A parliamentarian has appealed to government to provide money to Members of Parliament (MPs) to enable them travel to remote parts of their constituencies to sensitize their constituent on the rebased currency.

Speaking to ZANIS in an interview, Milanzi Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) Member of Parliament (MP) Whiteson Banda said it was not easy for Members of Parliament to cover remotest parts of their constituencies because of financial constraints.

Mr. Banda said he had traveled to his constituency to sensitise his electorates but could not cover the whole area because he was using personal funds.

He said many people in his constituency have embraced the new currency but added that there was need for more sensitization on the matter.

Meanwhile, MMD Mangango MP Robert Chiseke Taundi disclosed that some people in his constituency still did not understand the rebased currency.

Mr. Taundi said not much sensitization had been done by the Bank of Zambia in his area and that many people lacked knowledge on the new currency.

He explained that some people, especially the aged, were finding it difficult to relate values of the new currency to the old ones.

He reiterated the call for funds to be allocated to parliamentarians to enable them travel to their areas and actively participate in sensitizing people.

  1. Iwe Banda, you are more ignorant than the people u intend to sensitize, you were just a fuel attendant b4 being sent to parl. just shut up and enjoy the goodies at parl motel

  2. Surely, Our MP’s still need more money to reach their Constituencies because they are currently using personal funds……..

  3. These chaps during campaigns they reached every square millimeter of their constituency, when it comes to work they need more money!! They do get allowances for every sitting whats this they are saying?? One thing i know all MPs have camped in LSK & hardly visit their constituencies

    • Wandepula. KEKEKEKEKEKE. ati (Sq mm), yaba. I like this one. If they stay in their constituencies theycan easly access their electorate, but they opt to camp at the ‘slaughter house’

  4. You mean giving more money to Nchanga MP Simuusa, which remote areas is he going to visit when he has even failed to visit the street in lives in. When will people stand up and fight for geniune cause. Nchanga residents must pass a vote of no confidence in Simuusa coz he has failed us.

  5. Iwe Banda, osa ti ku konda ndalama zatu, THAT’S THE REASON PARLIAMENT GIVES YOU ALLOWANCES!! GET YOUR PARTY TO GIVE YOU ADDITIONAL MONEY, NO MORE TAX-PAYERS MONEY!! IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY, QUITTTTTT!!!!

  6. atase iwe kaBanda, who told you that sensitization of currency re-basing is for the respective MPs? leave it to BOZ & responsible ministry ala…..imwe apaliponse kalilo….wailasha mambala! this is not MMD era mwana where u used to swim in tax payers money…..nomba natukwata kateka uwaba serious!!

  7. Why should the gorvernment give them money for such they have councillors why cant they cordinate the sensitisation programs through their local authoritie, this is just pure lack of management skills. If the president talks of devolving the gorverance system to shorten the distances through creation of districts you insult him and yet you say the distances are too long from urban centres do we people really know what we want or its politics first and everything else later. Mr banda should learn to use the structure that the MMD boasted of at grassroot to deseminate the information it does not take the whole MP to go round the constituence he is the MP and not the branch chairman or councillor. leadership skills bwana.

  8. One central club you are right.PF in nchanga is doing nothing and it must get ready now to leave this seat. The MP’s office & street is the one with lots of small road rivers.am sick and tired of the so called simuusa.
Ukwa please drop this man as minister.

  9. The problem with these MP’s is that they will need more money to pay or entertain their party cadres. I am sure they can do with what they have.

  10. MPs do not need more money to reach all parts of your constituencies. That can only be said by one who is failing to represent his people effectively. Count the cost before you tell lies to Zambians.

  11. The word sacrifice does not exist in the limited vocabulary of MP’s (Zambia included). This specimen have always been caught with their snouts in the money trough. Very few of them do sacrifice for their consitituents, but a vast majority are their for what is in it for them. I believe with the current pay and allowances, a Zambian MP if really wanted to can travel to the furtherest corner of Zambia and visit their constituencies. But nay! They want money. I thought their claim when canvassing for our votes was that they wanted to serve the people? Why cant they accept that in that comes spending their own money at times?

  12. You MPs you just need money, you dont even go there you just stay in Hotels, actually that money should give to the coucilors and other educators not MPS. Tell me where do you get money during bye and general Elections which enable you to reach those area? Actually some of these MPs they have never being in there places since they were elected. am sorry to say these. You MPs you need to learn Local languages and not just to go to privite schools, like W. Kabimba

  13. Firstly, thinking that the MP will individually manage to cover the entire constituency is a fallacy! What Banda needs to do is to think of a strategy that will cover his area efficiently without him traversing his entire constituency. Why don’t he uses his Councillors? let him hold one small meeting to plan on how the messages will be formatted and how they should be delivered.

  14. WTF – why does an MP have to do sensitization work himself? Surely there are line ministries and others with that kind of responsibility. Better for the “honourable” minister would be to ensure these departments are adequately funded than to try and get more money to the pleasure of his own activities.

And anyway…… if he really thinks 1-2 trips in his 4×4 to the most remote location will somehow mean the people are now “sensitized”, probably he shouldn’t be in government to begin with!

  15. foolishness..they are constituency offices for mps in ur constituencies qwhich are always empty cos u all choose to be in lusaka even whenparliament is not in session…ur constituencies have to postpone CDF meetings becos of u..or make decisions in ur absense!! i suggest pipo shud now open their eyes and vote for locals as mps..no money for these jokers..stick to ur budget

  16. on a serious note i dont see the need to have MPS, who do they represent in parly their pockets and intrests. they are just a bunch who retard national development in the name of honourable MP. Believe me govt can operate better without those hungry wolfs why are they ever complaining about not getting enough money when they dont pay tax duty free beer, free accomodation and food at parly motel, duty free vehicles on loan, salaries, sitting allowances plus a hefty gratuity for dosing and fighting each other in parly.

  17. ukaziputa limba, “Whiteson Banda said it was not easy for Members of Parliament to cover remotest parts of their constituencies because of financial constraints.” why cheat if you don’t have money to go round your constituency. leave that job for people like GBM, myself and other well to do to become MPs not iwe bapususu ala

  18. Finally, you want social and living proof that the machine actually does what it does. You want to hear good and bad things about it to get a better view on what to buy.
