Former President Rupiah Banda’s son Andrew has been arrested for defaming President Michael Sata.

Andrew, a former diplomat was picked up Thursday afternoon shortly after making an apperance in court in his ongoing corruption case.

Lusaka Province Police Commissioner Joyce Kasosa confirmed Andrew’s arrest in an interview.

“Yes we picked up this afternoon (Thursday) and we are holding him in one of our stations.This has to do with a case in Eastern Province,” Ms Kasosa said.

“I don’t have much detail as the case is being handled by our Colleagues in Eastern Province,” she added.

Andrew is accused of uttering statements that have the potential to bring the name of the President in disrepute.

Sources close to the matter say Andrew issued insulting words directed at President Sata during campaigns for the Chipata Central parliamentary bye elections.

    • The news from Zambia has continued to break my heart.Why are people being harassed like this?Journalists,opposition leaders etc.They say forest fires are a necessary cycle in nature and after the devastating fire the ground is enriched and new trees grow.I think sadly we are seeing the beginning of a fire in Zambia.It will have a destructive force but after that our country will never be the same again- for the better.I just fear what form this fire will take and how many innocent people will meet its destructive force.I’m crying ……

    The President has been going round the country defaming his own citizens calling them horrendous and awful names, and he gets away with it, because he’s President. Where’s fairness? Where’s Justice?

    I will only agree that a person be arrested if there’s been a credible threat to the President’s life by such a person, not defamation. How many times has Obama been called “Nigger”, “African witchdoctor”, “Kenyan pretender”, “Monkey” and so on and people still get away with it? But immediately someone threatens his life, even just verbally, the mighty FBI gets him!
