Opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) Leader Nevers Mumba has said that there is need for government to concentrate on service delivery than only making rhetorical promises in public speeches.

Dr Mumba told Qfm in an interview that this year’s Labor Day should have been an opportunity to review the promises that President Sata made to the Zambian people and not to spend it on taking about who attended the commemoration and who did not.

Dr Mumba noted that Zambians are interested in seeing that the Mealie meal prices are reduced and the cost of fuel considered in the government’s quest to reduce the cost of living for Zambians.

And the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) said that it shunned the Labour Day celebrations because it was not invited by the Patriotic Front (PF) government to be part of the commemorations.

This follows condemnations drawn from some trade unions in the country who have described the absence of opposition political parties at the commemoration as retrogressive as the event was meant for all workers regardless of their political affiliation.

UPND Deputy Secretary General, Kuchunga Simusamba, said that if the UPND was invited it would have joined other people in the commemorations.

He has appealed to the government not to be ignoring the opposition parties in commemorating such important events.

    • Please try to read what Nevers Mumba said. The event had no meaning because the president could not even deliver an inspiring speech. It is better to engage in progressive activities rather than attending celebrations that the ruling party itself fails to attach value to. You just need to read the speech Sata gave for you to appreciate that the event was not worth attending. But obviously if you are a PF cadre, everything they do and say is of value to you. You lack objectivity. So dont blame Nevers and HH for not allowing themselves to be part of meaningless celebrations when they had more important matters to attend to.

    • Did Sata attend Labour Day events when he was in the opposition. If the opposition had attempted to be in attendance they may probably would have been accused of being a threat to Sata’s security. Zebige, you live in a country of civilized politics. Our country is different.

    • The name HH makes you and your clan’s bowels weak. You just can’t stand him. If God has annointed him as the next, no fool like you can change it. Get it righ, he has a lot of following and he’s gaining momentum. That a bitter pill for tribalist s like you.

  1. Iwe chi zebige uli chi sushi sana, what is there to celebrate when people are out of employment when your godfather has only employed his relatives and post workers.Calm down boy.

  2. bonse imwe mulibalwele starting from the head of state up to the kaponyas pa intercity i don’t see anyone normal pa zambia these days. laziness will kill this country, ati christian nation to hell!!

  3. Joyce Nonde Simukoko, it is good that she remembered that sata never attended such events when he was in opposition. What has changed now? Do unto others as you want them do unto you.

  4. Nevers is very correct. Labour Day should about reviewing the several promises Mr. Sata made to the Zambian workers and not talking about HH or Nevers. This is what happens when you have someone that does not know what he is doing. The truth of the matter is Mr. Sata wanted to president to prove the late Chiluba and other critics wrong. It was never about improving the lives of Zambians this why things are going wrong and the man is quiet. On top that he increases his salary and begins building himself a retirement home while in office. Is been a President a Job or a Service? Its wrong for a president to do demand such things especially when he has not done a good job even worse know what he is doing.

  5. mwe bloggers bambi muli matole sana. Can’t you see that people today have been protesting worldwide due to unemployment level? am not a pf supporter but don’t i think pf will create jobs for all Zambian’s in the few months in power, Look at america Obama is still struggling with the some issue of unemployment and this his second term. so when you yap you should look at the facts. Pf also should always be telling the people what you can achieve and what you can’t in three month. I have hope that Sata is taking Zambia in a right direction.

    • PF promised to create jobs and put more money in people’s pockets in 90 days. Obama did not. People are demanding what they were promised. That is all

  6. The Zambian style of politics has overstayed its welcome. It appears the political scene has been overtaken by events. We are even learning that invitations were not sent out but attacks were dispatched instead. Eish! What a confused piece of earth!!

  7. Absolutely Pastor Mumba, let us not descend into rhetorical dichotomy. I think you added more value by staying away than becoming ‘sitting ducks’.

  8. It is better the opposition never attend PF Comedy of events! We need peace. PF thugs find it befitting to harass and redicule the opposition fugures. Why should the Opposition be the subject of embarassment the way KK is being? Bravo opposition for your foresight and good reasoning!

  9. Mr Sata needs a lot of help, did he ever attend any national celebrations when he was opposition leader?

  10. I THINK ATTENDING SUCH EVENTS IMPLIES YOUR SOLIDALITY WITH THE CAUSE OF THE SUFFERING LABORERS. NOT THE PF. YES, SATA MAY HAVE SHUNNED THESE EVENTS AND SHAME ON HIM. BUT IF HH AND MUMBA WANT TO SHOW US A DIFFERENT WAY OF PRACTICING POLITICS THEY SHOULD NOT BEHAVE THE WAY SATA DID. THIS ONLY GOES TO SHOW THAT THEY TOO WILL NOT BRING ANYTHING NEW TO THE POLITICAL BALL GAME. AND SOME OF THESE PARTIES LIKE MMD WHICH ARE ALREADY DEAD COULD HAVE SHOWN SOMETHING TO THE SIMILITUDE OF LIFE BY TAKING PART. ANYWAY, WE DO NOT NEED OR MISS THEM. REMEMBER, WHATEVER WORKED IN FAVOUR OF SATA WHILE IN OPPOSITION WILL NOT ALWAYS WORK FOR THE CURRENT OPPOSITION. IF ANYTHING IT WILL ONLY WORK TO THEIR UNDOING. SATA HAD HIS OWN TACTICS AND TRICKS.
