Leader of the MMD Die Hard Youth Wing Bowman Lusambo has charged that the resignation of Livingstone Central MP Reverend Howard Sekwila is a betrayal of democracy.
Mr. Lusambo said the MMD youth regrets having campaigned for Reverend Sekwila in the Livingstone bye election which he won on July 05, 2012.
“The old man is a disappointment, he has chosen to betray democracy and opt for his belly. It is unfortunate that tax payers will yet again have to fund an unnecessary bye election,” Mr. Lusambo said.
“Reverend Sekwila was not even popular in the area. He benefitted greatly from the MMD machinery on the ground and he has now chosen to assault democracy.”
He added,” as MMD youths, we are not surprised because this is part of a grand scheme by the PF and President Sata to get Zambia to a one party state.
He said the MMD is determined to reclaim the Livingstone seat which was originally held by Lukulo Katombola before it was nullified by the High Court.
“That is our seat and we are going there to reclaim it. We gave it to the UPND out of mutual understanding but we feel our efforts to campaign for a UPND candidate we have been repaid with betrayal,” Mr. Lusambo said.
A parliamentary bye election is looming in Livingstone Central yet again after area MP Reverend Howard Sekwila resigned from the UPND citing hostility and tribalism in the opposition party.
Mr Ma wire please read through the main reason why the MP had to resign. His party could not allow him to sit with government ministers to discuss developmental issues in his area because his party would not allow it. Ba ma wire do not be judgmental. The man’s conscience dictated to him to do the right thing if he could not be allowed by his party to mingle freely with project funders.

What conscience are you talking about? Why didn’t he raise developmental issues in parliament? For some of us who have known Sikwela in the church are not surprised because he does not mean well. It is unfortunate that our country has been hijacked by unintelligent people like this young man. You cannot speak of national democracy when the parties themselves are not democratic. Even as we debate this issue here Madam Namugala is facing suspension from MMD for speaking her mind out. Where is the democracy in MMD? Where is the democracy in PF? Indeed where is the democracy in UPND. If democracy had existed in UPND, the reverend would have stayed on as MP for the party. Instead, he was subjected to the usual vitriolic abuse that is characteristic of our political scene. As and until principled people take over the political space, words like democracy will always sound hollow.

If Sata wins 2015 he will have rigged the elections. What opposition needs to do now is to dismantle all the loop holes that he has used to rig elections in the past. They should set up a parallel system of monitoring these elections. We need all the international organisations to come and monitor these elections and not Mugabe (Zanu- PF) group which he may have already lined up on the top of the list for this event.
