Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah said it was great relief to win after a second half comeback by Zambia.
The Black Stars beat Zambia 2-1 to advance to the final playoff round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers that kick off next month.
“Zambia is a very good side and we expected a very difficult game. Our ambition was to win though we knew a draw could even send us through,” Appiah said.
“Tactically, we planned to attack and defend together and the boys were on point. There were times they had difficulties because Zambia also have that much quality but the most important thing is, they worked as expected.
“We did not want to concede a goal, but that was not to be. We could not get all our chances of target. The team did well in the end.”
Ghana are chasing their third successive World Cup appearance after qualifying for the 2006 and 2010 editions of the tournament.
….here ends my Zambian dream to Brazil but another starts for either Germany or Engalandeee!
By the way, we were with the VP G Scott at the High Comm in London. He was such a gentleman and his wife is vivacious and warm. I might have just changed my outlook at the old man Scott. I can simply say we were looked after but shame the boys lost after a very brave display and probably the best team lost on the day. VIVA chipo’s
Guy and Charlotte are two wonderful people!! very warm, they are truly Zambian
Now that’s a good coach there….worthy representatives of the continent at the world cup!!
ba jayjay naimwe do u really know who a good coach is. How do relate this pathetic kumasi failure a better coach than HR. ati ba ghana. That arab terrorist uncle to osama bin laden referee didnt give us 2 clear penalties and you call this clueless coach, good.
Appiah nga wacipya lelo. When did ghana become this makula. Chi gyan kwati cilapepa dobo.
Look at the statics of two teams in the group when you sober up…you will see that Appiah is a far better coach than your PE trainer. Statics not lie!!
WAKE UP!!
statistics aside, HR is better. PE is better than what jose mourinio has (interpreter) who shud ve become england coach at one time.
I don’t understand you, you coach failed on many occasion(Sudan and Lesotho matches), even being given 3 free points the team manage to fall behind. The Ghana coach did his best in every game ( not only in Kumasi) and so I agree. Between the two coaches, Ghana coach is better. Zambia needs to hold their FA admins accountable for this failure, full stop.
This disorganization from the Zambian FA is kill football in the country, I remember a while back when Zambia showed up to play an international football friendly match in London, Zambia did not have even eleven players to play the match they have to field in a couple of Zambian college students from London. I was so a shamed for them, they ended up loosing 4:0.
Zambia you should have avoided this ‘do or die’ match. It is upsetting that whenever Zambia loses they blame outside forces; it is the Ref again or the reception. In all honesty Zambia should have wrapped this qualifier with all the home matches. Sudan and Lesotho were supposed to be sure games but alas.
Football is about scoring goals and not how well one is playing and why wait till the 2nd half to play your lungs out. There should have been that sense of urgency from the 1st minute. Masembe talema nayo…sembe yenze penoti!!! Well the penalty wasn’t given so stop the sembes…
we jst lost the game sme1 scoring afar & mweene was dozing, our defence also was pathetic nway dats the game.ref was very fair and impartial.
Sembes (if only) are not bad in themselves, they help you plan better next time. I think Munyau could have done better in goal on the day. Kennedy is getting too fat. 1st goal was kicked from his area, he could have come out to punch that ball away. The 2nd goal from range caught him napping. Our strikers also are to blame, after neat interchages, the effort came to naught.
the boys represented us well wat do u espect after ill treatment
the special one was right when he said the ”better team lost” after chelsea were beaten by Bayern in the super cup. I think he was right.
Ati….from chipolopolo to mapolopolo…..lol
ulitolo sana
Two issues stand out:
1.Both our deadliest strikers Collins and Jacob were not there and that explains why Zambia’s goal came from Nathan a midfielder.
2.We should have camped in A west African country and only fly to Ghana 2 hours before the match.
3.Zambia has still not found a replacement for Kalusha.Remember Kalu could win a game single handedly for Zambia.
However, the team played very well .In this regard, FAZ Should keep Reinard
A.M
ghana coach should thank his association for ill treating zambian players. More than 50% of the source of zambia defeat can be attributed to ill-treatment. What’s the way forward now, FAZ? Do you complain to FIFA or CAF or what?
You should be asking FAZ as its to blame for all those issues you have highlighted BUT the FACT is you were NEVER going to win in Ghana.
if ghana, were that good, they would have walloped us by a rugby scoreline, but that wasn’t the case, and the fact of the matter is, ghana after all may not go to brazil, either, they haven’t qualified yet…they have all the big names in the team…but yet failed to totally dismantle a not star studded zambia.
I dont know why zambian think chipolopolo was going to beat Black stars. As the saying goes, “been taller than your father doesn’t mean you are older than him” chipolopolo two recent wins over black stars do not put them any closer to Ghana. Ask Renard and he will tell you Ghana is the best team in Africa. Their two World Cup appearance tells you all. Zambia (3 points clear) after two games including that free 3 points from Sudan. What is the standing now….Ghana 15, Zambia 11. Chipoloplo funs should give us a break!!
Egypt /Algeria will be your next opponent,we wait to see the way you’ll ill treat them.
ghana will qualify to brazil weder u like it or not. we ar much prepared for any team we even wnt to play Egypt for de playoffs.and see us do our magic in brazil
