Local Government and Housing Deputy Minister, Forrie Tembo has summoned the Director General for Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) to report to Luangwa District immediately and answer to quarries on the water situation.

Mr. Tembo who is in Luangwa District to inspector on projects expressed concern and worry that Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company was providing untreated water to its consumers.

He said it was sad that the company was providing unsafe drinking water to it customers when Government had mandated it to provide safe and clean water to the people to avoid outbreaks of waterborne diseases.

The visibly annoyed Deputy Minister said there was no way the company could delay in sending aluminum sulphite to Luangwa when it was informed on time that the chemical was urgently required in the area for the purification of water.

Mr. Tembo called the Director General on his mobile phone directing him to travel to Luangwa District and check for himself the water that they were providing to residents and also the environment the workers were operating in.

The Deputy Minister for Local government and Housing who was accompanied by District Commissioner, Eunie Mumba, Council Secretary, Peter Nguluwe and several District Heads of Department said there was a threat of an outbreak of waterborne diseases in the District and that Lusaka Water and Sewerage Director General should do something before lives are lost.

Mr. Tembo however expressed happiness at the refurbishing of the water plant in Luangwa District to replace the old system that has outlived its life span.

He said that the works been done were good and the Director General should come and answer to some issues that need to be highlighted such as what will happen to the old system and how long the works will take.

The Local government Deputy Minister said the PF Government was in a hurry to deliver better services to the people and those stakeholders engaged should ensure that they work to expectation.

  1. Look at that thing Tembo, a really thug.
These PF- Pathetic Fools, just know how to threaten people. Who is Forrie Tembo to be commanding Director of a big company to cancel his duties to go and kneel to Forrie? Threats threat… its Pathetic.

    • Nostradamus….don’t you think the guy is doing the right thing by tying to correct a situation that will in the wrong-line save lives? Should he seat back while the head of the country’s water company is being paid for not doing his job? Think about your comment it lacks reason and objectivity. I won’t be surprised if you heaped insults on me also!!!

    • Ba Elisha Mtonga, I don’t insult people like you, you sound like a christian. But still Forie alitumpa, that’s wrong way to address a problem. He should have driven back to Lusaka, make an appointment with director, mobilize all of you cadres and they you all go there and make noise.
So did the Director General obey the order????

  2. NKANA WATER IN KITWE AS WELL. THE WATER IS BAD SUCH THAT YOU JUST HAVE TO BUY DRINKING WATER. IF YOU HAVE WHITE SHIRTS, ITS SOMETHING ELSE!!!!!

  3. its all PF government failure, this water crisis started from UTH, this is the most pathetic government we have ever had.

  4. The Deputy Minister is very right to summon the Director of Lsk Water and Sewerage Co if the guy is not doing his job. Should government stand by while the populace is being exposed to threats of disease though untreated water? Lsk water are providing poor services to populace and if anything this Director should be fired. We are tired of constantly not having water and the other day I had a serious tummy problem that I believe I got from drinking tap water. There are things we can condemn but here I am siding with the D/Minister!!!

  5. The minister is okey, let these directors descend from there to the ground and see for themselves what is on the ground. Well done bwana minister. When he comes back from luangwa after the grilling he will make sure that every point is well attended to.

  6. i have always thought that forrie tembo is a lady…. atase kanshi caume.
anyway ci forrie, well done and please extend your tour to all water utility companies in zambia. they are all the same. by the way, has someone noticed how luxurious their lives are?

  7. LT please mind your headlines.Summon ‘Lusaka water’. Just because people get what you mean does not excuse your fourth grade-level of English that you employ on your site more times than I care to mention.

  8. I agree with you entirely. Kafubu Water needs to be punished for the dirty, smelly water they give us on a randomly rationed basis. Please continue sunctioning these utility companies as they are giving us a raw deal at exorbitant prices. I wonder where they get their metering and billing systems from. Its time Ndola residents rose up to Kafubu Water like our friens have against their water utilty companies

  9. “The visibly annoyed Deputy Minister said…” This a trade mark very Zambia management style. Hope the minister doesn’t bust a blood vessel. When people voted for Sata they hoped for just an such approach to manage inefficient subordinates. I haven’t yet seen one of those infamous public humiliations of govt officials like Sata used to carry out. Unfortunately this is the only way to get things done in Zambia. The officials are still in a delinquent stage of youth and need an iron fist to get them working. Next time be sure to take a whip and cameras.

  10. The people of Luangwa are entitled to expect good basic services, but they don’t get them. The roads are appalling – so bad that they cause long journeys to take hours longer than they should. The postal service is shockingly bad, with overseas airmail routinely taking six months or more to be delivered. People in the district feel they are living in a remote area. Yet Luangwa is only 230 kilometres from the capital! Now the water is unsafe and the population faces the threat of disease. This is unacceptable. The Minister should be applauded for bringing the provider to account. That’s his job.

Zambians must require good quality essential services – and for everyone, in all parts of the country. Otherwise, what does being ‘one people’ mean?
