Former Defence Minister George Mpombo has charged that Zambia has lost its global reputation in the two years the Patriotic Front government has been in power.
Mr Mpombo who is also former Zambian deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria said the country’s association with countries considered rogue states such as North Korea has not helped the country’s global image.
He said it is an embarrassment for Zambia to associate itself with a country like North Korea known for its poor human rights record.
And Mr Mpombo says the PF’s two years in power is a failure.
He noted that the ruling party has abandoned programmes outlined in the manifesto resulting in its failure to deliver on campaign promises.
Mr. Mpombo added that the country is currently in economic darkness as a result of the PF government’s failure to govern.
Meanwhile Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) vice President Cannicius Banda has charged that the ruling Patriotic Front has lost the legitimacy to govern.
Dr Banda said the PF has lost legitimacy to government the country based on the many unfulfilled promises they promised the Zambian people in the run up to the 2011 tripartite elections.
He said the Zambian people based their judgment to usher the Patriotic Front into power on the numerous promises made to them which have proved to be mere rhetoric.
Dr Banda added that the PF’s foundation for governing the country is based on alleged lies which takes away their legitimacy to continue governing the nation.
Speaking to Qfm News, Dr Banda further expressed sadness at the government’s failure to diversify the economy from being over dependent on copper.
He further lamented that the Kwacha has continued losing ground against major foreign currencies.

Can PF come back to its promises and win the vote of the rightful thinking Zambians. Just deliver and stop the by elections because its draining the same money meant for developing the country. Stop politicking for once and solve the promises you made. People are waiting for the promises that made them vote for you. we are waiting please.

Sata should start by discarding Kabimba, and other ministers will be motivated.
Which reputation?
When does failure to deliver on campaign promises become an issue? is it as soon as party is voted into office or at the end of their term?
Why are opposition parties so much in a hurry when PF has three years more to go before we can conclude that they have failed?
Besides, we are the best judges on the performance of Sata’s govt not the gibberish statements from the opposition parties

It is simple and based on two possibilities.
1. He, like many Zambians, has realised that the PF are “clueless” and retrogressive so he has turned his back on them and now campaigning for the good of the nation. After all he is only human.
2. He is self serving and on realising that the PF are unlikely to propel him to the higher ranks he was craving, he decides to form his own party in order to have a go at the cake. Besides Sata the grade 7 managed to do it.
Either way, he is a Zambian and entitled to support and “unsupport” any party or indeed have ambitions for high office. It is upto us as Zambians to learn from this big current mistake and ensure we vote wisely in future.
Once you reprimand Mpombo (the duiker) for his doggy activities then he becomes a thorn in your side. PF wanted to reward him for endorsing them without checking his murky past. Now he will haunt them for the rest of their stay in power. Mwanya bane ba PF.
Mpombo is not a factor, he should just take the imprest receipts to court and clear himself. How can someone speak so highly of PF and when a case is found against him he turns against the very people he supported. And now he wants to form a party. It’s sad some people think Zambians are stupid that you can just wake up, form a party and you have a following.

The article makes sense, I think the Judiciary may have been in a hurry to act. However my personal view is that it dose not make sense to have people that are believed to have participated in corruption to contest the very seats they were disqualified for. If they say they are not guilt of corruption involvement why then where they disqualified as MPs. Could some be disqualified on the basis of someone else’s corrupt practices?

We should not be too concerned about our global reputation, we should be more concerned about setting our own standards, achieving our own goals and improving the livelihood of our people. African problems require African solutions.

I think we should measure ourselves by the commonly agreed global standards irrespective of who has set them? Remember Zambia is not an island and we have begging bowls in each corner of the globe. Therefore we cannot ignore our global reputation lest we end up like Mugabe’s Zimbabwe.
In addition, what are the “African solutions” to African problems? African problems are created by greed and self serving leaders and there shall never be an “African solution” to that other than common sense, the world over, and educate ourselves against such greed.

As for you Canisius Banda, joining politics is one of the most critical mistakes you have ever made. For one thing there’s no constituency in Zambia that can host you as MP, least of all, Mandevu, or Vubwi, your home area that you have never visited. So the only role you will play, to put food on the table for your family, is to convert to veterinarian and practise on HH’s farms.

Remember that failing to plan is failing to rule. Ever since PF came into power there has been a lot of boycotts and riots, killing of innocent people like the Kampasa, strikes all over in private companies, and road accident even mysterious deaths which we have never experienced before.
The other wondering issue in my mind is when Zambia is a land locked country but no visiting head of state apart from Mugabe who met him at the boarder. In my language there is a saying which says a bad person has less visitors. For sure Zambians where have we gone wrong that no presidents coming to our country to visit even neighbours could not?
Could it be because we are not inviting these Heads of States as State visits are expensive in terms of security, accommodation and other related costs? Just asking. How can you seriously blame road traffic accidents caused by bad drivers and unroadworthy vehicles on the government?
