The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set Thursday 28th February 2013 as the date for Mpongwe parliamentary bye-election.
The ECZ has also set the same date for the local government bye-elections in the 25 wards in Chibombo, Kapiri Mposhi, Mkushi, Luangwa, Lusaka, Kabompo, Mwinilunga, Chavuma and Ithezi Tezhi districts.
The Mpongwe parliamentary seat fell vacant its Member of Parliament, Gabriel Namulambe resigned from the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) and Joined the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) while the vacancies in the 25 wards arose from resignations, deaths, and defections of councillors.
ECZ Public Relations Manager Chris Akufuna has disclosed this in a statement issued to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Lusaka yesterday.
Mr. Akufuna has since urged candidates in the forthcoming bye-elections to lodge completed and attested statutory declaration and nomination papers before the magistrate, local court magistrate, head of a government primary or secondary school, principal of a college, Commissioner of Oaths, election officer or returning officer on 31st January next year.
He has also advised all aspiring candidates in the Mpongwe parliamentary bye-election to attend a nomination briefing on 29thJanuary next year at the Mpongwe civic centre.
Meanwhile, Mr. Akufuna has said the ECZ has set the period between Thursday 31st January and Tuesday 26th February 2013 as the campaign period for the forthcoming parliamentary and local government bye-elections.
He also said pursuant to section four of the Electoral Act No 13 of 2006, the commission has suspended voter registration from tomorrow, 28th December 2012 to 3rd March next year.
ZANIS
What a date?: ‘Thursday, 29 February, 2013.’ Hope not in 2013 as this date does not exist on the calendar.
It’s 28th an
Teach the defecting MPs by not voting for them. Get their money but don’t vote for them.
Not with the electorate in the rural areas they are easily made to believe that development goes hand in hand with ruling party.
Watch ” Sata on KAbimba” on YOu tube. Very funny I laughed my butt off! Also ” President Sata First Nation address” hilarious  couldn’t stop laughing
Watch the PF and Sata rig and intimidate on this by election like they did in mufumbwe. The leopard never changes its spots.
By Elections are now as popular as kitchen parties
Such a waste of resources for a very poor country
What is the budget for this by election.I think people need to know and where is the money coming from specifically?
@Sharon,which 29th are u seeing which the rest of us cant see kanshi?
Help me friends understand this…. Why should the country spend Billions of Tax payers money on a POLITICAL PROSTITUTE?? do we spend such colosal sums on prostitutes surely?? The same Hule will switch camp if tomorrow MMD came back to power. He will go back to MMD with some stupid excuses. If UPND won he will shift camp and join UPND. The foolish one here is not the prostitute but the one who entertains the prostitute. Remember he is a Prostitute!!! Prostitutes are SEBANA WIKUTE, totally shameless creatures. They will do anything to continue eating.
Pity civil societies that were vibrant during MMD reign have gone under ground who should have spear headed to decampaign all individuals who create these expensive by electione. Parties that adopt individuals causing by elections are enemies of development in the nation and should be condemed.
This PROSTITUTE IS NOT EVEN SWEET. MweBalamba teach Gabriel Namulambe a lesson.
Please dont VOTE for him.
This is why technological advances are important especially in our rural areas..i can foresee our president preaching his political rhetoric to the masses next month in Mpongwe about voting for his candidate as this is the only way development will come to them.
We need to stand up and sponsor an independent candidate and teach these defecting MPs a real lesson in the future!! Â
lets all come together as BETTER ELECTORATE, don’t vote for any DEFECTOR, they have jst been taking people for a ride thinking people r there to make the accts bubble.
Good move to suspend the continuous voter registration.
Has this been done before? The move helps to avoid a lot of irregularities and to finalise the voters’ register(s).
i hope the poeple of Mpongwe teach this prostitute a lesson
