MMD spokesperson Dora Siliya says party vice president for administration Brain Chituwo’s sentiments that the expulsion of MMD National Secretary Richard Kachingwe is wrong and against the party constitution, is a personal reflection.

On Saturday, Dr Chituwo who was flanked by MMD national women’s chairperson Catherine Namugala said at media briefing that NEC would soon review the matter to decide the way forward.

Dr Chituwo however, noted that while the expulsion of Major Kachingwe was wrong, the invalidation of the election of party president Dr Mumba by the expelled national secretary was equally not in line with the party constitution.

But in the turn of events, Ms Siliya said Dr Chituwo who is MMD Mumbwa Member of Parliament (MP), could have issued the statement on an individual basis.

She was speaking on Sunday evening when she featured on a live Muvi Television’s Assignment Programme dubbed ‘Politics of the Belly’.

Ms Siliya said, Dr Chituwo could have been expressing an individual decision because NEC met together with him and that a broad decision was made to expel Maj Kachingwe.

“Dr Chituwo is an individual and could have a personnel decision because NEC met and made a final decision which was announced by Mr Pande that Maj Kachingwe was expelled,” she said

Ms Siliya said Dr Mumba would soon call for a meeting to discuss some of the pertinent issues occurring in the party.

She said the MMD and other opposition political parties would this Saturday hold a rally in Mtendere township and was now finalising with police permits.

Meanwhile, with what is seemingly to be growing internal political strife in the MMD top leadership, the party youths in Lusaka province have called on their leaders to put the interest of the party first.

MMD Lusaka Province youth chairperson Watson Mtonga said in Lusaka yesterday that their party leaders should stop washing ‘dirty linen’ in the public in reference to the on-going leadership bickering.

Mr Mtonga was speaking when he presented a petition to party spokesperson Dora Siliya reaffirming their commitment to supporting party leader Nevers Mumba.

“In view of the recent disturbing developments that have been happening and impacting negatively on the party, we the MMD Lusaka youths do here present this petition to the party leadership and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the MMD.

“We urge all our leaders to put the interests of the party at heart and stop washing any perceived dirty linen in public,” Mr Mtonga said He said the youths supported NEC‘s expulsion of MMD national secretary Richard Kachingwe as recently announced by party chairperson Kabinga Pande.

“We also wish to put on record our full and total support to the Members of Parliament (MP)’s petition to president Nevers Mumba over expelled National Secretary Major Richard Kachingwe because it was clear from his media statements that his allegiance and loyalty had shifted to the Patriotic Front,” Mr Mtonga said

He said NEC appointment of MMD Senga Hills MP Kapembwa Simbao as acting national secretary was a good and vital for advancement of MMD’s ideas during its critical turbulent moment.

And receiving the petition, Ms Siliya urged the youths to remain united and carry out a massive recruitment drive to enable the former ruling party continue to exist.

  1. In the first place why did Major Kachingwe disregard the laid down provisions that led to the election of Dr. Mumba as MMD President. What brand of politics are we witnessing when Kachingwe is suddenly being supported by the PF machinery to discredit the MMD? Can the nation be made to believe that the behavior of Kachingwe and Namulambe would help re-organise MMD. There are just too many weeds that have encroached on the MMD structures. Besides, MMD has a Party Spokesperson mandated to inform the nation as authorized by the party structure. Indeed Dr. Chituwo may be suspected to be dancing to a distance drum emanating from the PF drumer.

    • hmmm MMD, so whoever has a divergent view of what is going on is dancing to the PFs drum tune? you chase all your leaders and remain with no credible leadership, hey chase chituwo also and namugala and see how quick PF will adopt them.

  2. Ya i agree with 4. i didn’t know Dora was cute. Now, MMD is missing an opportunity offered by Dr. Chituwo to correct the mess. Chituwo never supported either camp but condemed both actions and promised to convene a meeting. this meeting in my view should be convened without Sekwila or Maj. the attendes should be objective & firm, especially, on due presidency, eligibility of Sekwila. let them also peruse the powers of the Secretary general of the party. once this has being done they should issue a joint statement to reinstate Maj Kanchingwe then request him to take sabatical leave & Sekwila to renounce all his sekeletons in the closets & forge ahead. we should see them embrace each other in front of cameras. Anything short of this its bon voyage MMD.

  3. U can hold a rally in Kabulonga this time, why Mtendere, Kuku, Chawama, Kanyama, George owez?? Go kuma yandi imwe amambala, RB is busy getting awards internationally so mambala anachita chiweme bati??

    • People should not be rewarded for doing what was expected of them. When you lose an election, you are expected to hand over the instruments of power, no more no less.

These people that are recognizing our politicians for doing what is expected of them are in effect saying, “We should encourage these Africans to do the right thing, throw them a cookie, for without that incentive, they will perpetuate the tradition of tinpot dictatorship.”

If I were RB, I would not accept it, because it is demeaning!

Mandela refused to thank De Clarke for releasing him from prison. In response to a question he said, “I ought not to have been sent to prison in the first place.”

Similarly, a president who loses reelection ought to hand over power without hesitation.

  4. On Monday 17 December,Mr Kaingu was courted:”Dr Chituwo was not there when this decision was being made and we won’t hold him responsible for the statement he made,” he said.and today I read “Ms Siliya said, Dr Chituwo could have been expressing an individual decision because NEC met together with him and that a broad decision was made to expel Maj Kachingwe.” My question is where was Dr Chituwo exatly during this NEC meeting

  5. Imwe ba MMD, go behind closed doors and discuss your differences from there. we cannot be having contradictory statements from every dick, tom and harry on a daily basis. leave this space in the newspapers for the publication of other stories such Katongo winning the BBC award, Tazara has purchased new engines, etc

  6. Umwaume, wasosa, ichalo chilekumfwa. Where are you from? Are you from the Bantustans, Kolwestans, Mbebastans or what? Just kidding!!!

  7. NO. 8 KWACHERANJI, YOU HAVE SAID EXACTLY WHAT I WAS ABOUT TO. THESE GUYS IN THE MMD DON`T TELL THE TRUETH. EVEN MUMBA IS A LIER YOU REMEMBER THE MEETING WITH ANDAKEI, HE REFUSED THAT THEY NEVER TALKED ABOUT RP PARTY. BUT ANDALAKEI COMFIRMED TO THE MIDIA THAT THEY DID.
SO JUST KNOW THAT THE ONLY PERSON TELLING THE TRUETH HERE IS CHITUWO AND NAMUGALA, THE TRUETH WAS THAT THE NEC MEETING WAS FAKE BECAUSE THEY DID NOT FORM A QOURAM TO GIVE REAL DECISIONS. KAINGU AND MUMBA ARE CROCKS AND FAKE .

  8. Dora, we have plenty for you to do in the PF especially regarding pushing the Pro-Poor policy. You are among the few clean MMD MP’s so please defect. Wynter needs pipo like you to assist. thanks

  9. Madam Dora only fools would respect what you have to say. And please stop taking Zambians for granted. You, RB and sons steal from us, you insult us on top of that.
