Katete District Development Planning Subcommittee has says it is optimistic that the district will record massive developmental growth.

Speaking during a district planning meeting committee Chairperson Mayaba Muntanga said Katete district had continued to record growth in both infrastructure and other social services.

He said government’s concentration to introduce metal Silos as an intervention to reduce grain wastage after harvest is an achievement.

Mr. Muntanga said according to last year’s survey on grain loss it was established that about 30 percent of grain was lost by farmers due to bad storage facilities.

ZANIS reports that the introduction of metal silos is a good development that will also improve food security among the farming communities.

He said Katete district is expecting to receive a total of 105 silos and some have already started to arrive.
He said about 80 farmers are expected to benefit together with some women cooperative groups and chiefs.

Mr. Muntanga noted that the initiative was good and implored government to consider bringing more trained personal that can make silos for the local farming communities.

Meanwhile, Mr. Muntanga said the Kampambe Fish project is progressing well and that the fish ponds have already been filled with water.

He added that fingerings have also been purchased and the only thing they were waiting for was for the water to settle so that the fingerings can be stocked for bleeding.

He further highlighted some developmental projects taking place in the district as the 15 km township road project.
Others include the rehabilitation of feeder roads, rehabilitation of a selected number of clinics and the street lighting.
