The opposition MMD in the Eastern province has described the nullification of Maxwell Mwale as Member of Parliament for Malambo constituency as regrettable.Provincial Chairperson Alexander Miti told ZANIS in an interview that the loss of the Malambo parliamentary seat was a big blow as MMD has lost one of the most hardworking and vibrant MPs in the province.

Mr Miti said that Mr Mwale was reliable, dependable and contributed positively not only to his constituency but to party and the development of the country. He said that there was nothing that the former ruling party can do since the nullification of the seat by the high court was upheld by the Supreme Court and the decision should be respected.

He however charged that the country would continue losing huge amounts of money on by-elections which he claimed were triggered by the ruling PF.
Mr Miti said the by-elections were a serious cost to the national treasury saying the money spent on by-elections since the 2011 tripartite elections could have been used on developmental projects. He charged that the PF wanted to divert people’s attention from developmental programmes to politics.

Mr Miti said people were tired of by-elections that were being held due to petitions saying a lot of money was being wasted on by-elections although he noted that this was a constitutional issue.

He however hoped that the new constitution would bar people who ditched their political parties from contesting in any election.

The Supreme Court yesterday upheld a high court ruling to nullify the Malambo parliamentary seat on grounds of election malpractice.

  1. we are not bothered. Elections are in the constitution. When MP seat falls vacant due to death, resignation, incapacitation, expulsion etc, elections should be called with 90 days.

  2. That highly corrupt Maxwell Mwale is the man they want to keep, what is the problem with Zambians, how they love thieves for MPs.

    • Imagine that…ati he was reliable and dependable…c’mon the chap was very corrupt and played around with national resources like they were his own.

Also we understand how by-elections have become a drain on national resources but that does not justify keeping corrupt people in their seats

  3. Typical Zambia, still receding. Elections are order of the day because people have time to vote and quibble about elections all day. These people are poor and have so much time on their hands because there are no jobs to keep them busy. We will never get anywhere in Zambia. Get out while you can

  4. AS LONG AS OPPOSITION IS WEAK AND NOT ISSUE BASED, THIS WILL CONTINUE.
WHY IS OUR OPPOSITION SPENDING SO MUCH TIME CRITICIZING GOVT EVEN ON GOOD THINGS GOVT DOES. THEY ARE NOT BUILDING VOTER CONFIDENCE IN THEMSELVES BECAUSE THEY ARE PROVING TO HAVE NO DIRECTION.
BY-ELECTIONS ARE ON THE OTHER HAND ARE AS A RESULT OF LACK OF SERIOUSNESS ON THE PART OF THE OPPOSITION PARTIES ESPECIALLY MMD AND UPND.

  5. Maxwell Mwale should just get instructions from above and continue as MP. Why worry about a supereme court judgement?

  6. Power Failure(PF) thrives on tired voters due to ever un- ending by-elections.Since PF is a failed Project,it does well where Power has Failed. It’s easier to bribe, corrupt and rig where power has failed where pipo are tired and lost interest. You don’t expect high quality votes from tired and hungry pipo.
