The opposition MMD says it has decided to uphold the republican constitution and allow its members of parliament to serve in the Patriotic Front government.

MMD Vice President for administration Brian Chituwo has told QFM News in an exclusive interview that MMD is aware that the current constitution has a provision which allows the President to appoint any of the members of parliament to ministerial positions irrespective of their political affiliation.

Dr. Chituwo has however challenged the MMD parliamentarians currently holding ministerial position in the PF government to explain where their allegiance lies.

He adds that MMD as a party has its own principles and constitution by which all its members are governed and are expected to abide by.

Dr. Chituwo has noted that the MMD will however not hesitate to take disciplinary action against any of its parliamentarians serving in the PF government who goes against the party rules and regulations.

  1. Mr Chituwo you’re dealing with an opportunist (Sata) that changes more often than the seasonal flooding in Barotse plains. He’ll seek to co-opt all your MMD MP’s with the aim of weakening the opposition.Never, ever trust a hungry shark.

  2. Humble pie can be delicious if you take small bites! MMD must realize that what they created and perpetuated is what is still in force right now. Learn from all this that we need statutes that are bigger than a political term in office!!!

  3. Awesome ! I bet you have learnt a lesson through the Musumba incidence.I know you stand a chance of losing even the little mps you have if you went ahead with expulsions and eventual by-elections.Way to go MMD.

  4. Well the MMD has no choice, they have a visionless leaders, treacherous pact partners in the name of UPND and to top it all they are broke. There is no way MMD will survive the onslaught from the PF and there pending oblivion into the achives of history. Nevers Mumba thought he had a partner in UPND but now he has leant the hard way, while the MMD helped the UPND win the livingstone bye election, UPND never went to campaign in Muchinga. If Nevers was sharp he could have smelt the treachery then but no he was blinded by his bitterness. Nawakwi tried to advise but no his bitterness got the best of him. Now the MMD remains excessively bruised from the bye election with more of its MPs secretly ploting a leadership revolt or aliging themselves with the ruling party. viva sata, viva pf

  5. Nevers Mumba said MMD had declared a dispute over the matter. What is the party’s official position? MMD is at the blink of extinction!

  6. Good move chituwo. We don’t want to see unnecessary costly by-elections that divert billions to non productive political aggrandizement ventures.

The constitution submissions are clear, when you leave the party that elected you mp, the losing candidate with closest number of votes to the winner automatically is MP. This will seal the gaping hole selfish politicians have willy nilly utilized ove the years.

  7. Very wise move MMD. At least we shall avoid costly by elections. We shall see now if these MPs are there for selfish reasons or or the people of Zambia. Congratulations!

  8. This is called political pragatism, MMD through Nevers gambled to test the waters in North Western Province and the PF took the bait. The PF has not only won that bye-election, but it has sent a warning salva to the MMD that they will adopt any member they expel and repeat the Mufumbwe feat! So now, the MMd just has to eat the humble pie and say they will allow them to serve Government but expect them to follow Party regulations!!! MMD has lost its credibility and moral high ground on the MPs after Mufumbwe and that could have been avoided, Nevers has lost them a seat and he may not even win them any!!

  9. Also note that it has toi take the more sober and balanced Hon. Brian Chituwo to make this announcement as Nevers is too proud to do that and is probably still planning his match to State House, or worse still training to beat the President in jogging????

  10. Our appeal is that President Sata should not throw us aside becacause of one person, sorry to say our president Hakainde Hakainde has no constituency like us. Ourselves have a duty to deliver to our electorates. So far we are are fedup of the president’s self centredness.

  11. Wait! So you knew all along that what was happening was constitutional and that the national constitutional surpasses all party constitutions? Then why the drama? You should have aimed at developing the party through MPs who are in government. Togetherness and not alienation is the key to prosperity. Mumba is a pastor and should have read the Bible: A kingdom divided agaist itself cannot stand. How can a devil cast out devils?

  12. That’s because you useless chaps are finished you can’t afford to sack your MPs and risk another Mufumbwe! kekekekeke

  13. King cobra bitting mmd mps one by one to make sure he destroys the party, this is the best and fast way to one party state. STAND UP FOR ZAMBIA

  14. This is now more of a chess game than collaborative effort between President Sata and MMD. Check! now its your move Mr. President.

  15. If MMD is finished too bad for them, its actually people who chose to finish them; But Sata must not finish the opposition, its a not a balanced statement in a young democracy. The People of Zambia need UPND, MMD Edith and Elias’s parties in opposition for checks and balances. Zambia has pluralism instrument of ruling not one party state. So all political parties should be seen as instrumental. Its up to people to allign themselves to what they feel is working for them…
