ACC concludes questioning dissolved Board members of Zambia Railways

Share

THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has concluded questioning dissolved Board members of Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL), former Board vice chairperson Oliver Saasa has confirmed.

Professor Saasa said similarly the Office of the Auditor General had conducted similar questioning on the Board members and was availed with the relevant information.

The ACC and the Auditor General’s office had commenced investigations on corruption allegations against the dissolved Board members and suspended chief executive officer, Clive Chirwa.

This followed President Michael Sata’s directive to the ACC to probe the happenings at ZRL following differences between the then Board led by Mark Chona and Prof Chirwa.

Prof Saasa said the ACC was expected to conclude its findings within the next two weeks as it probes the institution’s management over allegations of corruption.

He said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that it was also important that all members including suspended CEO, Clive Chirwa, who was reported to have attempted to leave the country without clearance, were available for questioning over the allegations of corruption.

“The ACC has concluded questioning the former Board members and I was informed that investigations will be concluded within the next two weeks and it was our desire as Board members then, that the probe be instituted because of the irregularities that had befallen the institution,” Prof Saasa said.

    • No he isn’t! He was asked questions by an interested journalist on whether the Board had been interviewed by the ACC and he answered them. So where exactly is the problem?

    • No I am not. I just happen to be very literate and intelligent . By the way MB, how far did you go in school? Read the article again or ask someone to read for you and interpret it for you! The man was interviewed!

    • Goncalves more than your whole family put together! And you which year did you drop out? Are you a Mensa (like me) to be so intelligent! Prof Saasa like everyone else must shut up and wait live everyone else! At least the suspended MD is keeping quiet like the former Chairman of the board. This is exactly how every board member of any SOE should conduct themselves! So let all and sundry (including you and me) wait until the forensic audit is concluded!

    • Uuuum my Whole family? I wish you knew. I am happy that some journalists are doing a good job. Its nice to know through Dr Saasa’s interview that the ACC is working on this case. I await to hear that Dr Chirwa went through the same process! By the way it is called transparency!

  1. ACC is like a black box. We never get to read their findings. I know someone will say “walk over and pick up the report.” Whatever happened to technology and the portable format of documents? Bring out the findings so that all and sundry can read and form their own opinions. Next we will hear “cleared” or “charged”, etc…

    • Ee, there are only two verdicts, cleared or charged. whatelse if one was under investigations? You wanted to hear draw like in football?

    • Iwe Chindakwanda Galileo-Galilei, why do you now have goal-line technology now? Isn’t because spectators and interested parties wanted to have the veracity of that score??? I know it takes all kinds of people – there are those of us who want to be informed; that is how we ensure there is equity in society… It is small wonder most of you don’t see the blatant contradictions going on.

  2. PRO OSAASA,YOU FORGET CORPARATE GOVERNANCE JUST TOO SOON?IF MAN CAN NOT HELP MR CHIRWA IN THIS CASE,THEN NATURAL JUSTICE WILL DO.

  3. Prof Saasa, and fellow board members, let the vacancy be advertised to Zambian professionals, and get the best Zambian with a proven track record of transforming parastatals in Zambia. You guys must be cleverer than this, aint you?

  4. When will you finish questioning Clive??? Could you please do it ASAP so that he can be free to travel – we are eagerly waiting for him to join us for a barbecue & cool beers as our British summer gets to full swing!!!

  5. ACC’s public relations stinks! They keep us in the dark all the time. And this shameless prof takes it upon himself to be the spokesperson of ACC!! Shame

  6. Anyone hindering development for personal gains and @ the expense of we the people should be dealt with.NI FINANI?….

  7. Ba Saasa is trying to pre empt the outcome. Chill and wait for the vedict. The fact is that board will not bounce back but Clive Chirwa may bounce back with a mere caution and adjustments to his conditions of service

    • Goncalves you are still repeating yourself! Please give us facts not your opinion!
      Note to Editor
Is there a way of censoring some people on this blog? Please blackout Goncalves as he is becoming monotonous!

    • @Goncalves, your Osaasa is just wide mouthed; he even knows that the investigtions will be completed in two weeks! And you defend that he was just asked? I agree with MB, if you have nothing to say, go to sleep.

  8. At least the GJIT releases updates but why not involve them in this widely publicised case? Otherwise Oliver is not wrong to respond to an interview intended to keep us abreast. We have heard it hapenning on several instances in RB’s cases.

  9. By the way, can the ACC investigate the President or he is above ‘corrupt practices’?
Come to think of it, can Ministers be investigated by the ACC?
Is the ACC an independent executive body and if so on what institutional basis?
