Rainford Kalaba will on Tuesday know whether he can to play in Wednesdays friendly against South Africa in Johannesburg.
The TP Mazembe midfielder was expected in camp today in Johannesburg but they are still fitness concerns following his recent return from a month-long injury layoff.
“The team Doctor will examine him on Tuesday morning and thereafter make a decision whether he is fit enough to play on Wednesday,” Faz communications officer Erick Mwanza said.
Kalaba sustained a groin injury in Lubumbashi on October 7 in a Caf Champions League semifinal first leg tie against Tunisian club Esperance.
The midfielder went on to miss Zambia’s 2013 Africa cup return leg qualifier away to Uganda on October 13 in Kampala.
Meanwhile, the team on Monday was boosted by the arrival of Jacob Mulenga of Dutch club FC Utrecht and Southampton striker Emmanuel Mayuka.
And Chisamba Lungu of Russian second division club FC Ural is the last player expected in camp on Tuesday after attending to a league commitment today Monday.
In related news, SuperSport will beam the friendly live on SuperSport Four.
Chipolopolo don’t disappoint on Wednesday at Soccer City.
Why even contemplate risking him for a pointless friendly…
Let him go and hang he is a useless player, failing to score a decider penalty in AFCON and later a congolese by the name of SUNZU scored ATASE
If you were near by I could have stoned you with catapults, I don’t like Malinsos and Kolobwas. They don’t know how to behave just like you.
you are truly malinso, no doubt
keep away from further damage – this cud be chance for coach to try other players as well. dont force matters
– other jay jay has spoken
i call his abscence a blessing in disguise, lets try mukuka mulenga in Kalabas position
@dice, trying other players YES but not Mukuka Mulenga for GOD’s sake, the boy failed to perform against Arrows and barely 5 days u want to try with South Africa? lets try other players and Mukaka can be introduced in the 85th minute.
Mukuka Mulenga please don’t risk Kalaba. I hear Shadrick Malambo is marvelous to watch too?
Maliso muletontonkanya,Kalaba is a play maker.Stop yapping if you know nothing about soccer.
Who is this malinso kabwalala? im sure you are not Zambian you are southafrican and you know what kalaba can do to you remember the 3 nil bashing of southafrica who was instrumental in making the goals? mind you he is aguably the best attacking midfielder alongside yaya toure in africa so just shut up if you gat nothing to say. Gogogogogo Chipolopolo.
This guy looked fit to me coz i met him by Muyanganas in kafue with his X6 written Master Kalaba. hez ready to play but not full time 4a start. we miss him in the team we all saw it when we played uganda that there was a big gap in the midfield.
@number 8,He can be fit for walking en for lazying around en not fit for the match, allow the test to be done en whatever comes up thats what should be followed if anything he is just supposed to stay off this game en be set for the next one!!!!GO GO GO chipolopolo boys!!!!
even if he doesnt play we have other good enough players to take his place like mukuka and ndjovu
do not rush the young boy from injury just for friendly match!!! we have AFCON coming up soon. Lekeni umwaice apole
don’t risk the guy. its an opportunity to try other guys.
Like other bloggers have already stated, let us not rush Rainford Kalaba. We cannot afford to go to AFCON 2013 without him. You saw how we played against Uganda without him. I do not want to create an impression that Zambia cannot do without him. In football, there are always players who influence the direction of the game and Rainford happens to be one such player.
Z mayuka, mbesuma nd jacob mulenga part of da team whch wil play pharaoz?
