Share

United Party for National Development (UPND) has petitioned the election of PF’s Lawrence Evans as Livingstone Central Member of Parliament.

The UPND filed their petition before the Livingstone High Court today through their lawyers Mwimbu Muleza and Company.

The party has stated in their petition that the campaigns were marred with violence, intimidation and electoral malpractice by the PatrioticFront (PF) members and their agents.

In the petition, the party has also raised the arresting of its top leadership by the police as some of the reasons for their petition.

The UPND have also indicated that the reason for the postponement of the by election by the Electoral Commission of Zambia was as a result of the violence and intimidation.

The party said in their petitioned that it was clear going by the press statement which was released by the ECZ three days before the polls announcing the postponement of the by election that the elections were not free and fair.

According to the petition filed before the Livingstone high court, the UPND is praying that the election of Lawrence Evans as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Livingstone should be nullified due to various reasons stated in the petition.

In their press statement, the ECZ highlighted that the environment to conduct a free and fair election was not conducive hence the postponement.

And UPND Livingstone District spokesperson Neto Halwabala confirmed the development in Livingston today.

Mr. Halwabala said that it was an open secret that the election was not free and fair adding that it is from that perspective that the party resolved to petition.

Mr. Halwabala said that failing to petition the election would have resulted in being unfair to the people of Livingstone who are witnesses to the massive violence and intimidation which was perpetuated by the PF.

And Southern province PF Political Secretary Brain Hapunda says the party welcomes the petition and that this will give a chance for PF to expose UPND.

He said the party will accept the verdict of the court.

  1. I am thrilled to note that the absurdity of the PF Government is being fully exposed in South African news media, such as the eNCA. Ubupuba ne Bushilu bwa ba Sata and his nephews and nieces are being laid bear in the SADC region. The region now knows the extent to which a clique of halfwits has grown in the reign of the Zambian Govt.

  2. What is the meaning of underfive? Why is HH referred to as underfive at his age? One prominent reason could be the way he entered politics. He had no political experience like the likes of HE MC Sata and others. He jumped on the band wagon without experience of political gymnastics which starts from the grassroots. His lack of political experience has been exposed in the way he has kept loosing election and progressively scoring lowerthan previous results. That tag Underfive is yet to be shade off. Without his money no one would have been following him. Charisma, hehehehe you can not match the experienced Sata. Bufi.

  3. What will UPND tell the court about their MAPATIZYA FORMULA? Violence was by all parties….

  4. There was no need then to willingly concede defeat in the first place. After conceding UPND said the loss in Livingstone was a minor setback, the party was going to reorganize itself. Ofcourse UPND has all the rights to petition the results at any time they want, but questionable is the logic behind.

  5. @Namona, my sentiment exactly, then they should have said we will petion the elections instead of condeing and uteering words like it is a minor setback we will reorganize ourselves, me thinks it is just the way to make Larry Fail because they have seen that Livingstone is now on track for massive development , The new market, roads,Intercity bus station and sooner a new stadium all these things have never happened when there was a UPND MP Sakwiba or ULP MP Sakwiba … For once let the Livingstonians themselves think above tribal or regional lines and reject the machinations of this UNDER-FIVE Party for Regional Dummies – UPRD

  6. YOU STILL HAVE KAPIRI AND LUKULU BY ELECTIONS TO PROVE IF YOU ARE POPULAR. BUT AS I SEE IT. AWE MWANDI. WITH YOUR SUPPORT FOR RB WHICH HAS FURTHER DENTED YOUR REPUTATION. THE PF WILL WALLOP YOU PANTS DOWN.
