Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda has expressed happiness with the pace of construction works at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport’s new terminal building.

Mr Chikwanda praised contractors working on the Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport for putting up a world-class new international terminal building within a short period of time.

The new terminal building would be completed by Monday next week in readiness for the 20th session of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly in Livingstone and beyond the event.

Mr Chikwanda commended the contractors saying though the timeframe to carry out the works was not enough they had tried to do the impossible within a short period of time.

He was speaking in Livingstone today when he inspected construction works at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport.

Currently, the existing airport building has the capacity to attract 250, 000 passengers per year while the new terminal building would be attracting about 700, 000 passengers annually.

The new terminal building would have two boarding gates, five club lounges, 30 retail spaces and viewing terraces.

“In all fairness, we can only commend those behind the airport project considering that the project has been executed within a short period of time.

“We are working against very limited time and well done for the tremendous job done to the project so far,” Mr Chikwanda said.

“From the Ministry of Finance, we will spare no efforts to ensure that the resources are available in right amounts at the right time,” he said.

He called for more hard word in ensuring that the few remaining works were completed by Monday as planned.

while as you saying Good read below,,, source muvi tv
Developmental projects targeted at beautifying the tourist capital Livingston ahead of the UNWTO will not be completed before the conference.

Transport works and supply minister YamfwaMukanga says the market and bus terminus will not be completed by 24 August 2013.

Mr. Mukanga however remains hopeful that the Harry MwaangaNkumbula international airport will be completed though it will be commissioned after the conference.

  1. LT SHOW US THE TERMINAL BUILDING. KNOWING ZAMBIANS?? IAM SURE IT’S OF SUB STANDARDS. OUR FM IS ABIT OLD TO KNOW OR APPRECIATE MODERN STANDARDS.

  2. Good job PF. I have to give credit where it is Due. If you did more work than politics, I would support you.

  3. the terminal is a master class according to our standards its better than the gutted jomo kenyanta, but completion before UNWTO is a falacy, remember this thing has been under construction from the RB era.

    • Dude have you been to the Jomo Kenyatta airport before? I have been there and I can tell you that is has more than 2 boarding gates and is far much better than most airports in Southern Africa perhaps only O.R can be better.

    • Being a Zambian working at JKIA in Nairobi I know I can have some authority to say that JKIA is old and cannot compare with Airport Infrastructure coming up in Southern Africa like the Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport or those in SA. JKIA is only better than KKIA.
That is why it even burnt terribly with firemen not knowing where the water pipes are located. JKIA is just a busy port.
When we improve KKIA we definitely have a better airport than JKIA only question will need to pose is the use of the facility to warrant a mordern airport.

  4. @ 5 jomo kenyata can’t even be compared to zed km or Nkumbula airports even infrastructure in Kenya is well above Zambian standards its a shame national illiteracy levels r so high hence our country is blind full of people with low IQ.

    • I find your comment rather childish, the goal here is to work and develop Zambia not who started or finished what, whats wrong with you? i have no idea who started building schiphol, which never even come to my mind but the dutch are proud of such an achievement and they have sure benefited a zillion times and the still do, same as Joburg airport, how old are you?

    • my dear patriotic citizen it is amazing how the airport is looking it is already intn’l standard far much better than lsk airport.

UNWTO deligation appreciated then why cnt people appreciate their own staff than keep on praising your neihbours wife or hub? does that make sense?

  5. the project started during rb time. what short time are you talking about. World class? my foot! we don’t know what world class is. thats why to them kamwala is and cairo road are clean. the market and bus stop won’t be finished. shame on you pf for wasting money on bi elections and persecuting journalists and ZWD

  6. RB had nothing to do with the Terminal Building National Airports got a loan from ZANACO as the Government then was not willing to put in any money. However the PF government Has pumped in money to complete the project. Otherwise we would ave had half of what is on the ground today without any equipment just a shell.

  7. MMD designed it, why does this rat say in a short time, RB started it …. PUFFFFFFF! And please don’t rename it “Good Progress memorial Airport” Dull chaps!

  8. The HMNA will be the best of its kind in Southern Africa, people watch the space, its beautiful the entrance has with the bridge and running water beneath it, cool, all the best

  9. What are we comparing this airport with? How far has one travelled matters a lot. We know what we shud expect. We must have nultiple runways and trunks. More needs to be done. 2 boarding gates only? What a joke! Demolish KKIA too and come up with an ultra mordern airport like the OR Tambo, if we can’t be closer to JFK.
