Ruling Patriotic front candidate Gabriel Namulambe is headed for re-election in the Mpongwe by elections.
Out of the 39 polling station counted so far, Mr. Namulambe has taken a comfortable lead with results from 9 polling stations remaining to be counted.
Provisional results indicate that the PF candidate has so far amassed 4, 167 votes while his closest rival Rabson Chilufya of the UPND has polled 2, 699.
Mpongwe has 48 polling stations but the contest is between the two front runners.
Other candidates are MMD’s Miniver Mutesa who has polled 815 while Reagan Ndhlovu of NAREP has only managed 554 votes.
Kenny Kuveya of UNIP is trailing behind with 95 votes.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is this morning expected to announce official results.

We will petition these results. PF should not even cheat themselves that they have won after Namulambe sent PF cadres to intimidate everyone including burning Chilfya’s house. The police coudn’t go and help the villagers retrieve their voter’s cards from Namulambe which he used to rig the elction. We are very much aware of the violence that intimidated our people. Two cars belonging to UPND were destroyed by PF and the police were very unprofessional in that they were very partisan. They mounted a road block so that genuine voters should not participate and allow for rigging.
PF development! Let more MPs resign so that more areas be developed. I say so because our president is only developing areas there are by- elections through rallies. You will hear him order roads development to make a road from some place to another area at a rally. Somebody help what do you call this?…

This has not gone unnoticed by the PF judging from the increased harassment been meted out on the UPND rank and file including been framed for murder. Its a pity we have lost so much money through this unnecessary by election. If I were a mpongwe resident I wouldn’t have voted for Namulambe for causing this by election which is a drain on the national resources. His reason for causing this by election was that he wanted to bring development to mpongwe which he cant do in opposition. My problem is this man was once in the ruling party, and did not do much. The guys he is joining were in opposition for ten years and did not cross like him. People lets us be realistic…. Its a pity for our Nation…..

I am surprised UPND scooped such a big number of votes in an area I thought was a PF/MMD stronghold. What does this tell you? Lets analyse these numbers as well.

UPND almost doubled its numbers…over 1200 voters from 2011
Nutshell – lower turn out. Those who did mostly voted PF and UPND made some gains. Either UPND chipped vote share from the other two or gained votes which dented PF but eliminated MMD. I don’t know. Not a statistician. My guess would be MMD lost out big this time if only judged by numbers. The voters who stayed away are the ones who will decide in 2016. Even little NAREP if it won their hearts could take this seat. I’m sure all strategists are looking at the figures.

MMD lost just under 90% – I was looking at a turnout of just over 10% of their vote and reversing it.

Mu-Zambia you are truly a demented UPND supporter! Voter turn out was very poor for this election because of disoriented MMD members under the mismanagement of Nevers Sekwila Mumba. These voters will most likely vote PF in 2016 than UPND. The confusion in MMD will reshape the political landscape with gains by both PF & UPND, however, in most areas of the Copperblet, PF will gain. This is a genuine analysis not UPND hot air!
@MundiaM, You cannot dismiss UPND performance on account of poor voter turnout. You might as well dismiss the PF win as hollow because the same poor voter turnout affected the PF. Namulambe got fever votes than he got in 2011. And since this is the case ; he would still have gotten fewer votes if the turnout was higher because most of the people who didnt turnout are the ones who voted for him last time and presumably they are fed up with him! . In terms of votes gained the UPND has almost double its votes compared to 2011. Both Namulambe and MMD have lost votes. These are simple statistics . There’s no need for biased opinions.
Ruling parties will continue winning in rural areas because of poverty. Just give those fellas sugar and you have their votes. For me, its not anything to get excited about.
But PF has the support two most developed areas urban in Zambia Lusaka and CB.so I do not know what you are talking about , so in your thinking PF is slowly winning the support of all Zambian being in rural areas or urban.
