Luangwa District conflict management committee has banned the opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) from using former President Rupiah Banda’s campaign materials.

The conflict management committee chaired by Lameck Mvula made a ruling.

Patriotic Front PF elections committee member Bonnie Tembo had argued that it is against the benefits of the President Act number 15 which forbids former Presidents from participating in active politics to continue using material bearing Mr Banda’s portrait.

Mr. Tembo says it is unfortunate that MMD has continued dragging Mr Banda into active politics when he has retired.

He has advised MMD Leader Nevers Mumba to stop riding on 2011 expired party regalia.

Meanwhile, MMD Councilor for Kaunga Ward in Luangwa, Patrick Tembo has agreed with the ruling noting that there are a lot of campaign materials bearing Dr Mumba’s portrait.

    • Its musbe made clear that Rupiah never retired but was defeated. We will consider a president to have retired if they serve two 5year terms, or die in office, or at the end of the first term, do not seek re-election.

Rupiah sought re-election and was defeated. He was actually fired from his job.

Unless the meaning of retiring has changed, the we must consider all fired employess has having been retired and hence entitled to full retirement benefits.

We must therefore revisit the provisions of the presidential retirement Act and amnd it accordingly

    • Please, do not expose you ignorance. RB was defeated in the republican presidential race but he retired from the party (MMD) presidency and thus from politics. You can never be defeated out of politics. It’s a choice you make whether you shall be taking sides in the political affairs of the nation.

    • Simple, I thought this is very simple. Ruphia’s popularity has been growing by the day more than the incumbent MMD president Nevers, and floating his portrait will give MMD an added advantage. This is so because people are comparing life during Ruphia’s reign and the way things are now.

  1. MMD is very broke, those regalia were printed long way back when RB was in power. MMd is feeling it in opposition, with the addition of Nevers Mumba fili ekotuleya

  2. When Bonnie Tembo came on the scene as AVAP executive director, I was made to believe that he was a well meaning Zambian. I cannot hide my disappointment now to realize that he is nothing but a cheap-minded, crooked opportunist who is ready to go to bed with anybody or anything that can give him money. I want to remind him that we have had fellows like ZIMT Zulu and NOCE Zulu who used to behave exactly the way he is behaving, They all had tragic endings.

  3. Silent One dont b rubish, how can u enquire Bonie Tembo’s afiliation?Evn u can join a party of yr choice as longas u retire any task tht may compromise yr execution of task in ths case Bonie retired frm AVAP.So where is yr problm?Think beyond yr nose u chap!

    • I find it extremely difficult to make a response to your comments. Your language and its tone sound like you spend most of your time in kachasu shebeens. Yes, Bonnie has a right to belong to any political party of his choice. But I have a problem with him when he does so with a sole aim of benefiting from the philosophy of politics of the belly. Yes, I have a problem with him because I am a tax payer who wants his money to be properly utilized.
