Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) director general Rosewin Wandi says the fight against corruption drive has gained momentum in the last two years as seen from the number of graft cases being reported to the commission.

Ms Wandi said yesterday that the ACC is so far investigating 759 cases of corruption, which she said was a sign of good work given the limited number of manpower under the commission.

She said 19 of the cases under investigation are those reported in the 2011 auditor general’s report.

ZANIS reports that the ACC Director General said this at Solwezi Royal Hotel yesterday.

This was during a one day meeting organised to exchange ideas on how to effectively fight corruption, attended by ACC officers, provincial government heads of departments and representatives of the private sector.

She cited the Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012 as among the factors that have given impetus to the fight against corruption as it allows the ACC to investigate and confiscate proceeds of crime and any unexplained property.

She also attributed the increased momentum in fighting corruption to the national anti corruption policy.

She said the anti-corruption policy provides for all law enforcement agencies to work in partnership, unlike in the past when these agencies worked in isolation.

Ms Wandi said with this approach corruption in the country is now being fought in a comprehensive, extensive and sustainable manner.

Earlier North Western Province permanent secretary Augustine Seyuba said there has been serious compromises in standards of transparency and accountability within government in the province leading to high levels of corruption.

Mr Seyuba said North Western has seen an increase in economic activities which has led to a huge demand for goods and services.

He said following many people interacting in procurement of these services and goods, a tendency of corruption has risen proportionally.

He said the provincial administration has declared zero tolerance against corruption, the resolve which has made the administration unpopular among corrupt people.

  1. which momentum of pardoning GBM and Kabimba,of seeking permission from Sata before investigating his minions, your organisation is toothless and useless

    • @0fca5f63655e9ba224ad0851ef16f740:disqus .. i think she is talking about the momentum of pardoning, not only red lips kabimba and GBM.. and all those with court cases who have left MMD or other parties and joined PF

  2. This old woman is shameless. How does she embarrass herself in this manner? She is a disgrace to honorable women leaders in this country. Ms Wandi, when you leave ACC and for sure you will, what will you be remembered for in this country?. Of course, as a toothless corrupt woman of no substance.Your clearing of Kabimba and GBM will haunt you for the rest of your life and the time will come when you will be punished for that.

  3. This woman should be ashamed to speak in public praising the ACC for fighting graft in Zambia. The only graft fought is that selected by Sata or against perceived enemies of Sata and M’membe’s cohort. The image of the ACC, being “toothless” will only improve when this commission successful investigates and bring to book a sitting member of the ruling class. Not one who is being “taught” a lesson for falling out with them. Kabimba, GBM were opportunities for this woman but she grew cold feet when her appointing authority raised his eyebrows.
Half of this PF leadership will become everyday names at the ACC soon after a change of a govt with, then head of ACC claiming to have “gained momentum of the fight against graft”. Just like the current situation and the label of persecuting former leaders will also gain momentum.

  4. what momentum mayo?? You only concentrating on the weak and poor in society to increase the number of prosecuted cases, while the rich and the ruling party connected, who are REALLY stealing from govt, money meant for the poor and national development go scot free. I hope history will judges you harshly

  5. As the ZRL Board Vs Management squabbles were going on ZRL failed to mobilize graders and bull dozers to clear illegal strucutres along the rail line between Kamwala
and Lilayi. As I blog a family this morning was moving into a newly built new house within the 50m railway strip reserve……..and everybody is quiete until a train derails and ploughs into thee houses..

  6. Graft fight has gained momentum? How come the chap who stole the global fund (refunded to the donors using tax payer) is still enjoying his freedom in exchange for testifying against Kapoko and standing as MMD mp Monze central in 2011?

  7. What momentum when you say that you are toothless against Mutembo Nchito? Are you not even embarrassed to make such a statement?

  8. Ms Wandi, please start with TENDER FRAUD at RDA, Local Govt, Education, Health and Works and Supply. I hinted to you how corruption has become institutionalised with the deliberate system of tenders closing on Friday afternoons so that the corrupt govt offcials find time to doctor the tender submissions on Friday night and the weekend. Bidders should be encouraged to submit copies of their bid docs to ACC just before they drop the originals into the tender boxes, and you’ll be shocked at the lies in the tender evaluation reports in which some companies are falsely accused of not having submitted one compliance document or another, just to favour their own partners in crime. You’ll have alot of Chimbokaila candidates if you carried out such an audit, thanks.

  10. Absolute non-sense. The only graft you are fighting, is the one which your masters allow you to fight. Let us see:
Final Report on the findings of the Commission of Enquiry in to operations of ZRA?
Allegations against Hon. Minister of Justice?
    Nchito and his gang?
    ZDA?
    ZRA?
    RDA? …………………….
Whilst abowe items contain allegations involving BILLIONS of KR, your office is wasting our money in prosecuting corruption involving few hundreds KR.

Please, put your act together and go against real plunderers of National wealth, even if they have switched political allegiance.

Ops, I almost forgot, you need first to obtain permission of His Excellency The President? Well, you can always ask for His permission. Can you?
