President Michael Sata will this Saturday, March 30, 2013 officiate at the ground- breaking ceremony marking the commencement of the construction of the 91 kilometres Luangwa Bridge – Feira Road project.

The District road coded D145 is a strategic route linking Luangwa Boma (Feira) from the Trunk road, Great East Road (T4).

This part of the project includes the portion of road between Luangwa Bridge and Luangwa Boma. The project starts from Great East Road (T4) at Luangwa Bridge and ends at Luangwa Boma covering an approximate distance of 91 kilometres.

The project, which is anticipated to be implemented within a period of 24 months, involves the construction of the existing gravel road to bituminous standard and the scope of work will include among other things:

  • Bush clearing and grubbing
    Road preparation
    Construction of pavement layers
Construction of culverts and open drains
    Road furniture installation and;
    Provision of road markings

Once completed, this road will provide a shorter route to Zimbabwe and Mozambique from T4 through Luangwa from Lusaka. The construction of this road will promote economic activities in this area such as tourism, fishing and agriculture by facilitating the easy movement of farm inputs and products for both commercial and small scale farmers living in this area.

The completion of this road project is also expected to enhance trade with our two neighbours Zimbabwe and Mozambique from this part of our country.

In addition, the construction of this road will also attract investment into the area, thereby; reducing poverty among the local people and the delivery of services for school and health facilities will as well greatly improve after the completion of this road project.

This road project will create jobs for local people and small Zambian contractors who will be engaged as sub-contractors by the main contractors.

This important road link, which is among the many road projects, fulfils President Sata’s campaign promise and underlines the PF Government’s desire and determination to develop the state of infrastructure in the country predominantly roads as enshrined in the ruling party’s Manifesto. The Luangwa Bridge – Feira Road project is part of a larger programme called LINK ZAMBIA PROJECT.

    • @Nubian Princess you make my day. i think thats the best name for Sata,Bob the builder. My daughter will laugh a lot to that. The guy is always building how good.

    • Looking at the anticipated economic significance of this road, Its best to make it a dual carriage ab initio than looking at expanding it later.

Lets be proud of all projects we do for our country and do great work

  1. Nice to hear that you out and about. This will shame the naysayers. We will rule them for the next 200 years. Viva Sata! Viva Bemba power!

    • YES, BY THE WAY WHY NEGATE YOUR POSITIVE? YOU STARTED WELL AND YOU SPOIL YOUR CONTRIBUTION WITH YOUR TRIBAL ELEMENT. THIS TO ME APPEARS LIKE YOU ARE NOT EVEN A BEMBA- YOU ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN CROSSING PEOPLE.

    • Please!! This tribal nonsense is rather becoming boring, for ‘God sake’ lets focus on the worth while issues to help the citizens of our beautiful mother Zambia, One Zambia One Nation ‘Tiyende Pamodzi’

    • Its true these guys doing such tribal comments are not even Bembas, Tongas, or Lozis, they just want to confuse people….to hell with your post chi colour.

  2. I hope he wont die in the hot sun of Luangwa. Anyway Iam sure they’ve stuffed him with his medicines and the tube. Plus the helicopter will surely be on standby, engine running throughout.

    • Doctors prescription:

Carry 210 L drum for urine, urine bag not sufficient considering distance between Lusaka and Luangwa.

  3. Roads are the backbone of development and the PF and Sat are doing a very good job indeed.Let us support them and ensure that our country moves forward. The hungry heyna (HH) and Never Mumbwe have no idea of what development mean and are hell bent on misleading the public with their daily songs of PF failing!!Shame on HH an NM!!

  4. The man in a mirror he seriously wants to work on his promises this LINK ZAMBIA PROJECT will be his most legacy when he leave office, go Sata go Sata go Sata.

  5. For a modern Tonga and Bemba that grew up in urban and went to pre school together then Mpelembe, those tribal overtones by you typical villagers does not make sense. Please let this country move foward. The Bemba and Tonga talk is really neausating.

    • I agree with you my brother or is it sister. The Bemba and Tonga rubish makes me sick. The sooner it stops the better for everyone.

    • IT IS. I HATE IT MYSELF. IT ONLY TELLS PEOPLE THAT THESE TONGA/BEMBA TALKERS ARE SERIOUS VILLAGE BUMPKINS, JUST LIKE THEIR HH.

    • Just shut up ! You are the same maggots including your political leaders and newspapers who have been vilifying HH and his UPND for their none existent tribalism. You have a Bemba supremacist in State House who you treat like a god/

  6. The Govt must ensure that whatever vehicles will be used by HE President Sata must be “self-contained”. Good luck.

  7. Used to enjoy the delicious pan-fried fish sold at Luangwa Bridge when going to and from school back in the day…these articles are not clear so what happens to the existing Luangwa bridge? Is it going to be expanded or replaced… our journalists are getting lazier everyday very soon they will just be submitting photos and we will have to add the captions ourselves.

    • Just before the Bridge if going towards the Eastern province there was a gravel road on your right going to Luangwa Boma (Feira for old timers). That is the road which will be tarred. Bravo PF, if Mr Sata will still be alive in 2016, then they have my vote.

    • Oh right I remember that turn off…if only they could replace the bridge with a modern one able to take traffic both ways not one at a time.
      Thank you for the clarification!!

  8. Congratulations Nevers Mumba and MMD for boycotting Kapiri & Lukulu bye elections. For sure you know very well that you have been beaten hands down by MCS and PF like in 2011 & you have nothing to offer. But Man of God learn to tell the truth not rushing to C/Wealth and blaming PF & Sata that he is bribing opposition MPs. He is just working for people (not bribing them) which you failed to do & made people to believe that Zambia is a poor state, can’t afford any development, infrastructure for its people. The only thing Zambia can afford is to sell all parastals through H H and hand pumping boreholes. Tell truth for your colleagues H H and Sakwiba to also repent and boycott elections because C/Wealth will not usher them into office. Well done PF, bauze that money is plenty in Zambia.

  9. Keep working big man let them keep talking and insulting, thats all they can do.They talk and wish others death as if they will live forever. The more they wish ill-will to you the more blessings you receive.

    • @Rodrik “They talk and wish others death as if they will live forever”. Interesting observation that describes a certain former opposition leader. Its a small world, isn’t?

  10. Mr sata won with a popular vote i dont know what they call something more than a popolar vote. He is really smashing the oposition to pulp. Yes he may be sick and walking his last mile, if thats the case then let his dream of seeing zambia develop come to fruition even after his life, iam sure he is fine and will see most of these projects he is implemention come to completion.

    • IT’S THE HATERS WHO ARE WISHING HIM BAD HEALTH BECAUSE THEY ARE VERY BITTER ABOUT NOT BEING PRESIDENTS. HE WILL SEE HIS PROJECTS THROUGH. JEHOVAH IS THERE FOR HIM

  11. MR President, thank you for coming to our aid because that road for many yeasrs it was never looked at. Let us remain focus for all Zambian people Mr president, thanks and thats why we voted you

  12. iam also impressed by the hard work this Govt putting in . Look right theres development .Look left theres shortage of mealie meal Look center, there’s a bye election. This is great folks.

  13. For 47 years successive governments starting from KK failed to tarr the road linking Chama and the Northern Province. All the people could get were just promises from these leaders during election campaigns. This road is now under construction. Next time I drive to Chama I will drive on a tarred road through Matumbo. What a great feeling that will be! The Luangwa Bridge – Luangwa Boma Road should have been tarred decades ago but nothing happened. Please give credit where it is due. I am happy the way things are going at the moment.

  14. It is sad that some people are celebrating a president for launching a 91km road. People in Zambia should read beyond politics in the local press and see how other African countries are making great strides in development that the West are noticing and stop celebrating mediocre performance by our leaders!

  15. As long as my road to Lukulu is not tarred , Sata can go and hang like KK, Kafupi, Levy and RB before him!

  16. It is interesting to note that RDA is referring to this ceremony as ground breaking rather than commissioning. I also note that there are fewer bloggers during this holiday weekend period, an indication that a lot of bloggers use the office as a source of their internet. The only comforting thing is that this “crime” is not unique to Zambia.

    • It’s so true. Internet cannot be afforded by a lot of people in Zambia never mind the hardware. Just like a good road, rail and air network for fast and efficient transportation, the government should make Internet provision a priority if we are to be seen as a nation serious about facilitating growth. Internet is not only for Facebook, a lot of business transactions are done via Internet.Companies are able to reduce costs via Internet e.g. working from home thereby reducing on office space. Before, one had to travel to far off places to go and buy things like spares but this is no longer necessary all because of Internet, teleconferencing is another thing, no need to fly to Jburg for a meeting because this can be managed in real time via tele or video conferencing or skyping.

  17. A road map would have helped. Some of us do not understand how this road will be a short cut to Zimbabwe.

    • A man from Mars reading this article would think that this a green project, a totally new road. On further reading I have found out using computer language that this road is an upgrade. Using a layman’s language the existing gravel road is being tarred. What is so special about tarring a 91 km road?

  18. If this road is going to link Zambia to two countries, then it is likely to be used by a lot of heavy goods vehicles and I hope they are not constructing a foot path like one connecting Mandevu to Chaisa, it’s time we moved over and started constructing dual carriage ways or motor ways between towns to avoid accidents such as the one in Chibombo. Already Lawrence Evans New MP of Livingstone central is reported to have crushed a baby to death because he drove off the road to avoid traffic all because of narrow roads and a lot of traffic.
