GOVERNMENT says it has not yet received a letter from the technical committee on drafting the Constitution requesting for a one month extension to conclude its work before handing over the final document to the President.

Minister of Justice Wynter Kabimba said Government will only give its position known on the matter once it receives a written request from the technical committee.

He said in an interview in Lusaka that even if his ministry receives a written request, he will have to consult the Ministry of Finance over the requested one month extension.

“I have just been hearing about this one month request. I have not yet received this request myself.

“The government’s position is that it will only respond to this matter upon seeing this request and of course with full consultation from the Ministry of Finance,” Mr Kabimba said.

He urged the committee to work round the clock to ensure that there are no delays in the Constitution-making process.
“The technical committee is working for the people of Zambia and we as Government want them to conclude the process. They should not prolong this process,” Mr Kabimba said.

He said the Patriotic Front government is committed to delivering a Constitution that will stand a test of time and which will be supported by all Zambians.

The technical committee has requested for a one month extension to conclude its work.

The deadline for handing over the final document to the President and the general public is June 30.

But committee spokesperson Ernest Mwansa said at a press briefing recently that the June 30 deadline has become untenable because of the other work which has to be concluded by the draftsmen.

  1. You can never ever trust Kabimba everrrrr.Ask Given Lubinda and he will tell you this guy is as untrustworthy as they come. This constitution making is for him just a self serving exercise.

    • What a great Job this PF government are doing, anything they say is what the public want to hear
For the first time, I have become a believer and if you don’t agree on this govern, meant you clearly need your head examined. They are doing a great job and for the first time we feel like returning home.

You would be insane not to see the tangible evident results and they have just started , Could you imagine in a few years time

You country is like a rough picked up timber and it is in the hands of a sculptor. Give them time, that’s all I ask , we don’t need people criticising this government

Who would you rather have? I don’t support PF but clearly this is the best government I have seen since I have cared to learn what is happening to my country I despise

      Thanks

    • Okay Mushota wasosa. But let them criticize otherwise your newly found heroes will go to sleep. In trying to prove critics wrong, they will deliver. So the vehicle is PF and the petrol is the criticism, crappy or not.

  2. Please do not give them hints that they can extend. Extension is their softest option because they financially stand to benefit more. More money in their pockets is their motivation to extend. They have had enough time and enough money already. When is enough really enough?

  3. Mr.kabimba, I know you did not received because you refused to the request. However, you are aware of it and the committee has agreed to do it free of charge. so why worry? Let them go ahead with the extension that we get the constitution in time

  4. We want the constitution delivered like yesterday. This is what people and the civil society has been saying. However, the committee should do a good job.

  5. I thought Kabimba already responded that there is no money. Was he responding to a request that was not yet on his table? And now he is sounding flexible saying that he will consult the Ministry of Finance. Why was he answering before consulting?
