Herve Renard has described Zambia’s 2014 World Cup qualifier Group D exit as a shame.
Ghana beat Zambia 2-1 in Kumasi to finish top of Group D on 15 points while the latter trailed four points behind to finish on 11 points from six games.
“It is such a shame that we did not believe enough in the first half,” Renard said after the game.
Ghana stamped their authority in the first half that saw them take the lead in the 17th minute through Majeed Waris after some poor defending by Hichani Himonde and Stopilla Sunzu.
“That would have been the turning point. And when we began believing in the second half, things got a lot difficult and it was almost too late,” Renard said.
“We are very disappointed but we also know that we just played against a difficult Ghana side.
“We needed a win to go through, though we knew it will be difficult we were very determined.”
Kwado Asamoah extended Ghana’s lead in the 62nd minute with an unstoppable long range shot before Nathan Sinkala scored Zambia’s consolation ten minutes later.
Well I went to bed before the match and Just woke up now in Aussie and am not surprised by the news. Too Bad the delegation of 70 will be heading back shameless with plastic bags full of what they have bought. It a win for them.
after a long time I finally watched real Zambian football. Neat passes, confident movements. True zambia should have won that match, only if they had started with an attacking attitude…….but think here…..Kumasi temps are as high as 39, the boys just arrived a night before, therefore u cannot start at high note u need to acclimatize a little bit…..if u go a week before the west Africans are such primitive people you risk your players’ lives, so should have camped in Gambia perhaps
….it was a difficult situation.
You call West Africa primitive and still you think camping in Gambia would have been better for Zambia?? Most of you either are ignorant of West Africa or plain stupid. Do a little search and get to know Ghana and you will see how per GDP, per infrastructure, per development, per education and per human resources Ghana is way ahead of Zambia…………..Primitive?? Indeed you watch a lot of Nigerian movies. Get a grip of life………….
Ghana has hosted AFCON 2 times in the past 12 years and countries and teams have camped here countless number times without a single incident. Blame your poor organization on your FAZ…………
You think you are better than a team that lost only one one the road and didn’t drop a single point afterwards? Hallucination!!!
@Kofi, you sound like many that I know from the so called developed countries who think that civilization lies in the concrete around them … no my friend, it’s in your brain & mind! There are primitive people even in the USA whose GDP is millions of times higher than ours. The recently discovered oil and the diamonds in your country do not automatically translate into you being being well cultured and/or IQ. Your belief in the power of superstition to determine the outcome of a soccer match or the power relations between players on the pitch is a case in point. It is skill, determination & hard work, discipline, some good luck and accuracy in taking chances that win matchess!
When is Renard going to resign?
Why do you want Renard to go? You do not just have have quality footballers in Zambia. Even you call the best coach in the world you will never win against big teams in africa.
Resign or fired?
Am A Zimbabwean but support Zambia because we dont have a national team to support here. Please can someone tell me from Zambia what did Bonnet did?I understand he qualified for 2012 Afcon not Renard I think he is the one who assembled the famous 2012 generation….I think Renard must leave now….He lost the game with Sudan and Lesotho don’t forget.
Renard had told the Nation that if he does not qualify the team to the World Cup, he will resign. So let him do the honorable thing.
It is not the end of the world, it’s time to evaluate and build stronger.
Ba Coach you simply have no marksman at the front of Kalusha Bwalya’s caliber. You need to have someone with the ability to rise to the occasion when the going gets tough. As far as I see our problem is the dearth of strikers.
I think Kalusha has been overrated in Zambian football. What crucial goals did Kalusha score that got Zambia anywhere? All I can remember is him scoring a few goals in the group stages of the Olympics in Soul 1988. He failed to score in the quarter final of that competition. He failed to score in the 1996 Africa cup semi-final. He failed to score in the 1994 Africa cup final. In short he never scored a goal that got us to the crucial stages of any competition. So which crucial goals did he score?
Totally agree with you 100%.Mayuka failed us full time. Eish we really missed Jacob and Collins.Even Sakuwaha would have made an impact than Mayuka. No wonder is loaned the bottom French ligue club.
Renard, yes its a big shame Zambia lost when we were already sailing with 3 free points. The team missed great points when they failed to score against weaker teams. And when the chance to play Ghana came, you underrated them, logistics was pathetic, team was making preps in the 11th hour, they had no time to rest and get acclimatised to the weather, so what did we EXPECT, A MIRACLE. LLETS BE SERIOUS
Hard luck coach. Dont be discouraged, they will be a lot of negative comments from people whose understanding of football is quite limited. Well done Chipolopolo, 2-1 shows that you were determined. You won the Africa cup in 2012, you won the COSAFA in 2013. Lets plan for 2014 and rally behind Herve Renard. Lets always think with our brains and not our emotions!
I Fully Agree “Georgina Vok”
AFCON 2012 was a fluke and COSAFA tournament is Joke only RSA is the only competition of those 13 countries.
Wake up Zambia is NOT worthy!!
Really laughable…this coming from HR!!
jayjay! am given to understand you ve a terrible personal problem with HR.
Really laughable…this coming from HR was he expecting a draw!!
franklyn tembo jr is a useless low self esteem commentator. Listening to him would think he is a foreigner commentator. Why being so negative about zambia. He has placed info about soccer. in his inferior thinking anyone who plays in the epl must be glorified no matter what.
Franklyn must be very primitive and shallow.
Next we await the response from his Royal Highness Great King himself…brace yourselves for the same pathetic lame statement. He waits for the dust to settle before he makes his vague statements.
Guess which team camped in Switzerland to prepare for Brazil 2014 and got to Brazil on the day of their first group match of their maiden WC because they had to get some fuel before continuing to Brazil planning to land somewhere close to the stadium with or without clarence to fly, and warm up at the airport?
Any ideas please…?
Easy. Ghana infact sad us embarrassment on the international stage.
The system in the first half was defensive. It was not about belief. The 2nd half team should have started. U re not jst a good tactitian Herve.

Much as Zambia lost to Ghana in Kumasi, Ghana lost to Zambia in Ndola by a comparable score line. What separates the two teams is the draw by Zambia against Lesotho in Maseru and the draw by Zambia against Sudan in Ndola. This is what I would call shameful; more especially considering that Sudan had wired us by two goals to zero in Khartoum. Otherwise, today’s loss is not shameful.
Or rather when is he going to be fired. I have never believed in Renard and still don’t and will never. I have always advocated for his firing. No apologies!
There is nothing shameful about loosing 2-1to Ghana. It was shameful to draw at home and worse still draw with Lestho when you are on a journey to the world cup. We played well in Knumasi and managed to silence the stadiumnon several occasions.
THOSE WITH EARS HEAR…PLEASE DO NOT FIRE THE COACH HE KNOWS THE ZAMBIAN GAME
I watched the game with the VP G Scott at the the High Comm London. His wife is so gregarious, full of life and more Zambia than I felt on the night. We were the best team on the night though we lost. Rule of thumb in life….no one remembers the second man to step on the moon.
Any who watched this game would agree that Zambia was the better side(even a sincere Ghanaian). I really enjoyed to just watch our boys play. To lose 2-1 is something that is very honorable in football at that level. The only thing I would say is that we should have played the way we played last night in the other matches.
Yes, Zambia did well yesterday. But not surprising. As usual, mediocre teams play with their everything when they meet renowned football teams. It’s your ability to beat the “whipping boys” that make you a renowned a renowned team. Ghana won 5 out of the six matches with +18 goals in all. Zambia won only 2 matches scoring only +7 goals. Judge for yourself.
“ati….from chipolopolo to mapolopolo…..lol” just quoting from ZWD
All Zambia needed was the fighting spirit – attaching en mass and defending en mass. They were trotting and jogging while Ghana were Running and sprinting! Zambians are to causal on the ball! They lack the fighting spirit of Zimbabwe and South Africa. They need to improve on their pace and possession football. Blind passes and long balls do not do for them! The African cup was won out of spirit rather than skill or tact!
Ghana couldn’t trap a ball? What game were you watching?? Zambia began to swarm the midfield when they had conceded 2 goals and had nothing to lose. When they scored the goal, Ghana as an experience team needed to control and contain Zambia for the rest of the match. They just allowed you to run around but couldn’t get a shot at goal…………It was tactics and tactically Ghana was superior……….. Football is not all about passing….
We only had one option as for our opponents they had two options.
We thus could hardly match the team playing @ home.L:ets remeber the prevoius
misses in the last games as a lesson.Renard is not very bad but the heads must roll.we need a new resurgence of coaching staff to change our football.
They played well, It’s sad they are out. Chipolopolo were a better team than Ghana. Honestly not because I am Zambian but the Best Team Lost. Ghana are useless just used their home advantage, They cant even trap a ball??. Lesson for Zambia, never under-let any team. We messed up on Lesotho Game. That was the start of our fall. Renald should Now step aside, we need a New start. Thanx for your contribution but I think we need change. Kalusha should also give others a chance. The Whole FAZ needs to be reorganized.
Sudan must be laughing now bcoz of the 3 points withdrawn from them and given to Zambia. The Chance of qualifying was messed up the two games Zambia drew with Lesotho and Sudan. If Zambia won the two games they would have gone to Ghana to play a formality game.I hear Renar said we missed Jacob?did’nt we also miss Collins bwana Coach? The coach should exercise impartialilty to all our players.
The coach has tried his best under very difficult conditions. The problem lies squarely at the FAZ administration and the ministry of sport. These two bodies have failed to look after the most popular sport in the country.
The FAZ president is too casual and comfortable using his position to make personal gain. It is unbelievable that Kalusha is still at the helm of the FAZ. In other countries Kalusha should have been history by now. The ministry of sport is just one big joke!
Thumbs up to my lovely Chilpolopolo for wonderful neat display of football. You are worked hard guys for motherZambia & I remain proud of you. I really enjoyed how u played that tough game.Congrats to Chris Katongo for ur leadership. Bravo to the coach & thanks getting us this far I’m proud of u guys. Nothing is shameful you did your best
You cant have a coach who cant see anything wrong in drawing with Lesotho but still expects his team to go and beat Ghana in Kumasi. That’s day dreaming. HR is a fluke coach whether we like it or not. Which serious coach can still play Chamanga in his current form?
What has zambian football ever achieved to be comparing itself to ghana football. Plz give as abreak. Wining cosafa is like a drop in the ocean in world football.
Your players are 2nd division team players and only ply thier trade in SA league. Wake up zambians and stop the noise
The only best player in your team is zinzu. He is a good defender.
Zambian football cannot be compared to Ghana …… far from it….. Zambia has quality. What’s the point of having players in strong leagues if you can’t play good football as a nation? Ghana have no strategy … it’s all by fluke… after what i saw in the last game, i am very certain they will go nowhere come second round. These guys just run like athletes with no quality football.
Herve’s failure to come up with a potent strike force both at senior team ( katongo and mayuka ) and Zambia B ( festus and bornwell ) shows that he still has not mastered, hence would not teach (coach) the art of goal scoring.I feel he alway expect penalties in every game but not all games go to penalties.
From the time we lost on penalties to Nigeria we don’t lose any thanks to him.We can’t depend on this but find natural goal- getters. We need goals !!!
Ba Prince naimwe please “never under-let” nangu ” never underrate”? We cannot qualify to the world cup neither can our bloggers spell. We have a big problem bane.
West Africans are civil and more in tuned current trends. Woe to the one who descrided west Africans as primitive. I loved the team work and the spirit of the Zambian team in the clash with the Ghanaians, but it’s un42nate that they were not serious in games that they ought to have been serious. Moreover football is not about possession it’s about goals. Football in West Africa is miles ahead of that of Southern Africa region. That’s the truth.
The issue about Renards contract is no surprise to me. Football411.com indicates that he is intending to leave chipolopolo for Ghana. Check that site and you will realise that he is planning to dump us like he did before. Wake up Zambians, we need a Coach who will be with us even in bad times and good times.
