Mbewe hands Beaumelle debut win

Share

Festus Mbewe’s second half goal against Burundi ended Zambia’s nine-match winless draught and handed Patrice Beaumelle’s debut win in charge.

Zambia’s last win was on August 3 when they beat Botswana 2-0 in a 2014 CHAN qualifier in Ndola.

On Sunday, Zambia also beat Burundi for the first time ever after a 1-0 win in both sides penultimate Group B match at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.

Hero of the day was under-fire striker Festus Mbewe who came off the bench in the 59th minute to show his replacement and under-par Bornwell Mwape how it is done.

The Nkana striker turned in a Felix Katongo cross with ice cold finish from close-range just six minutes after coming on to silence his critics over his recent performances for Zambia.

His goal raises his tally to three for Zambia this year since making his senior debut last April against Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, it wasn’t all plain sailing against Burundi who were unfortunate not to have found the target in the first half.

In the 23rd minute, Burundi watched in amazement as star striker Abdul Fiston’s scissors kick came off the horizontal with goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata beaten.

The win leaves Zambia tied on four points with Tanzania after they beat Somalia 1-0 in the earlier kickoff at Nyayo.

Zambia must beat Somalia in their final game on December 4 at Nyayo to try and finish in the top two to guarantee a place in the quarterfinals.

Two best third place finishers’ slots are also up for grabs from the three groups.

    • @Mapao, where did you come from, you just sounds like experiencing losses in his life. You so annoyed of everything. You better go out and look for happiness, a guy like you can’t even get a woman. If you a woman, you must have hard time to like your body. Don’t commit suicide, atleast not on a Sunday.

    • yes for change please!!! cindy do you that our girls are going to world cup??… me, i support our girl teams,, under 10, under 17,, under 20. senior team…kaufela!!,, less heart attacks mwe
mwati.. its the boys,, awe sure!!!.. were you expect to win, they lose,, were expect them to lose the draw,, am tired of heart attacks

    • @ Ndobo,
I actually do, the most shocking thing is that am into the Male soccer team than the females,I have no idea why infact I’ve tried so many times giving it unnecessary attention just to see if I can get hooked but to no avail, how ironic is that? Anyway, I still believe in the Chipolopolo boys they will soon find their mark.

    • @Ndobo kekekekeke at Under 10… Kaufela kaa. Somehow Ba Cindy is kind of right not to be so affectionate on Women Soccer. My lady always screams when a woman player is about or controls ball on her chest!!
I enjoy women soccer too, you know USA-Team women team is best!

  1. You mean we have never played our Burundian neighbours in our life? Iam surprised. I thought the only team we have never played in Africa was Djibouti

  2. So now when are we going to hire a proper experienced manager?? These are the questions we should be asking FAZ remember last year when they were organizing friendlies with weak opposition; it came back to bite us…..we are making the selfsame mistake with this boy Patrice Beaumelle. The time for changes is now, now, now not when its too late.
    Wake Up People!!

    • @ Jay jay,
Can you sincerely suggest some names of your prefered local and international managers? Am curious as to which ones you feel can turn things around over night considering the current one has always been around these players which to me indicates that he must by now know their strengths and weaknesses, thus, with time we should expect a better performance. As for me and myself alone, I have given him till June, hopefully, I dont see HRs team but Beaumelles teams.

    • @Ba Cindy – Patrice Beaumelle is HR’s protégé, do the simple math here, the master was an average and couldn’t win matches in all honesty what is it that Patrice is going to bring to the table. We need to try a different approach an experienced manager doesn’t need to know the players hence the term; moreover any new manager has more than enough time to build a squad as we don’t have any competitive matches. We are not going anywhere….lets be realistic unless they corrupt thieves at Football House are merely keeping Patrice there so they can continue drawing HR’s wages!!

    • @Jay Jay:

I doubt you will like anybody FAZ picks for a coach!

Even if they change managers tomorrow, you will still be complaining about the choice. It looks like COMPLAINING & NEGATIVITY is career to some of you. I think the problem you have is not with the coach or FAZ, but personal grudges with certain individuals at FAZ—sometimes you sound like Simata Simata in disguise!

By the way, answer the question Cindy has posed to you: WHO DO YOU HAVE IN MIND FOR COACH THAT ZAMBIA CAN AFFORD?????

    • I can answer your question as I’m not privy to ministry of sport’s budget allocations for the national team head coach’s salary as everything is done in secrecy in Zambia even when taxpayer’s funds are unashamedly used.
Why don’t you pause the selfsame questions to Faz; like when are they are going to stop being spoonfed by the gov’t? What happened to the winnings from AFCON 2012?
As long as Faz is dependent on poor taxpayers and continues wasting money due to poor administration, incompetence its criminal for us for us to keep quiet.
      Wake up! !

    • I was waiting for Jay Jay, so you are here down on #7?
You LOSTSTSTSTSTST Jay Jay you lost, Zambia and Patrice won the match. Hang yourself Jay Jay. Thank you Festus Mbewe for tormenting this guy Jay Jay.
Next will be Jay Jay’s Somalia vs Zambia’s Beamulle
      Jay Jay 0-4 Beamulle.

    • @Nostradamus it just goes to show how our standards have fallen. ..surely how can you be bragging about winning against small teams like those you have mentioned above? Its sad and you call yourselves AFCON 2012 champions, lets be serious.
      Wake up!!

    • Why are we wasting so much time on this so called coach….Zambians why are we so slow in almost everything? Let us use this period before any official games to prepare a strong team with the much needed techniques and football knowledge?

  3. Most of these Zambian coaches its just jealousy, they have coahed the team before and they have failed terribly. I remember under Patrick we even used to lose to Mazabuka select.

    • When was the last time we gave our own the selfsame opportunity you give these average foreign managers are getting? If a Zambian drew the selfsame number of draws as HR would you have been patient with them? Some of these foreign managers wouldn’t even manage a conference team in England. How come its working in Nigeria and Ghana…why not us?
Wake up and emancipate yourselves from mental slavery!!

  4. Next time this tournament should be held in Zed,Tz or Ug where there are better pitches, stadiums and football is more venerated than to be in kenya where they only know athletics and their pitches are so poor.

  5. I have the solution for Chipolopolo’s problems!
    1. SACK BAUMELLE.
    2. SACK KALUSHA.
    3. Give both Job’s to Jay Jay, & Zambia shall be saved.

  6. Nothing to celebrate about, a cross from the drunkard and womaniser Felix katongo ah please it was not him who crossed it was mukuka mulenga , did u watch the game ba LT? ONE to zero to burundi is a shame for zambia

    • It is not a shame, you.
There is no small team in modern football. Three weeks ago Spain Lost to South Africa. would you say shame on spain?
      Grow up.

  7. @Jay Jay … I find reasoning very absurd. We can perform a simple measurement on the ability of our local coaches by simply gauging how they have faired on the continential level. Iam sure that will give us an indication whether we are ready for local coach or not. So please lets support the Chipolopolo Boys and Coach Baumelle.

  8. Festus that was a very classic goal but all in all the guys played well credit given to all of them though the refere targeted Sate Sate.

  9. Sekafa cup is a laughing cup. I laughed like hell at how our players celebrated the goal. I can watch just that over and over.
So jay jay and company cease fire lest you spoil my laughter (chilembi).

  10. Go go Zambia Festus 3 goals in two games you’re our hero you are really playing classic football together with the squad splendid I should say.
