Share

Skipper Christopher Katongo has been ruled out Chipolopolo’s August 14 friendly against Senegal scheduled for the French capital Paris.

And coach Herve Renard has left Orlando Pirates striker Collins Mbesuma out of the 20-member Zambia squad to face Senegal.

FAZ spokesperson Erick Mwanza confirmed that Katongo and his China counterpart James Chamanga will not be part of the squad minus elaborating further.

“Chris and James won’t make the trip to France and therefore are out of the FIFA friendly match against Senegal,” Mwanza said on Wednesday.

The two players have since been replaced by Nkana striker Evans Kangwa and Red Arrows playmaker Bruce Musakanya.

And Renard has sidelined Mbesuma from the squad to face Senegal while including nine players from the CHAN squad.

The Frenchman has retained misfiring Nchanga Rangers striker Bornwell Mwape who has not scored in the last four matches for the home based Zambia squad.

    • Thank GOD Chris Katongo will miss, no bulling young players!!
But I wish Felix Katongo was recalled to Chipolopolo, he is a good player.

  1. Please RH try Bronson Chama to play the central role in Defense together with Sunzu while Munthali and Hichani plays the left and right respectively.

    • I thought Jimmy Chisenga is more versatile as a right wing back than the so called proffessionals Renard keeps assigning the task to. The coach could have taken him along even if it meant him being on the bench.

  2. Jimmy Chisenga is versatile but was allowing too many crosses from the opponents which is not good for a national team. The team is okay but i hope Mbesuma will be back for the Ghana game.
I also thought clifford mulenga should be back since the coach has reconcilled with him.
For christopher katongo bye bye to the national team you are selfish for nothing and cost us the 2013 Afcon with your selfishness.

  3. Festus Mbewe??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Lusaka times please give us the correct position some media houses are reporting that Chris and James will play the friendly match against Senegal. we are wondering what is happening.

  5. CHRIS KATONGO is not selfish, he just keeps on trying at Goal and gets the goals and then he is accused of being selfish. Before AFCON, Zambia has never had consistent scorers apart from Mbesum and Chris. In Kumasi experience will be important because of crowd intimidation……For you information CHRIS is missing game because he is committed on Sunday night and flight into France only allows him to get to France on Tuesday Night. The coach knows already.
