Mweene scores for Free State Stars

Kennedy Mweene scores a penalty to help Free State Stars cement an eighth place finish in the South Africa PSL.

The Zambia number one goalkeeper converted a 40th minute penalty on May 18 to equalise for Free State in their home game against relegated and bottom placed Black Leopards to see the two teams go 1-1 into the break.

Free State Stars went beat Leopards 3-2 thanks to goals from Dove Wome and Anver Esterhuizen to see the Bethlehem side finish the 2012/2013 season in seventh position.

Meanwhile, Mweene will miss Zambia’s 2014 World cup Group D qualifier against Lesotho on June 8 in Ndola due to suspension after he was red carded in teh first leg that ended 1-1 in Maseru on March 24.

He is due to return for Zambia’s second Group D home game against Sudan on June 15 at the same venue.

  1. Did Davy Kaumbwa or Danny Munyau score too? I think ka Davy can score penalty as well, he is kind of intelligent.
Danny Munyau is even better than Mweene, but he is too humble, maybe inferior complex. Thats what finished Banda of Zesco.
Muchelenganga just like his name, umwaiche amachinchi, when he catches the ball, he wants to roll over 3 times. When he is about to freekick, first bauma ama sboot mu chi goal-post mbambamba, then everybody expecting that he is aiming to top striker…. ala mukwai… just a shot pass to no.2. But Davies Phiri used to do such too. Davies was good mwee, thats why he is the best choice for goalie coach for Chipolopolo (I don’t like that name Chipo…)

    • Do b funny! uli mutundunshi? close yo ears pakubelenga, limbi kuti chayafwilisha. But i think yo feeling is right….fintu fimo….some names!

  2. There are times when I feel Mweene should probably be transformed into a striker. I think he’s becoming a liability in goal. These he hardly keeps a clean sheet. Of course his Free State side has a very porous defence, but it is such situations that bring out the best out of goalkeepers in most cases. Chipolopolo must seriously and vigorously start searching for his replacement, coz Mweene is slowly becoming a goalGIVER!
