President Michael Sata should stop the construction of his retirement house if he cares about the suffering of the poor Zambians, Alliance for a Better Zambia (ABZ) leader Frank Bwalya has advised.
Fr Bwalya said it was unconscionable for President Sata to prioritise the construction of his retirement house when he was still employed by Zambians as the country’s Head of State.
Fr Bwalya said the decision by Mr Sata to build his retirement house when public institutions like the Copperbelt University and other public institutions of higher learning were facing accommodation crisis was a sign that the Patriotic Front government assumed power only to serve and satisfy their personal desires.
He said it was irrational for government to spend money on the construction of a retirement house for Mr Sata because the President was enjoying the luxury of living in State House and that he was not desperate for accommodation.
Government has commenced the construction of President Sata’s retirement house long before his retirement from politics and Minister of Transport, Communications, Works and Supply Yamfwa Mukanga has said there is nothing wrong with the building a retirement house for Mr. Sata before those of his predecessors.
“We condemn the selfishness of the PF for prioritizing the construction of a retirement house for President Sata even before he actually retires. This decision to build Mr Sata’s retirement house before resolving the problem of accommodation for students at the Copperbelt University (CBU), the University of Zambia (UNZA) and other public institutions of higher learning projects Mr Sata as the most selfish president Zambia has ever had,” Fr Bwalya said.
Fr Bwalya observed President Sata’s cabinet had distinguished itself as the most tolerated regarding bad leadership saying government Ministers were acting like puppets without the ability to question the action of their master.
And Fr Bwalya has said the report that some PF cadres were demanding to be part of the management structure for the Copperbelt University confirmed what he had warned that the ruling party was going to take over all state and other public institutions.
The PF constitution has explicitly stated that all public and parastatals enterprises shall be led by party cadres who were uncompromisingly committed to the agenda of the PF.
“In fact, the attacks on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) are part of the same scheme to replace Justice Irene Mambilima and other staff at the commission with PF cadres. As such, we should not expect any senior PF official to condemn the action of their cadres who stormed CBU demanding to be part of management because it is in line with article 3 of their party constitution,’ Fr Bwalya said.
show us the pictures, is the said house on a window level or roof or paper work level?
Another empty politician bushi.ting about his fellow crap leaders. We should not put faith in politicians to solve our problems as they are as bad as each other. Sata is a good leader only that is now a sick person with a brain damage that has seriously affected his sense of judgement and now is being used a solola by opportunists to pursue their own agendas.
Priests and Paupers – almost nil possibility of being President
we must do away with the retirement housing for presidents. They don’t deserve it.
Every one who aspires for that highest office of the lands already has a house before they become president, so a pension is more than enough for them.
You honestly think Sata or any of these politicans really care about your wellfare. Get get on working hard in any area that you do.
Sata continued staying at Omelo Mumba for almost 3 months after being elected. A caring Head of State will give notice to his tenant mid 2016, of his families impending return to his House. The house and location are decent enough for any level headed Individual.
spot on, in other countries presidents have given up their salaries as personal commitment and love to the countries , there r many things mandated my the republican constitution but logical priority than selfishness determines what needs done first, and why not predecessor’s houses first pure common sense than logical sense if u have any.
The cheaper the politician, the more he costs his nation.
Facker bwalya get lost u are just frustrated and power hungary. U have short memory too!
Under the PF, laws of the land must all be read upside down. From failing to differentiate between a election nullification, clear as it is, and a conviction /fine arising from a criminal proceeding. now, it is the construction of a retirement house before Sata even clocks 2 years in office. rule of the jungle at its best. The judiciary is in the dock and must redeem itself, otherwise we have all the right circumstances befitting staging a coup.
PF is full of empty tins! That is why they make a lot of noise. They don’t have substance.
Has Sata got no house? Why is he rushing into building a retirement house when he already has a lot of real estate in lsk? This is sheer greed, wickedness and lack of care for the suffering masses!
Speaing of empty tins,a politician in Mexico is called an air conditioner system.Thats because air conditioners make alot of noise but they don’t work.An apt description that fits in zambia too.
father Bwalya, before you poke someone. why is it that you are not married and you don’t have dependants but you have shifted in four bedroomed house? what for?
Is Bwalya using taxpayers’ money? All I can see here are apples and oranges…..and the two are not the same!
What’s amazing is that he hasn’t even finnshed two years. At least if he was doing his second term.
A statesman is a politician who puts himself at the service of his nation,a zambian politician is a man who puts his nation to serve his interests.Bwana Sata is living up to the latter description.
Right message, wrong messenger.
Defer or do both if the Zambian budget works.
Two days after he became President, Mr Sata said, ” I will not rest until every child in Zambia is able to have three meals per day” I guess that promise does not include accommodation.
so this fool is still alive can someone please flash him down the toilet. this childless father makes very little sense when he talks.
Impunity at its best. Ati nothing wrong in building retirement home for a President before he retires. What does the law say? If there’s no law to that effect, what does morality say?
But then under the current leadership, do laws or morals count? How about this? Wouldn’t it be a taboo to dig a grave for a human being that still lives and walks?
My example may be bizarre, but the idea of building a retirement luxurious home for a sitting President is way beyond the stretch and is absolutely immoral. Someone must test it the courts of law. Sue Government!
Well said sgt Gunduzani. Its sad Zambia only relies on laws.USA has laws and ethics charges meaning what may not be unlawful might be unethical. General David Petraeus was removed bcoz of an affair and Guy Hunt was removed as Alabama governor in ’94 on ethics charges. They did unethical stuff but not neccesarily illegal.Zambia badly needs stronger rule of law and ethics charges too.
Father Bwalya may have his own weaknesses as all of us do, but I entirely agree with him on the issue of constructing a house for a sitting head of state at the very beginning of his first term!!!
Isn’t there a queue to be followed? Anyway, it is a mystery since we ordinary citizens (or is it subjects?) do not even know whether the two late former Presidents who served more years thana the incumbent wil also be built houses. I suppose we are not even worth being called citizens but subjects since those in power (our leaders turned rulers) do not even bother to explain these things to us even when they know that they are using our money!!! Sad.
This is the worst leadership ever. I propose we remove the close that Zambians must build a house for a former president. They make enough money to build their own house. How come we all have to build our own houses? Public service must not be a self enriching venture. This move is not only immoral but borders of betraying the trust of Zambians. Shame on you President Sata for allowing such a move.
The Law is very clear. No one shall benefit from the provisions of retirement when they are still active in politics. “There is everything wrong with your actions Mr. Minister”…. read your laws. This is an immoral move and an abuse of authority.
Fr Bwalya wht do u feel abt?Hate & vengeance!Wht post apart frm Chairperson Board at Zesco do u feel suited u? Now the way u cary yrself as if u any beter lookng at yr turn around aproach to politcal career whch u dont evn desrv.Shutup & go back to yr NGO charitable organistion.U wil rust like Nevers Mumba leavng pulpit fr money & status.
leader Frank Bwalya, has nothing to talk about. The construction of President Sata’s retirement house long before his retirement from politics is just in line with the constitution. RB is suppose to be in a retiring home by now. The money involved in the construction of a house is just a drop of water compared to the money needed to end poverty. Other Subsidies including maize and fuel subsidies, “the seeds” are eaten every year. This money would have been used positively on infrastructures. This is what Frank should be taking about. What good thing have come out of Maize and fuel subsidies? The result has been that the poverty level has been increasing,
Huh,ati drop of water? Small stuff often determines the quality of the end product otherwise you wouldn’t just dismiss it.Why does David Cameron fly commercial yet he runs a 2.4tr economy? Would you open your door if the key was off by 0.5mm?
The difference btn us and developed countries is they are detail oriented while we’re lax with timekeeping, cleanliness and work ethic coz we think its just small stuff.Which side lives better lives btn the lax and the detail oriented countries? Think again.
This is bcos sata has no hse. He has bn living in a senegalese hse till plot1.
These people are parasites and they are really doing everything possible to suck this country dry!
Ati a ‘man of action! What a waste, what a liar’
Do not stand for Presidency if you do not have a house of your own. We did not vote for you to enrich yourself!!!
Fr. Frank Bwalya’ s concerns are relevant and they must be treated with seriouness. Only fools, dunderheads, imbeciles, paupers and so on like those serving in government can support such a stupid move of building a mansion for a sitting/ serving president because the constitution is very clear on this matter. This is abundant proof of the level of selfishness in the PF because non in the previous administrations embarked on such a project before retiring. That’ s why I for one, I don’ t see any substance in the PF government because their vision/ direction is empty. They lack a clear vision of priorities apart from hatred and suppression which is their main agenda. Those who are unaware of this fact will be surprised what shall take place sooner than later.
Father Bwalya is spot on. let us NOT condemn him for past mistakes. It is NOT Father Bwalya who is ruling, it is SATA.
Now this SATA is really messing us big time. Why start contructing his house when others haven’t even started.
It is either PF knows he wont last, dying soon and they want him to enjoy that house first or they are too selfish.
I thought mcs is standing for second term in 2016?
Is there change of plan or this is just in case his bid for 2016 re-election fails?
Was this project budgeted for?
Why has it become so urgent now?
Wisdom is key to leadership I would do the same if I was the President do not be hypocrites. There is no difference between now and when he retires period Money will be spent any way.the best thing is to change the law.HH and Father do not waste your time on this issue its HE entailment.Tell us really issues.
you 1diot, these are the real issues the two are talking about. money which should’ve gone to construct hostels at cbu is going to build sata’s house before it is due. its like you are thinking using you ass instead of the brain, if you have any. maybe you are drunk from your boss’s urine makaka
This quack must go back to school.Your level of thinking is below par.Use your brains reasoning not your ass or balls you idiot.Cage the crooks my ass.
@Cage, are you saying this just to wind bloggers up keep the debate going on both sides or do you really believe what you’ve said? If you really mean Sata’s retirement home is a priority over students hostels, some of these students are your own relatives, then you seriously need help because you are a danger to yourself and your children.
walasa…..
The president does not care about other peoples accommodation problems in the country . Currently CBU is facing serious accommodation problem. He will go down in the Zambian history as the most self centred leader .
You are busy building yours he should also build his you insult him night and day do you insult him for nothing!
