The 2013 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup gets underway on Wednesday in Kenya with Zambia featuring as the only guest side at the regional tournament.
Zanzibar and South Sudan clash in the opener in Nyayo as 12 teams battle it out in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Machakos.
Uganda are the defending champions of the tournament for East and Central African national teams that ends on 12th December.
Group A has Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Zanzibar.
Zambia are in Group B alongside Tanzania, Burundi and Somalia, while Group C has Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan and Eritrea.
CECASFA Cup is said to be the oldest regional tournament in Africa, having been started in 1926 then known as the Gossage Cup for British Protectorates of Kenya, Uganda Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
In 1967 it was renamed Senior Challenge Cup and it has been organized regularly since then but it has failed to inspire competitiveness, triggering a debate on whether it should be made a development tournament for the youth teams.
Meanwhile, Zambia begins the CECAFA outing on Thursday with a seemingly tricky tie against Tanzania in Machakos.
The youthful Chipolopolo squad will face Burundi on 1st December before wrapping up Group B matches with a date against Somalia on December.
Terrible excuse for failure is football
disgraceful
Thanks
I think you should understand what failure is.
Not having academic qualification i.e Degrees, Masters, PHD, etc does not mean one is a failure, Asia’s richest man Li Ka-shing is a School drop out at age 16 and as at 2012 his net worth was USD31 Billion.
And take a leaf from one of the most successful football player; Pele.
You only become a failure when you give up on achieving that which you embarked on.
So ba Mushota if you claim you are a PHD student and can not comprehend such small issues i find it hard to believe you.
i WISH THE CHIPOLOPOLO BOYS ALL THE BEST. COACH THIS IS THE TIME TO PROVE YOURSELF. MAY GOD BLESS YOU GO ZAMBIA GO CHIPOLOPOLO !
Why involve God? Do you think God don’t Somalians or Uganda?
God’s blessing need not only mean a win. Even playing without any of the players coming out of the game with an injury is a blessing on its own. Loosing is also a blessing also. All things are made for the good of those who love their God. Romans 8:28
I meant to say without an injury.
