MMD president Nevers Mumba has been summoned to appear before a combined team of Government Joint Investigative Wings at the former Taskforce offices on corruption in Lusaka on Tuesday.

Joint Government Investigative Wings public relations officer Namukolo Kasumpa said Dr Mumba would appear before the investigative wings at their offices in Woodlands around 10:00 hours.

Ms Kasumpa said Dr Mumba’s summon was in connection with continued investigations on alleged gross financial irregularities at the Zambian High Commission in Canada, which was under his supervision.

“We expect Dr Mumba to appear here tomorrow around 10:00 hours in the morning. This is in connection with continued investigations on alleged abuse of funds whilst in Canada,” she said in an interview today.

Meanwhile, four MMD cadres today enjoyed a brief moment of freedom when the Lusaka magistrate court discharged them of assault charges against expelled MMD national secretary Richard Kachingwe and two others.

MMD Die Hard Coordinator Bowman Lusambo, Chiwele Maimisa, Scorpion Kadobi and MMD Lusaka province youth leader Watson Mtonga were later re-arrested and taken to Ridgeway police post within the magistrate complex where they were slapped with similar charges of assault.

Senior resident magistrate Mwaka Mikalile who earlier discharged the four of assault occasioning bodily harm charges informed them that the withdrawal of the offence was not an acquittal as they were bound to be re-arrested.

This was after State prosecutor Michael Nyendwa made an application before court to withdraw charges against Lusambo, Kadobi, Maimisa and Mtonga who were initially separately charged but facing similar charges.

Mr Nyendwa said that the withdrawal of the charges were meant to enable the state consolidate the two similar offence that were earlier slapped on Lusambo, Kadobi, Maimisa and Mtonga separately.

Magistrate Mikalila granted the application but police re-arrested the four and charged them with three counts of assault.

Lusambo, 35, of house number 8240 Chamba Valley, Kadobi 44 of house number 89 Lusaka West and Maimisa, 44, of house number 10 Chilenje South and Mtonga 42 of Mtendere Township later in the afternoon appeared before Chief resident Magistrate Joshua Banda to take fresh plea.

They denied all the charges Magistrate Banda granted each of the accused KR15, 000 (K15 million) bail in their own recognizance, two working sureties each from well-established institutions in a like sum and in their own recognizance.

By press time, the four were still detained as they were finalizing their bail formalities.

It is alleged in this matter that on December 1, 2012, Lusambo, Kadobi, Maimisa and Mtonga jointly and whilst acting together with other unknown people assaulted Major Kachingwe, publicity secretary Tobias Kafumukache and former MMD sympathizer Gregory Chifire, occasioning them actual bodily harm.

Lusambo, Kadobi, Maimisa and Mtonga would on January 30 2013 appear for mention while trial would commence on February 13 2013.

  1. Ba Nevers, is this the price of being an opposition leader? Well yes nothing comes on a silver platter, the God you serve will see you thru all these but God is preparing you and teaching you to be a wise and torelant leader. Praise him whenever they lock you or do any injustice to you and leave vergence to God!

    • No sacred souls when it comes to the fight against corruption or abuse of authority of office.
Nevers may not have pocked the money but that does not mean that he did not abuse public resources.

    • Even if he stole?Let him be investigated, and if he’s found guilty,God’s not going to do anything about it.Why do people misunderstand God?Don’t commit a crime and think God’s going to protect you?And for heavens sake, stop using the name of God for your selfish reasons.

  2. Nevers Mumba chindi chasiga….Ba president na bakapokola twalumba kapati. Uyu musankwa tatumuyandi mu MMD.

  3. Mumba ukosenokukosa it’s pay back time ulechulilamo for hijacking MMD. Mean while arrest those die hard bustards youths MMD supporters for assaulting major Kachingwe.

  4. I doubt whether these guys are really investigators with an intelligent staff complement. Shudnt they be a bit faster? We are waiting for cases on Banda his wife, Dora kabimba etc cases just keep piling up cos they are damn slow!

  5. Raw JIK,

The number of cases and people to investigate is challenging. The investigators need to cover a lot of ground before they can summon anyone. Also our system is lacking in some areas that some criminals always get away without paying for their crimes. A good example is people who can afford lawyers to get them endless bail. Some plunderers have been on bail longer than the sentence they got for their crimes.

  6. Hahahahaha, yaba. It was a matter of time before this happened. I was actually surprised that, GOVT has taken this long to bring this issue up.
Those of us affiliated with Zambian embassy in Ottawa know about these allegations. Yes, we all know Nevers abused his powers in Ottawa.

    You want facts? Holla@medotnizee.

  7. Our country is faced with serious problems that need urgent attention instead of fighting political opponents.
Sata, people voted you in to resolve the real issues of unemployment and poverty. They did not vote for you to fight other people.
This case does not hold any water.
It’s merely a ploy to consolidate his re-election in 2016.
It’s ok to seek re-election but not to victimise other people.
Politics is all about popularity and if Mr Sata wants re-election it has to be on that basis. Don’t kill others in order to succeed.
    When will Zambian politics mature?
May be get rid of all old politicians.

  8. Making this i d i o t unneccasarily popular, adding fuel for him to use as a political tool. carry on like this and he will be zambias next president. Id say if they had an election right now, eg if sata suddenly dies, then it will be race between HH and mumba, both i d i o t s , both tribalists, but mumba will have a slight edge over HH, maybee its satas plan all along.

  9. Whats wrong with africans kanshi ? Now every last jim and jack in police , ACC, revenue etc is going to be on mumbas case without any prompting from sata, all in hope of some promotion, werent these the politics of chiluba? Separate from that it just shoes how primitive the politics is pa z.

  10. Sata, Kaunda, Kabimba, Mmembe and Sakeni are very backward and primitive people. These people spend most of their lives strategizing on how to bring grief or misery to other people. They are the purest of evil. It is these kind of people who have ruined Zambia. Can you imagine the vindictiveness that would have been there if Zambia had Kaunda , Sata or Chiluba incarcerated for 27 years like Mandela? And for some warped reason these foo.ls like invoking Christianity and the name of God. Great people invoke human rights and liberty i.e. Mandela, MLK etc.

  11. Did you ever imagine that the corrupt RB and his boys could still be walking as free men when Sata became President? Who says there is not rule of law in Zambia? The fact that the government did not move on the Pastor shortly after being recalled should not now make him a saint! Cases never die.

    • And what evidence do you have about RB’s corruption. The same sterile and empty accusations from Fred Mmembe who wants his own debt of K18bn wriiten off by DBZ.

    • It is pointless victimizing Nevers Mumba who inflicted no harm on anybody. The only crime Nevers has committed is to soundly defeat his equally competent fellow MMD Presidential candidates which has continued to annoy Sata. The harassment he is going through is making him popular. In African politics,if you have not been falsely imprisoned by the ruling party, chances are you will never become President.Nevers Mumba is therefore receiving the required baptism for State House.

  12. When will our politics in Zambia mature? Enough of this s.h.i.t. We want to see progress and development not witch hunting.

  13. Chasing political shadows, fighting the opposition, appointing fools, creating new districts and firing is all Sata’s govt ever does.Is there any real development and governing ever done by PF? Why has RB never been charged? Why has PF never effected any convictions of MMD’ corrupt era?

  14. Oh, please we have been down this road before and what has changed. Last time our president challenged you guys to take him to court where he will defend himself and answer all false charges.

Today will be the same message he will bring. He wont answer any questions. Take him to court and he is ready to answer the charges before a constitutionally mandated court. The Investigative wing is not a court.

What we expect is for you to arrest him today and set the date he will appear on court over flimsy ground and we shall soundly defeat and humiliate you in court. That is where we shall fight this battle. Not in the office of PF cadres.

Our president has the right to remain silence before these cadres today, period.

  15. This is typical Chimbwi Justice! Just wasting taxpayers money following a case that the auditor general’s report refuted claims clearly stating that there was no misappropriation of funds in Canada. Twanaka naimwe ba kapokola ba-PF cadre atase!!

  16. Don’t touch the Anointed one. The Lord watches over him . You will bring Judgement upon your life & Family. Leave the man of God alone.

  17. Where is Kapoko and the MoH billions of kwachas? No weopon formed against Nevers Mumba shall prosper. If God be be for us who can be against us.

  18. I will only support this PF antic when all the reported abuses in the various foreign missions are prosecuted. Where are we with the Chulumanda funds abuse case and many similar ones? Or else it will be another witch hunt.

  19. If Mumba was Tonga, you would have been saying Sata is a tribalist. By the way HH has been quiet of late. Is he in Livingstone hunting for Sikwela to get his refund? The K500m invested in Sikwela, was it given directly to him or what? Please enlighten me.

  20. Dictator Sata wants to cleanse himself as a saint when Zambians know how much he stole with late Golden Mandandi, Mezalf housing, caought with $13,000 at airport in South Africa stolen from ministry of Health where he was minister the list is endless. Wait, once out of state you will account for your ilicit activies.

  21. In my view, the whole futile exercize iz just making Nervous Mumba unnecessarily popular and distracting the PF from governing the country az mandated by the majority Zambianz who voted enmass. Just IGNORE this flamboyant man of the pulpit…

  22. Not this story again yaba! Didn’t you detain him at the airport when he landed from Canada and question him other times too ? Please concentrate on Kabimba or even Masebo who is killing wild animals without following procedures.Better still lets focus on developing our economy. No one was born PF or MMD we are all Zambians and want to see Zambia develop.Stop persecuting fellow Zambians just because they are hold differing opinions to the Ruling party.BTW anyone know whats happened to the Chikopa case?

  23. Light and darkness are now more clearly separating so that even the blindest will make an informed decision to either support the Man of God or the Son of SataN name after his father Sat…… next time.
