Northern Province Minister Gerry Chanda has strongly castigated Nyiombo Investment Limited for failing to supply adequate fertilizer to vulnerable farmers in the province.

Col Chanda has since given Nyiombo an ultimatum of up to January 20 this year to delivery all the fertilizer allocated to the province failure to which government will take serious action against the fertilizer firm.

The minister, who was visibly annoyed, told Nyiombo Investment Limited Assistant Regional Manager Paul Mutale during a stakeholders meeting in Kasama that his company will be held responsibility if Northern province were to experience food insecurity.

He said it is unacceptable for Nyiombo to delay the delivery of D-compound and Urea despite having a contractual obligation with government.

Col Chanda charged that he will not tolerate excuses by the fertilizer firm that the delay in delivering the farming inputs was due to government’s initial delay in awarding the contract to the company to supply the commodity.

He observed that Nyiombo Investment limited consented to the provision of the contract to supply fertilizer in good time but wondered why it was failing to honour its obligation.

Col Chanda said it would be embarrassing for the people of Northern province to ask for relief food from government when the area is well known for bumper harvests in maize production.

And Mr Mutale said the delay by Nyiombo in delivering fertilizer to Northern province was due to transportation problems facing the company in ferrying fertilizer from Dar-es-salaam in Tanzania to Zambia.

He however said his company was doing everything possible to overcome the challenges of meeting its obligation of supplying fertilizer to the expectant farmers.

Mr Mutale further promised to relay the message to his superiors in Lusaka that government was not happy with the performance of Nyiombo Investment Limited in Northern province.

  1. this is all the reason why this govt. should revamp nitrogen chemicals. the delay by nyiombo can be deliberate as the relationship between this govt and the company has not been all that good. this company had a sound relationship with mmd and as such, they can do everything possible to ensure that this govt. fails.

    • WITH MMD,AGRICULTURE SECTOR WAS BOOMING….THE SATANIST SATA HAD TO GIVE MUGABE ALOT OF TONS OF MAIZE .LIGHT AND DARKNESS DO NOT MOVE TOGETHER.GOD SEPARETED LIGHT FROM DARKNESS.THERE WAS AND THERE IS A DIVISION UPTO TODAY.WE NEED TO REMOVE THIS CHRITIAN NATION FROM THE POWER OF SATANISTS.THE BATTLE IS THE LORDS…

  2. Does this man even know Farming, PF is to blame for food shortages the country will experience next year forget about the bumper harvest crap u can’t bring fertiliser in January by the time u distribute it to the farmers it will be February ninshi amataba ya ba ready. Am not bothered since its Muchinga Province I would worry if this problem was in Southern Province, because Southern Province is the province that feeds us. Akulyeni fye fi tute

  3. Vulnarable farmers?? Somehow I can support Kabimba for not risking money investing in people who are vulnerable. Vulnerable farmers should be subsidized by the government, so its Col. Chanda to supply fertilizers.

  4. Why should this minister worry about fertilizer? It is a waste of fertilizer to take it to lazy chaps. Let them enjoy that primitive root they have always been eating in the name of cassava. What bumper harvest has kasama produced in the history of Zambia. Continue with that stone age food of yours. the only problems is that perpetual cassava eaters become slow thinkers. It is evident in the way our colleagues are failing to develop Zambia when in power. CNP

  5. In the first place y did u contract these thieves and mmd symphathizer? That’s y Zambia is full of backward pipo like the embacile above who thinks food is only corn.Pf will shame u embaciles that lie in wait to see their wrongs.Demagogues!

    • No need to call each other names sir.shortage of corn meal is capable of bringing down government .which other crop is as important as maize politically in Zambia.

  6. Some bloggers lack of knowledge on agriculture products is staggering. Shortage of corn has a ripple effect on many farmers, poultry and dairy farmers will be hard hit due to lack of feed for the animals. Pig and beef farmers will have to cut the numbers to levels they can manage to feed. That’s why the shortage of corn affects the prices of many products and for those people think corn is only for human consumption, ask your yourself what can happen if we have no corn to feed our animals? We will end up eating all the dairy cows and all the egg producing chicks.

  7. some how pf government is to be blamed i strongly concur with Niombo the difficulties they are facing moving there goods thru TAZARA . Tazara is now full of political experts than managers both Tanzania and Zambian person-ell why keeping them when they have failed to run the company Mr Sata are u not seeing what is happening ! where is Ur action .

  8. Don’t be cheated: this is a management problem on the part of gov’t! Niombo is in business and can do business with whoever has cash! Most likely Gov’t has not fulfilled its obligations

  9. Nyiombo can not be blamed. The contract was first delayed by PF attempts to stop award of contract. PF favored company went to court and delayed award of contract. Thereafter government shut down Nyiombo operations by conducting search of premises for one week and taking away the computers. Lastly government has not released money due under the contract.

  10. Nyiombo is not to blame, blame lies squarely on pf chaps.at first they wanted to do away with them and offer the contract to those indians on sheki sheki rd are they called nasla or something, after they failed these chaps had to eat their vomit and go back to nyiombo.so this chanda fellow must know the source of the delay.why were there no delays in mmd era? CNP

  11. And you can’t master sata’s goverment.this chanda fellow when was he realigned ti nothern province? You can’t help but laugh.who is in lusaka now?

  12. The ever green ZWD has a story when splinter kapimpe tried to surbotage operations of nyiombo inv accusing them of all wrongs even going to an extent of setting his security pimps on them.how did gov go back to them? Ba chanda empty threats to attract ukwa’s attention

  13. For sure the province will experince poor harvest due to poor delivery of fertilsers because time for Compound D application is long gone. Mr. Minister visit some fields and see the situation on the ground. Saddening really!

  14. THE MONEY PAID TO NYIOMBO SHOULD BE USED TO REVAMP NITROGEN CHEMICALS.THE $750 BOND SHOULD BE USED ON FERTILIZER MANUFUCTURING BECAUSE IT IS A VIABLE AND SENSIBLE INVESTMENT

  15. It is disgusting for this Company responsible for distributing fertilize in Northern Porvince to be so irresponsiuble in not delivering the same on time. if this Company was operating in UK, it would be heavily punished and it’s licence revolked. The ruling Government should strip this Company of the right to distribute the fertilizer so that this unfortunate situation is not repeated next planting season.
