Zanaco oust Power Dynamos as Champions

Zanaco have yanked the crown away from Power Dynamos to win the 2012 Faz Super Division title.

Zanaco beat Nkana 3-1 at Arthur Davies stadium to breeze pasted Power who were leading into the final stretch to finish top of the log on 61 points, two points more than the outgoing champions.

Power on the other hand lost 1-0 away to Red Arrows to relinquish their hold on the Super Division title and settle for second place.

Goals from Steven Phiri, Ziyo Tembo and Moses Phiri helped Zanaco pick their six league title to tie with Power on the honours’ list.

Reynold Kampamba scored Nkana’s consolation goal to record his 15th goal of the season and in line for the 2012 golden boot award.

Meanwhile, Daniel Sibanda broke Power’s hearts with a7 the minute header in a match the outgoing champions were second best for most of the game.

Zanaco will play in the 2013 Caf Champions League while Power have to settle for the Caf Confederation Cup.

However, Power has one more shot at glory next Saturday when they play Napsa Stars in the Barclays Cup final at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Power are the defending Barclays Cup champions.

  1. Power only have themselves to blame, they didn’t play like a team that was minutes from crowned champions. Arrows also, what were you playing for? Congrats to Zanaco and good luck in the champions league.

  2. Sad for our noisy neighbors. I watched their game live on SS9 from my Cape Town flat. Power looked anything but champions. Sad that kitwe loses out to sin city teams

  3. Too bad both teams from Southern province relegated. And oil men you have to be serious, why dont you put people who have passion for football to manage the team.

  4. Ba power dynamos, fordson kabole made you win the championship last year but you fired him under unknown circumstances. You have now paid the price.

The match at sunset stadium (power vs arrows) was characterized by fan pitch invasions. Police should stop this to protect our country’s soccer integrity. Being on super sport, other countries and authorities such as CAF and cosafa are watching-embarrassing.

  5. My Dream Team was Konkola Mpombozi Mine Police Team from Chililabombwe, a team that has grown up in the shaddows of Blades.

They started too well BUT collapsed on the way. They are even lucky they survived.

    Next time plan well.

  6. Joburg #11,

If it’s any consolation to you, the pain you feel is nothing compared to the pain MMD and UPND cadres have to endure after losing Mufumbwe. Your pain may end as soon as Power rebounds next season. But for UPND and MMD diehards, their pain of perennial losses may continue up 2016 and beyond – without any respite!

  7. Congrats ZANACO..but prepare hard for the continental challenge in which Power could have done better anyway going by their previous record. But Arrows what were you playing for anyway?.Power you are a great team…atleast you have Barclays cup in sight.
