Health Minister Joseph Kasonde says there is no need for people to panic over the non-availability of Truvada an Anti retroviral Drug because the little that is available will be rationed.
He said this means patients on the drug will receive a two -week supplies instead of the usual four week supply.
Five hundred and seven thousand five hundred and 22 people are on ART.
Government in the 2013 budget allocated 175 million Kwacha on ART treatement an increase of 30 percent compared to the previous year.
Dr Kasonde has told ZNBC news that the country is expected to receive new supplies of Truvada in the next two weeks.
Dr. Kasonde says the ministry does not anticipate that this will have any effects as most patients who are on the drug have adequate supplies.
Asked on whether the ministry may consider changing the supplier, Dr Kasonde says they will not change the supplier because the delay was due to transit procedures.
On Friday, some patients were turned away from some clinics in Lusaka due to lack of the drug.
What a coincidence!, this rationing of ARV’s only started when government started inducing by elections.
As long as there are enough supplies for F Mutubila, D Mukanzo, Wynter, Sylvia and that team the rest of the country can go stuff itself, right?
Who do you think your people will be screwing? The masses out here will have drug resistant HIV and your ministers, parastatal chiefs, PSs and Directors will get drug resistant HIV. When one finger has oil on it soon all your fingers have oil on them.
I thought you had not fired everyone with a brain at MoH, but it seems you did!
When government says ‘No need to panic’ it’s code for ‘everyone’s screwed!.
Royally screwed.
Kuti wapena pa zed. what about those who have completely run out of medication. Awe Mwebantu mulekwatako uluse. I haven never heard of delays in allowances for the top pamwamba’s.
