

  22. when ZWD said nawakwi would be given a jopb pipo thought it was bitterness. We read the article on cadre politics and this is what is happening. President sata saw Nawakwi as a cadre and offered a job to increase his influence while helping a tribe mate. that is all there to this appointment. PF will not manage to put money in our pocket because everyday they are expanding govt with one appointment or another.

  23. How many votes did Nawaki get in the last elections?Almost zero! She can go anywhere and will never have any bearing on politics in Zed.As for cnp what do you mean that some grabbed her sisters late husband to become Mrs Namugala? How do you grab a dead man?GOD SAVE US.

  24. Has she also beem given a position of special duties? Any way, why bother her? She has it and men, after Independence celebrations, she triggered the trick. I wonder what uncle mBULAHA is thinking

  25. Just shut up you NGOCC.A disappointment to women when it is a proven fact that you very women don`t even vote for her ? Give the lady some space.

  26. Useless NGOCC only there to syphon donor funds; when defenceless women are being victimised they are no where to be seen. You mor.ons also owe Iris an explanation!

  27. Heey you women for change what is your problem? Your friend Nawakwi can’t be president of Zambia however hard she works. Don’t force her to go on like a headless chicken while she knows well that she has no support even from you who is talking the loudest. Women are the majority in Zambia, why have they not voted for Nawakwi. Please leave her alone to enjoy life.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  28. It is plain and clear that she can’t make it to Presidency riding on FDD. Both Sata and herself must have understood this reality. She is however intelligent and still useful. Whatever is legally possible to bring her into limelight is OK. I wouldn’t mind having her as President. The women should be supportive of one another, intelligently and on merit though.

  29. That is the way to go! Get and utilize expertise where ever it islaying. Government is too serious a business to be handled by the political party in power only. Good ba presido ……….and thanks Nawakwi for accepting, provided the appointment is true. You will make a good team with, Charlotte Scott, Dr. Kaseba, Lewanika, Luo, Nawakwi etc. Go for it little old girls ……….

  30. That’s it! Zambia has to wait another 200 years to have a woman Presidential candidate worth her salt. That’s why the Grillo woman together with her toothless NGOCC are concerned, and rightly so. Nawakwi has been rendered moribund by President Sata and is now fit to be thrown into the dustbin of “has been a politician”, to be forgotten as a leader of an opposition party. It’s high time FDD charted its way forward, otherwise, with Nawakwi at the helm, FDD is as dead and buried as Cosmo Mumba’s party whatever it’s called.

  31. Here you have it the biggest danger to women empowerment in Zambia is women themselves; when you weigh the pros and cons of this appointment we (Zambians) stand out to benefit more; Would Mrs. Grillo have been happy if a loud BUFFOON like Kambwili was appointed to this technical position?

  32. Sad state of affairs indeed here you have it; the biggest danger to women empowerment in Zambia the women themselves; when we weigh up the pros and cons of this appointment we (Zambians) stand out to benefit more; Would this Mrs. Grillo have been happy if a Kambwili or a PF offical was appointed to this technical position?

  33. Sad state of affairs indeed here you have it; the biggest danger to women empowerment in Zambia is the women themselves.

  34. I like this development, please ba Sata, appoint more from ALL these small parties so that we remain with ONLY two parties (PF & UPND) by 2015. MMD like UNIP will be a story of the past soon and NEVER come to power again. So, we ONLY have UPND to give meaningful opposition. Please Mr. President, appoint Chipimo also, he won’t deny. I support you on this so we can put FDD to rest in peace.

  35. You LT why putting me on moderation every time?? Do you have some hidden agenda on me? Please behave LT.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  36. Nawakwi has a degree in economics and business management and a post-graduate diploma in the economics of energy and development from the University of London Imperial College. Is she not qualified to help develop Zambia through the project and also vast experience in governance.

  37. I guess she got broke, hence going back to her career. I ve also done the same. More allowances more money in her percy she got in Brazil when she went there with Sata.

  38. NGOCC leave Madame Nawakwi alone. Most of you ‘royal NGO queens’ have gotten too rich on top of poor and HIV -Aids donor funding. NGOCC has become an a white collar industry ‘chewing’ on top of poor Zambian’s heads. God is not mocked. And we know you, nama dollar personal accounts akawalala

  39. Imwe ba NGOCC you have been cheated that women are being appointed to positions arent you ashamed that all the women who have been appointed have some bad stories trailing behind them causing big houses to break . You agree that nga mwakafyako abantu elyo mwa ku laba promoted?
