Welcome to Chipata
Welcome to Chipata

Chipata Municipal Council has failed to take action against bars which operate at awkward hours due to political pressure.

Public Relations Officers Taonga Kaonga said efforts to have bars that start operations before the recommended 15 to 22 hours failed due to political pressure from cadres of a named political party.

Ms Kaonga told ZANIS in an interview that the council was still trying to find ways on how to handle the matter.

And Ms. Kaonga said council was in the process of closing bars that operate in market place.

She stated the process of closing bars in market places was quite a long process which was underway by the council.

She named markets where bars operate as Kaumbwe , Kapata, and Mchini areas in Chipata district.

In another development, Drainages that were filled up with garbage and waste causing roads to be washed away have been distilled and de-drained by Chipata Municipal Council.

The roads at Kapata market and bus station that were in bad state and at a higher rate of causing accidents have since been worked on by the council.

  1. Lets see how the government will tackle this one…no points for guessing what political party would stop the council from doing its operations! Will a fresh way of governance and the true rule of law ever come to Zambia in our time?!

  2. Come on…. a “named political party” that is not named. I don’t suppose that party would be PF by any chance, would it?

I also like this: “bars which operate at awkward hours”. Uh…. try ILLEGAL HOURS!

Now how many parties have cadres who get to barge their way around and do things illegally? Any guesses?

  3. Iye ba LT – mwangufwisha insoni. Sure you can fail to say PF? You are free to express yourselves – feel free – Zambia is a free country you are guaranteed freedom of speech. Be ready to go to jail for saying the truth. Unless muletubepafye!

  4. People need to realize that in Zambia PF cadres are in power. They can do what they want anywhere and anytime. Everyone is scared of them. Seleni amacadres bateke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Dont worst our time if you dont mention the political party, you better stay with your story. Dont start bring bukachepa if you have nothing to talk about.

  6. At least the PF cadres have found an issue close to their hearts worth standing up for – extended opening hours of bars.

  7. Thou shall not mention the name of god(PF) in vain! Its one of the ten commandments by which Sata is ruling. H.H. Learnt it the hard way when he talked about youth training. Running away from PF fights by LT is not cowardice but wisdom because a He-goat that challenges a sick lion to a fight will not live to tell while a patient one will definitely live to attend the burial of the sick lion.

  8. Police go and cite bar owners. That is income. Slam the bar owners with $100 fines. Arrest the patrons and fine them with $20 fines. If they don’t pay suspend bar operations for three months and send those bar patrons to jail for thirty days. That is how to enforce the law. There is nothing like negotiating around the law with any party or person. No one is exempt and above the law. Zambia Police go to those taverns and enforce the law. In such situations you do not even need any instruction.

  9. Ok that’s a good job you are trying to do. Even barss in residential areas should be closed. What is the law regarding bars and pubs blaring loud music and that as well till late into the night? Please advise

  10. LT should have done a ka investigative journalism to get to know the political party cadres applying the pressure on the council.

The same selective justice is happening here in Lusaka where some bars operating in so-called sanitary conditions have been closed but some place at Kangwa in Libala which has a number of small bars without toilets is untouched. Patrons urinate on the nearby walls, and the council has not taken action to close them down because the place is linked to one of the big wigs in PF. Shame on the toothless council!

  11. elo i can imagine ma sun downi yamene ya ma nkalako!!my bululus in the east are chakolwas who were always kept in check!manje now that they are in PF where any manner of foolishness goes..awe shuwa ni pwando!!nadi nadi adada chiuta wati pulikileko waka lusungu..vinthu vya suzya sono!!…PF need to cage these pets of theirs..before they turn on them..i strongly feel cadres of today are Zambias militia of tommorrow..its a trick thats been used everywhere..keep ur supporters intoxicated and u have a loyal lapdog for life..

    • Please leave you lying tongue flat. Let it only flap when chewing or educating your own Children. Leave my wonderful Kumawa province alone with our wisdom and hard work. How did we not find a suitable replacement for Mwanawasa, still beats me. Now we have to deal with the most ridiculous minister Zambia has ever seen. Have no prejudice I really like president Sata; his ministers on the other hand leave much, or so much to be desired.

  12. @ # 16 Mwana_Nkana do not try to use that nonsense psychology with us from the eastern province. Zambia’s diverse bread basket. We and the southern province are Zambia’s food reserve and practice no chitemene soil erosion techniques of farming or political corrosion. Notice how the city council in Chipata actually cleaned drainages and were on a mission to close bars? Where do you think the opposition for this good work is coming from? Leave my people alone, we are wise and hard working.

  13. We have no rule of law because the President leads by bad example. Vendors are everywhere yet there are laws, illegal taxis (in chipata all taxis are illegal) they have no licences and pay no tax and now illegal bars. When you complain to the Police to RTSA Council all they say is we can’t take action because it Political. This is corruption and PF is full of it all I can say is nothing has changed we removed RB who was driving the BUS and replaced it with CNP who is driving without a licence. The bus is going in the same direction to hopelessness. Why even pass laws when no once wants to follow or enforce them total waste of democracy and rule of law. That’s why we will remain 3rd world and will never develop.
