President Michael Sata this afternoon lashed out at a Chinese contractor for failure to hasten the pace of road construction works on Mwami road in Chipata district.
President Sata who sent away the contractor China Jianx construction company from a rally he addressed at Mchini Basic School grounds said he will not condone lack of seriousness among people implementing government contracts.
President Sata expressed disappointment with China Jianxi which he said is not serious with the construction works.
The President arrived in Chipata today to drum-up support for PF candidate in the Chipata central parliamentary by-election Lameck Mangani.
President Sata said that government wants to see the construction of the Mwami road completed
in good time.
The Head of State who earlier paid a surprise visit at the road under construction was shocked when he did not find the contractor who was alleged to have gone for lunch at the site.
Meanwhile, business and other social activities came to a standstill when President Michael Sata’s motorcade passed through the central business district of Chipata.
Traders and other onlookers paraded on Umodzi high way in the central business district through Kafula road in Kapata township to catch a glimpse of the Head of State.
The traders who waved at the Presidential motorcade chanted praise songs for President Sata showing the PF symbol.
And President Sata has implored the people of Chipata Central Constituency to emulate their counterparts of Msanzala constituency by voting for the ruling PF in the forthcoming Chipata central parliamentary by-election.
President Sata noted that Msanzala constituency is the only constituency with a parliamentary representation of the ruling party in the entire eastern province.
President Sata challenged the people of Chipata Central to elect an opposition Member of Parliament if they want to continue to live in poverty.
He observed that people in Chipata central have numerous problems which can be addressed if they elect an MP who can represent them well and take development to their area.
President Sata who made the PF candidate Lameck Mangani kneel in front of the people at both Mchini Basic school grounds and Mpezeni Park, advised him to represent the people of Chipata central effectively once elected area MP.
Meanwhile, Paramount chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people of Eastern province has advised the people of Chipata Central to support President Sata if they want to see development in the area.
Paramount Chief Mpezeni said the people of Chipata are tired of remaining behind in terms of development and now want to see the district attain a city status.
“Tiyeni ti sebenze naye mu bemba uyu, ni nthawi yake kuti aleteko chitukuko,”Munalume Ngao ngao,” (Let us work with this bemba man, it is his time to bring development, this real man), said Paramount chief Mpezeni.
He advised the people in Chipata to support the PF candidate in the Chipata Central constituency Lameck Mangani adding that they should be able to sit down with him if they see something wrong in him.
“Osankhala mongá likhanyane, (Do not be like ticks which stick on a cow even when it is dead),” he said.
Paramount Chief Mpezeni said president Sata was a good man who took development to all parts of the country.
The traditional leader said development will only be achieved if people in the area give chance to President Sata saying it is time for him to develop Chipata and the country at large.
Let people work in peace. You don’t know what it takes to construct a road. Abash with the 90 days rubbish. You are not a man of action. You are a man with a big mouth.
This why people lose respect and call this president UKWA or CHIBWI NO PLAN…
I why should the whole of the president of the republic of Zambia shout at a simple chinese road constructor on top of his voice like a kaponya in lima tower.. i mean a president is a person with authority and power,, a president has people working for him including people directly in charge of this chinesse project in his government, who are soppose to do that shouting at the chinesse for him,,…. the president only step in when there is absolute need not at political rally to try and show off… A president must show high quality public behavior which goes with presidency…

I get amazed at how people rejoice over ignorance and simple political goal scoring. Without facts, he shouts at someone who is perhaps innocently on lunch and dunderheads and empty tins, rejoice as if the “King UKWA” has delivered. Is this what we really want to see from our head of state? Shouting at people, his ministers and locking up journalists while using our meagre and hard earned money to block websites? We’ve only been seeing the contractor once in a while, and worse enough some cement was surfaced on part of Nyamphande road before the site could be dumped….should we wait for September 5,2013 or what?
I watched the speech by president Sata on ZNBC, I really felt so sorry for the people who voted for the PF. He never said anything constructive and just calling people names and some silly jokes. No respect for anyone at all, shouting around all the, talking about HH, Frank Bwalya and Nevers Mumba. Zambians should make a right decision in 2016. I personally thought Sata would do something constructive, but I was just wrong like many others. No presidential words come out of him. I was so disappointed really!

Sata had failed us really, this man is a bully, I witnessed the campaign rally in Chipata and he was really bullying them, telling Mangani to kneel down, talking about HH’s parents etc. You just realize the president is lost in his own world. He never talked about anything constructive and I hope the people of Chipata can teach PF lesson by not voting for their candidate. Without siding with any political party, the question we must all ask ourselves is this: “Are these actions beneficial to the masses”?
I don’t thinks so. If the Chinese contractor’s contract is cancelled, Zambia may still have to pay this contractor the full amount — depending on what the contract says. This is what happened to Clive Chirwa.
If the government was really concerned about the progress of the road construction, they would have sent appropriate MPs, Ministers or other project managers.
Do we really need the WHOLE president to go oversee the construction of the road, when there are more important things to focus on: job creation, medicine in hospitals, books in schools, HIV/AIDS, malaria, etc?

We really miss the Great Son of Zambia, Late President Levy Mwanawasa. The chain of developments Mwanawasa initiated are clearly visible to be seen by all Zambians. RB pursued Mwanawasa’s programme to the letter and embarked his own project that are now reflected in form of tarred roads seen in Chipata and many towns in Zambia. Mwanawasa’s/RB’s fruits can be confirmed by all workers, \civil \servants, the Police, Defence Force personnel, Farmers and Taxi operators. Mwanawasa and RB worked hard and talked less. Professional journalists will agree with this assertion.
So he dragged the Chinese to the rally just to embarrass him. Did the Chinese have anything to do with the rally? Why was he at the rally? Or was it a presidential plan to show that the president is working?

Consultants have not been contracted so there are no designs to even begin the work.
