Several houses have collapsed in Mumbwa’s Nangoma area leaving 1600 households homeless after heavy rains.
Mumbwa District Commissioner Sunday Shamabanse disclosed the calamity in an interview with ZANIS in Mumbwa yesterday.
Mr Shamabanse said the incidence happened on Tuesday evening following a heavy downpour which also left several fields of crops flooded and many household properties worth thousands of kwacha destroyed.
The District Commissioner has since described the incident as disastrous saying it requires urgent government intervention.
He said Myoye Dam has also collapsed while roads, including those leading to Senior Chief Shakumbila and Chief Kaindu’s palaces have become impassable.
Mr Shamabanse expressed worry that if the heavy downpour continues for 10 or more days, as indicated by the Meteorological department, then there will be serious disaster in the district.
And Mr Shamabanse has expressed concern over the delay by Nyiombo Investments to distribute the much awaited top-dressing fertilizer (Urea).
He complained that to date, farmers in the district have not yet received Urea, a situation he said will affect the yield.

Sorry for our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers etc who have been left homeless bcoz of that natural disaster. I know God is in control. On the fertilizer distribution delay, am suprised that the DC is putting the blame on the distributing company bcoz i thought that is a responsibilty of every reasonable government to ensure that its people receive inputs on time. Why blame someone we never voted for? I think HH is right in criticising the government on farm input, in february a DC is blaming the transporter on farm inputs! only in PF.
elo ni chama nyazi farming fertilizer lilya imfula yilelaya!!iyo PF uku sensela lilya kawa!shame shame shame..too bad for the families..ee zed wat is happening accidents floods..army worms ni ma plague?!
nyiombo was given tenders by the pf govt..we blame you all in govt..bunch of liars..
Mumbwa District Commissioner Sunday Shamabanse Akalufumo nishani?
we have become so sinful and pagan mind that whatever happens is satanic so let one say so because it seems every evil, natural disaster is satanism. you are giving the devil too much power and devils use fear to conquer humans
What a disaster! May God give wisdom to the leaders in the District and see how best they can mitigate the loss
What would be most important is to investigate ways of ensuring this doesn’t happen again. This is the simple fact we fail at year in and year out… put on your thinking caps as in for real!
my God my God, please help us in our land
my God!??? leave God out of this. DC should have consulted the office of vice president , disaster mitigation team and offer help to the citizen. Obama cancelled his campaign and went to see and help sandy storm affected., its the duty of gov’t to help the suffering national and intervene on matters affecting its citizen. who Voted for PF zambians , happy with its performance 1.5yrs in office NO!we got it wrong, corruption, mealie meal, policing, health, education mostly they rate under 50%.our future , our destiny is in our hands. leave GOD alone and do ur duties wisely as citizens.
MY GOD!! bla! bla! do u think u have more faith than nations, yet u r the poorest??its our voting system, recycling people, tribalistic, voting one’s tribe even if htey have poor truck record from UNIP, MMD, PF still the same people ruling, leaving the same legacy. GOD wont come down to save zambia, we jst need to be honest and faithful to ourselves and vote for the sake of ZAmbia.
The District Commissioner Belly caused the collapses
And where is Chola Boyi?I really do not understand why my hubby has kept him so long on his job, people are suffering his department is supposed to provide emergency shelter but he’s busy telling lies in Livingstone.he’s lucky because babwana is too sick at the moment to make any decisions and his bosses Fred and Burden Nchito seem to be planning other leadership takeover. They have lost hope in my hubby recovering .Things are not good mwandini.
The issue is 1600 households are out in the open, what is being done for them!?!?! I agree with Bryson, where is the DMMU you speak of flooding where are those people being sheltered sir?And stop blaming Miombo, blame yourselves, at the end of the day it is your responsibility to supply the product on time, so you as GRZ have failed not Miombo.
Office of VP disaster mgt whats being done, any food, shelter, clean water and medicines being provided? Do we need to donate or any volunteers needed?. Tell us what is being done and not how it happened.
