Bafana Coach Braces for Derby Showdown

Share

South Africa coach Gordon Igesund says Bafana Bafana is targeting a win against Zambia in the Nelson Mandela Challenge at Soccer City in Johannesburg.

Igesund told Kickoff.Com that Bafana wants to beat Zambia.

“Yes we want to win and do well and I think we will. We are in a better situation now than we were on our trip to Poland and Kenya. We will be getting better all the time,” he said.

He added Bafana was not under any pressure to win the Mandela Challenge contrary to Chipolopolo captain Christopher Katongo earlier statement that South Africa was under pressure to beat Zambia.

“Well, there is no pressure on Bafana to win a friendly match… The pressure is on Bafana to get to the semi-finals and win the Africa Cup of Nations,” Igesund said.

“We are doing the preparation right now, so there is no pressure on the players. They have to go out there and perform. They are professionals and they will do their job, that’s the bottom line.”

    • Vilifier, you are just jelous of Katongo. The man always rises to the occasion and he is hardworking. He is inspirational to his compatriots on the pitch, hence the Africa cup. Shut up if you don’t have anything substantive to contribute, and hence lower the morale among some players.

  1. Bafana Bafan wants to beat Zed at all costs. We know them. Chipolpolo just whack them well well once for all. They should have respect for the Champs.

  2. This is a pointless game with RSA having more to gain from win in form of bragging points and their FIFA ranking status…only god knows what kind of deals under the table the Great King Kalu has cut there in his home town in South Africa
I would have been more interested if a match was organised with the highly ranked North African teams.

    • Point taken…but we shall be playing potentially in front of 70 000 local fans plus (hopefully)…the likes of Mulenga Mukuba will appreciate such exposure and i think that is good for Zambia, because this boy is the future…we are game sir, and we shall win-if only to get one point on the ratings so be it! Besides, we were rated 76 days before we won the African Cup, meaning that its not the ratings that count, but the animal spirit in the team…Bafana will have that on Wed and we need it to maintain the bullets in us!!

    • With Kalaba not playing, Mulenga might just be the man to watch…besides, Jacob is surely going to start this game…otherwise i just might join the people calling for Renard’s blood!

  3. sometimes there is no eating Th Great kalu just organises these matches for the nation i hope, anyway wishing the lads exellent performance..

  4. I hope they lose the game to the
Bafana Bafana boys.We zambians have far bigger fish to fry like poverty, mandevu slums, the stone age schools structures, poor health care and the fact that foreign businesses have us by the throat threatening to sniff out our little business knowhow.Football shud be banned so we can focus on real challenges.Bafana-8-0 zambia wud be a good result.

  5. Iwe “mzambia wa zamani” you will shallow your words after tonight’s game. Chipolopolo are champs and they have every reason not to lose this game. Zambia 2 Bafana 1. Go Chipolopolo Go

    • I sure hope they lose the game.We in zambia should be obsessed about stuff like engineering,agri-business and building globally competitive brands not tu ma games for 11 unknown boys.

  6. you keep on ranting and think south can beat zed by that margin you are dreamers we win when it matters most not simple cosafa cup and frendlies you have all the money but we have a keep failing to qualify on merit to afcon we shall teach you football thats why mbesuma has the best goal record in your psl better than all your legends put together, shut up .

  7. ok all has been said to each other and the die has been cast and football is 90+ minutes lets wait and see how zambia is gonna make use of this prep.I for one l see Zambia win Go Zambia Go …..chipolopolo iye ..chipolopolo iye .Hit them and let them realise that you are Africa ONE1.
