Herve Renard says Zambia will win the 2013 Cosafa Cup but they are not obliged to play sexy football.
Renard said at a pre-match press briefing at Moba Hotel in Kitwe on Friday that beating defending Cosafa Cup champions Zimbabwe by any means necessary was key.
Zambia reached the final after a 5-3 post-match penalty win over Bafana following a scoreless draw that the host nation failed to produce any impact in the 30 minutes of extra time after a barren 90 minutes in the semifinals on July 17 at the same venue.
Zimbabwe on the other hand came from 1-0 down to beat Lesotho 2-1 in a first half rally to book their Cosafa Cup final spot in the opening 45 minutes and put themselves in line for an unprecedented fifth Cosafa Cup title.
“No goals in normal time I will tell you the same thing I told a journalist from Ivory Coast before the final in 2012,” Renard said.
“We are going to win but we are not obliged to score a goal to win thank you.”
Renard is targeting his first Cosafa Cup victory in two attempts after losing in the 2008 semifinals and 2009 final.
“We are going to win but we are not obliged to score a goal.” Am I missing something here? I thought a game of score is won by a team that scores one or more goals than the other.
He expects an own from by Zimbabwe in short.
He expects an own goal by Zimbabwe
I perfectly under stand him. Zambia won the final against ivory Coast without scoring in 120 minutes
Maybe he wants another penalty shootout.
That statement means a penalty shoot out can still give us the championship as penalty goals are not counted as goals scored. In any case, there wil b goals and a winner today
I Dont Expect De Guyz To Play De Same Style Dey Playd SA. Dey Shud Try Shooting 4rom Afar
Dey wil mis frm afar
lets wet and see
What’s wrong waiting while we are all nice and dry??
we have to score penalts not an option.
Haha who cares a win is a win and penalts are part of the game, until FIFA decide to remove them, penalts will always count. We have to learn to live with the penalts because that is the reality. We have to learn a win is a win period
I look forward to watching the game live on ZNBC. It will be interesting to see the Zambian players some of whom I have not watched since they came on the soccer scene. Uhmmmmmm
This is laughable and this is Zimbabwe we are talking of here, only in Zambia can a manager issue such silly statements before a final…one would be mistaken in thinking this is a group stage game. When are we going to wake up to the fact that Renard is out of his depth…we can make better use of the hefty salary we are paying him (including the cut to Kalu) by hiring the services of a manager who can read matches.
exeactly.
Do you have money to pay a quality coach. Quality costs
@Ba lukanga
Have you bothered to check? What’s your definition of quality? There are so many unemployed managers out there far more experienced than the PE teacher who can jump at the opportunity to coach Zambia if you offered them Renard’s salary. Renard is too comfortable, you think you owe him and are indebted to him for winning the AFCON 2012? You ask your Great King and his empty suits at FAZ what targets they have set for him for 2013?
Wake up!!
Jay Jay my brother your attacks are always on Kalu and FAZ, I have observed this for a long time. In my opinion Kalu and FAZ are trying their best compared to the previous ma FAZ. I have been a fan of Zambia since 1972; as such I know what I am talking about. A lot of things have happened during Kalu’s period in office.
Just wait and see after we have beaten Ghana in Kumasi, mark my words
And there lies your problem…you don’t know of any other way!!
We have won the cup 2-o and I watched the whole game live. This reminds me of the 70’s when we had a strong B team. Well done boys, next stop Kumasi
Uncle Lukanga tell them Mudala!!!!
@Lukanga the jay je guy is a great Kalu hater. Just ignore him like most of us progressive Chipolopoloans have done
hope no one suggests we bring one from the rubbish EPL where english coaches cant coach in their native country at a higher level.
