Home Affairs Minister, Edgar Lungu says there will be no sacred cow in the culprits that killed a suspected Patriotic Front (PF) cadre in yesterday’s fracas in Chelston area.

Mr Lungu has since directed Police Inspector General, Stellah Libongani, to bring the culprits to book.

Mr Lungu identified the deceased as Moses Mwela and sent his condolences to the bereaved family and wished them God’s guidance in this trying moments.

The Home Affairs minister said this in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday.

Mr Lungu, who is also PF Discipline Chairman, regretted that the ruling party is currently involved in violent acts which he said were previously associated with the opposition, MMD.

Mr Lungu, who read the Riot Act to his officers, said no time, resources and initiative must be spared in establishing who was behind the crime and bringing them to book.

[pullquote]President Sata wants to know who committed this crime and why …those are my full instructions from the Commander-in-Chief himself,” Mr Lungu said.[/pullquote]

The Home Affairs Minister, who said he was speaking on behalf of President Sata, told the police and other security wings to be “fearless” in their pursuit of justice.

“The police must know that I have instructions from the President for them to act swiftly to get to the bottom of this crime. A crime has been committed, blood has been spilt needlessly and President Sata wants to know who committed this crime and why …those are my full instructions from the Commander-in-Chief himself,” Mr Lungu said.

Mr Lungu urged the police to be “fearless” and objective in their probe and ignore the fact that the “criminal elements” could be from the ruling party.

“We are a party that wants to be above board, hence the reason we have continued to denounce this kind of senseless and embarrassing violence since it occurred. I am speaking here as head of security and chair of the party disciplinary committee …arrest and interrogate anyone regardless of their position whom you think had something to do with this crime within your legal means. This is an order and it’s what President Sata seeks.”

Mr Lungu said if the police do not get to the bottom of the murder, there shall never be peace in the party and President Sata will have little or nothing to act upon.

[pullquote]“President Sata needs to act but he needs to act on solid evidence and it’s the police’s job to gather that evidence. PF is not inherently a violent party. It’s a few charlatans that have fuelled this unprecedented violence and police shall smoke them out,” he said.[/pullquote]

“President Sata needs to act but he needs to act on solid evidence and it’s the police’s job to gather that evidence. PF is not inherently a violent party. It’s a few charlatans that have fuelled this unprecedented violence and police shall smoke them out,” he said.

One person died while two were reportedly admitted to the University Teaching Hospital intensive care unit with serious wounds. Another five were seriously wounded but discharged after treatment.

It remains unclear what sparked the intra-party fight but Mr Lungu expressed confidence that once the police arrest a few kingpins, the truth shall be laid bare.

“I am sure once we put some suspects on the spot, they will sing like canaries. I have confidence in the police and President Sata is waiting to see results,” he said.

The murder incident that happened at the height of peace in the country has been described by many as an extremely sad chapter and a glitch on the serene history of Zambia.

[pullquote]“I am sure once we put some suspects on the spot, they will sing like canaries. I have confidence in the police and President Sata is waiting to see results,” he said.[/pullquote]

Many international pundits have in the past described Zambia as a haven of peace with Mr Lungu adding: “Peace and harmony have forever been our biggest sales pitch for almost 50 years. We lose this reputation, we lose a lot.”

He said the country and the party in power must come to a point where it must start healing itself internally and externally and do so quickly after the needless loss of a life and a backdrop of serious injuries.

“The President is not happy with this, I can tell you. That’s why my message has this strong tone,” Mr Lungu said.
“Police must give me hourly and daily updates on what they are doing to seal this case…this is not going away easily as long as I am Home Affairs Minister,” he said.

And the number of PF cadres arrested for riotous behaviour has increased from 19 to 23 following the arrest of four more.
Police spokesperson Charity Chanda said the four were arrested to help police with investigations into the riots.

Mrs Chanda said all the 23 suspects will remain in police custody until investigations into the matter are concluded.

And senior PF Member, Julius Komaki, is still admitted after sustaining serious injuries during the fracas which involved two rival camps, one of which was led by Komaki himself who also led a group that mounted a check point on the airport road near Club Merylyn, screening PF officials who were going to attend the laying of the foundation stone at the KK international Airport with the view to blocking those to be supporters of Robert Chikwelete and former Lusaka district chairman, Goodson Banda’.

  1. An inherently violent party that thrives on confusion, divisionism and fueling hatred cannot be trusted to be the guardians of justice, fairness and rule of law.

    • Lungu… we know its Saturday, but you are NOT drunk like before.
Edgar do you know why Charles Taylor is at The Hague (Den Haag)? Do you why Gaddafi is gone? Omar- Omar Basir, never ride a horse with the mujaheddin.
Why why why all these? Why why why why Kabimba is more important than any other citizens? Can’t PF survive without Kabimba?

      Arrest: KABIMBA

    • You know who financed the unemployed youths. Why beat about the bush?

Go ahead and start arresting them please. Arrest Kabimba, MuMmembe and the other unemployed workers masquareding as party leaders in Lusaka.

    • “President Sata wants to know who committed this crime and why …those are my full instructions from the Commander-in-Chief himself,” Mr Lungu said.”

What kind of “bull ha,ha” is this? You know its Kabimba and GBM- the president trying to have it both ways is insulting the Zambian people’s intelligence. In Bemba they say “ukwipaya Ngoshe kuputula umutwe”

    • All who were involved including those who contributed financial or materially must be picked up and locked up(whether kabimba or GBM). I urge that police woman at NRDC junction to pick up that chaps who beat her. Madam show them your power now

  2. The PF must realise the more they allow their cadres to go in the streets to demonstrate for any reason they are encouraging violence. These acts of violence have very serious impavt on the popularity of the PF as a party and people are looking at the PF as a violent paryy.Hoogsnism has never resolved differences at any level. The PF must realise that the more they allow their cadres go in the street to demonstrate more and more people lose confidence in the party.Politcs of violence belongs to the stone age.Nonody should be allowed to go in the street to air their views! This is unaccrptable, primitive and irresponsible on the part of Lungu as the person responsible gor discipline. Its very disappointing to say the least!!

    • Remember the black mamamba period during Chiluba and was RB and UNIP then who were behind it, please check on HH and his mapatizia formula.

  3. PF member Henry Chanda died in livingstone

Great Bag of Mass beat up his wife

Bible Gospel Outreach Church in Africa (BIGOCA) violence

    Judge Ngoma shooting spree

    Northmead school violence

    The list is endless

  4. Very strong tone from me lungu, how I wish u were the president but knowing Mcs,he can’t do anything as he signed a paper with Winter, mmumembe, kaunda, and the stupid white man,if mcs was a serious leader he would have fired the ministers winter claim to be corrupt,he would have dropped winter when he said ,street kids, bemba cliques.would have caution stupid Whiteman when he talked about the A team.
So this is just politicking mcs mentality as usual.prevention is better than cure.

  5. ATI “The President is not happy with this, I can tell you. That’s why my message has this strong tone,” Mr Lungu said. SATA IS THE MOST VIOLENT MAN ON EARTH. REMEMBER THE KADOBI AND HIS GANG’ ISSUE WITH THEIR MACHETTE WIELDING WHEN SATA WAS MMD SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE PARTY SUPPORTING THE THIRD TERM FOR CHILUBA? WHO HAS FORGOTTEN HOW MUCH VIOLENCE SATA UNLEASHED ON INNOCENT SOULS? BA LUNGU MULEIKALAFYE. JUDGE NGOMA PRODUCED A FIRE ARM AND THREATENED VIOLENCE IN CHIPATA AND THE ISSUE WENT NOWHERE. WHOEVER HAS DONE THAT WILL RUN AWAY WITH IT SINCE HE IS A PF CADRE. WHAT INVESTIGATION ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT WHEN YOU KNOW THE CULPRITS. STOP PRETENDING. YOU ARE PART OF THIS VIOLENCE ALL OF YOU IN PF LEADERSHIP. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AS LEADERS PERIOD AND EDUCATE YOU CADRES.

    • “Police must give me hourly and daily updates on what they are doing to seal this case…this is not going away easily as long as I am Home Affairs Minister,” he said. He should have continued. This is to select who should be arrested and who should be let free.

  6. this is bullu 5h!t statement from this hutu/tutsi looking like man from rwanda.curing the diseases requires that you kill the causes and not symptoms and these hapen to be gbm and wynter.secondly stop always condemning mmd for your evils.komaki, mwila, goodson, kamba…are these mmd?thirdly the number of deaths is more than four and not one.fourthly leave this satanic president(sata) out of this because he should hav prevented death by sorting out gbm and wynter problem.

  7. Lungu’s statement is all rhetoric & useless. In fact his better off jst keepin quite. Its sooo scary to visualize where this PF is taking us. Wht are we going to tell our children surely??

From the head of state to this so called lungu and all PF ministers they are all accountable to this violence tht has taken root

  8. GBM is winning the battle because of his rich violent profile. This is a man who gave youths in kasama eggs to throw at FTJ Chiluba’s vihecle at kusefya pang’wena, beating his wife and mistreating people at Intercity .I know Kabimba’s profile well and can give oppositions a good fight than GBM hence calls for him to resign even by oppositions.

    • U know Kabimba well oh. Seems you don know.

Kabimba stood under Zadeco in 1996 as MP flopped, stood under ZRP as MP for Mumbwa in 2001 flopped, and again flopped in 2006. I bet if he had stood in 2011, he agin would have flopped. Sata sensed that and decided to use his to be sweeping floors instead.

Kabimba cannot even be elected by his own flock, how about others. In your dreams.

    • What about those pangas that were brandished and sharpened when Kabimba was instructing his cadres to resist MMD cadres just before the 2011 elections?

  9. edgar lungu u are not different from kabimba you are both very dull lawyers but yet so sharp on the mouth.the police in zambia fail to carry out such missions cos they are compromised the office of the president was the one supposed to conduct investigations on this one.and secondly sata was supposed to adress the nation on this escalating violence in the country not you why cos this is a national worry cos peace and harmony in this country are under threat.we are not kids to be fooled by sata and guy scot and you all foo.ls by thinkn we dnt know wat the problem is.the more you shield the more sorrow and misery will follow you.

  10. PF VIOLENCE exposes the party’s weaknesses. Muarmar Gadaffi thought he was very powerful until he found himself hiding in a dirty hole beneath a country highway. Zambia is not a one party state where you can rule as president forever. PF leaders have committed too many atrocities in a very short period of time. Don’t expect the entire nation to forget this.

    • The strength of the snake, however long and fat it may be lies in the head. To kill the snake, you strike the head!

The Cobra. The spitting aggessive cobra.

The cobra brings forth so many snakelings we call cadres. But these children are like their father in one respect, they have vernom. And there is no vernom of a small snake and vernom of might big spitting cobra. It is all the same; toxic, deadly vernom. The panga strike of a cadre has the same mortal effect as the one struck by Summer Kamimbya, linemba munembe or even mr riff raff. All so life threatening.

Putula umutwe wensoka and Zambia shall once more be free. And arrest and cage the snake charmer, chi senile kaunda.

  11. Sometimes you wonder why Zambian politicians, Presidents & their surrogates, find it hard to condemn political violence when they think it serves them right.

Before we had the likes of KK and his violent vigilantes. Then came Chiluba and his MMD violent political wing—initially spearheaded by Sata himself and later taken over by William Banda (now UPND senior advisor). RB came along, and like all his predecessors, he also gave a silent nod to this barbaric behavior. Now it is PF, and the COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF is awfully AWOL when it comes to these issues, WHY!?

I really pray that some day we will have a President who will clearly see political violence for what it is: A MOROLE & CULTURAL CANCER that, if left unchecked, will consume us all. Bakateka, do something b4 it is too late!

    • @Yambayamba; how can the chief sponsor of Chawama hacking and Kanyama house destroyer not to mention beating of street vendors and fights with Mumbi do anything other than worship and enjoy violence. A man whose language is I will sort you out or they will sort you out and who celebrates his name of cobra or insoka cannot be our saviour.

    • We had Mwanawasa before, there were no such violence in the country. Another president, I can’t just remember his name.

  12. edgar lungu u are not different from kabimba you are both very dull lawyers but yet so sharp on the mouth.the police in zambia fail to carry out such missions cos they are compromised the office of the president was the one supposed to conduct investigations on this one.and secondly sata was supposed to adress the nation on this escalating violence in the country not you why cos this is a national worry cos peace and harmony in this country are under threat.we are not kids to be fooled by sata and guy scot and you all foo.ls by thinkn we dnt know wat the problem is.the more you shield the more sorrow and misery will follow you.ishh

  13. Lungu says “the President wants to know who committed the crime and why”? I have difficulties to believe that the President does not know why this crime was commuted . Crime is the order of the day in PF. PF removed DCs from offices illegally and violently, who were duly appointed using the same cadres. They (PF leaders) were watching and even justifying it . They have seen their cadres wield machetes in streets causing fear among citizens. I demand that Lungu must apologize to citizens and not cheating us that the schemer of violence can express ignorance over the violence he has caused himself. It defies logic. PF must know we voted for you but you have failed us . It is our right to continue to search for leadership that will drive this county. Bye bye come 2016.

  14. ba Lusaka times mwabakunda manyokwe ba pombo nwebo..show all the coments mother fu.ckers why ar you so selective.be professional 1diots.

    • People were mad about pf. Some of us were not. I once told my close relative that pf is going destroy many things and a colleague one day told a strong pf supporter that sometimes it is better to let people experience the change they want. What a bitter lesson they are learning now.

  15. From “allergic to corruptio” to ” no sacred cows”…we’ve heard it all before from you chaps. F-oo/ me once shame on me f-oo/ me twice shame on you. Get out of here with those BS lies…muleya yena 2016 even if it means by panga (if u manipulate elections)…

  16. Matanya ba PF ba swanela ku tamwa kaufela bona; haili baeteli bona ba swanela ku tuluka, ku kala ku yena Lungu. This country is really slipping out of the hands of PF; what a confused pack leading us.

  17. Good to know the home affairs minister has the blessing of the president in condemning the violence. Two questions though: who blessed the Vice President’ s flippant and insensitive statement in parliament on the same event? Are we to understand that it is now the official position that the police will not do their job when bloody violent altercations perpertrated by ruling party thugs at the instigation of senior party functionaries occur before their very eyes until the president asks them to? A message to our leaders we the people are outraged at all this and demand that the instigators of the violence be arrested immediately to show us that our president is sincere in these pronouncements.

  18. PF Sata and Lungu can do what ever they like, history has been minted that PF party is a violent group of rouges who have resorted to killing each other and its affecting us all. To insulate this violence Zambians must take a deep long thought whether PF should continue to exist in its current state or be de registered.
Violence belongs to uncivilized people and Zambia does not have such people inless they come from outside sponsored by uncivilized leaders.

  19. These squabbles in PF are they ever going to end. Lives now are being lost. Who are the masterminders of these intra-party wars. Something needs to be done before many more people die. We ushered PF in office because we believed that we have what we wanted; development but now it is fighting. Police can you please arrest all the perpetrators of this violence. We are tired of seeing and hearing the same things. Day in Day out. Nabeba ine mwe!

  20. GBM has been fuelling this for months. Nsanda is the one who masterminded this roadblock by PF faction belonging to Nsanda.
Police shall arrest Willie Nsanda. He will sing like a Canary

    • It is true….Nsanda organised the latest violence but unfortunately, his team lost. He went to the hospital using violence to the medcs to see his failed commander Kamoki or is it Kimoki whoever this fool is.. Imwe Ba Nsanda mwalafwilapo fye….stop it you riffraff…

  21. These squabbles in PF are they ever going to end? Lives now are being lost. Who are the masterminders of these intra-party wars. Something needs to be done before many more people die. We ushered PF in office because we believed that we have what we wanted; development but now it is fighting. Police can you please arrest all the perpetrators of this violence. We are tired of seeing and hearing the same things. Day in Day out. Nabeba ine mwe!

    • @ IPM,
I have been wondering if at all no one managed to put this primitive act on utube? Enough eveidence would be collected does it meant that no witnesses or cadres have Iphones?

  22. The problem is that the so called cadres have been given too much power to do whatever they like. Police start caging them so that they learn a lesson. Give them maximum sentences to deter the would be assassins. This is getting out of hand!

    • Yes this GBM is untouchable!! The president does not know what to do with this situation…. Hands tied ba Mudala and hoping this issue will go away on its own. Take a risk mudala…The greatest RISK is not to take a RISK….This is leadership……Ba MCS!

  23. KABIMBA IS BEHIND THIS, SORT HIM OUT. WHO Z KABIMBA, HOW SPECIAL IS HE? AFOOLISH PARASITE AND KOTWE TRING TO BRING CONFUSION IN PF, WANYELA KUTULILO. TENGE MAN AND ZAMBIA.

  24. Lungu is mere stooge who can’t ponder out issues himself, pf thuggery and thugs are well known like komaki who swears to continue fighting kabimba once he recovers.

  25. These PF leaders are a big joke. Lungu says he is speaking on behalf of the president. Where is the president? Is the president trivializing the violence or was the violence carried out on his behalf?
Lungu says there will be no sacred cows, surely he is not being honest because we all know the sacred cows that will not be touched, GBM and Kabimba.

    • It is like Lungu is now taking it upon himself to act as long as he remains in charge of internal security. He is frustrated by the inaction from the top…and may be considering quitting….

  26. Truly pathetic that Mr. Lungu feels the need to speak nonsense about “sacred cows”. So the Minister is saying someone cannot get away with murder? Wow, who would have guessed?

Serious, if there really are “no sacred cows” how about arresting ALL THE COWS that staged the illegal roadblock on the airport road and ran amok in town? Aren’t those things also illegal?

Oh, I see….. it’s only MURDER that PF cadres cannot get away….. after the Minister says so?

In the meantime all other kinds of lawlessness are just OK if done by someone in green chitenge with Mr. Sata’s picture on it? Fabulous….. and for this PF claims they are the peace loving victims of “rogue elements” who came over from the opposition.

    Shame for this awful leadership!

    Shame!

  27. Reading between the lines, Lungu is just referring to MCS to strengthen his stand. The whole issue is a mess. The two protagonists GBM and Kabimba should have been removed a long time ago…now life has been lost…and pf don’t know just how to handle the issue.

  28. LIBONGANI CAN ARREST WHO? SHE WAITS FOR SATA TO TELL HER WHO TO ARREST. DO YOU KNOW THAT IN ZAMBIA CADRES ARE MORE POWERFUL TODAY THAN ANYONE ELSE? THEY ARE SECOND TO SATA. KAUNDA IS RUNNING THE COUNTRY INDIRECTLY. SATA WAS IN CHARGE OF VIGILANTES DURING SENILE KK’S REIGN. IT WAS ALWAYS BY AIR. NOW THEY HAVE STARTED KILLING EACH OTHER OVER NOTHING. DYING FOR GBM OR KABWAMBA, FOR WHAT. UNCIVILISED THUGS.

  29. The silence from the Catholic Church is almost criminally too loud to bear! Almost as unbearably painful as the silence from the supposed secretary-general of the party at the centre of the violence who also happens to be the minister of justice! Never in the history of Zambia has a political party so imploded so quickly and so tragically! RIP PF – Nov 2011 – Nov 2013.

  30. The fact that you are saying “There will be no sacred cow” goes to confirm that there are many “sacred cows” of Kabimba which you cant touch!
What nons.ense are you telling us Lungu you coward! You already lost Chikwelete and now realised how useless and compromised your pol.ice force is. Even with your orders, the police force is too corrupt and wont touch SataN’s sacred cows. Stop living in cuckoo land and come back to reality where Lungu’s useless Libongani never gets the right results even with SataNs half baked support!

  31. Lungu-what you ve said though strongly is common knowledge;even the most illiterate zambian expects that from government. u guys ve failed us-you talk would ve been meaningful when the first anti-kabimba protest was staged. its too late

  32. MCS is compromised, with two unruly children (GBM & Kabimba)
MCS is WEAK, confused about what to do, well FIRE BOTH
& prosecute BOTH along with their stooges
    Anarchy is growing
    Nip it in the bud
Police, shu shu, do the right thing, SAVE ZAMBIA
Zambia is bigger than one political party
    2016 VOTE them OUT

  33. This is the stuff Sata is made of. Remember Chawama violence in 2001? Remember Mulungushi rock conference in 2001? That is Sata’s legacy – violence. Our sincere hope is that the violence he is sowing today will not visit his household in the future. Its a case of sowing and reaping.

  34. PF leadership has run of sacrifices, they are now sacrificing each other. That is Sata’s legacy – violence.

  35. Is all what we need.
It is not cadres. It is Sata to blame for it Wedon’t need someone like him to be presido.
everything will be alright if Sata is out

  36. Iwe ka Lungu just shut up! Mwikate na Summer waumfwa!!! No munobe Fat Albert. Those are the two cows that you should not consider sacred. You will never have peace you idiots sending poor people to kill each other over your silly egos!!!! what have gained? Would that senseless battle have occurred without the curse of you idiots being Zambian?
