Government disburses K70,000 to Chipata women

Share

Government, through the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health, has disbursed over K70,000 in form of grants to eight women groups in Chipata.

The money is aimed at improving the welfare of women through Income Generating Activities (IGAs).

Speaking when he officiated at a hand over ceremony of cheques to women groups, Chipata District Commissioner, Kalunga Zulu, said government had a programme of supporting women so that they become economically and socially empowered.

Mr Zulu said most women were vulnerable to Gender Based Violence ( GBV) because they were economically and socially weak.
He was speaking in a speech read for him by District Administrative Officer, Masauso Banda, at Hillside Girls’ Secondary School Teachers’ Resource Centre in Chipata today.

Mr Zulu said government remained committed to supporting women’s efforts of reducing poverty at their households.

He advised the women to prove to government that they were serious with what they asked for by not misusing funds which were coming from the national treasury.

‘We need to prove to government by putting the money to good use that we mean business with what we requested for,’ Mr Zulu said.

And Chipata District Community Development Officer, Nelson Banda, said women had a lot of responsibilities and it was the reason why government empowered them economically and socially.

Mr Banda said government wanted to help women come out of poverty so that they do not lag behind in terms of development.
And moving a vote of thanks, Osauka Siatopa Women’s group member, Eunice Zulu, thanked government for coming to the aid of women.
This year, government has so far disbursed K 261, 496-00 to 30 women groups in Chipata.

    • Please Easterners use your brains and reject the PF MPs so that Sata the VSTC can nullify the seats for another bye election again and send more money to bribe you once more.

If you do not follow my advice, then you will never see free money coming your way again until election time.

  1. Govt should not be funding NGOs because govt have a specific role and so do NGOs. The role of NGOs is to complement govt efforts through other means other than using tax payers money. Thats why NGOs rely on donors and fundraising ventures. So how can govt fund an NGO? This is an example of our lack of understanding of which direction we want to go and just do things so we can be seen to be doing something.

    • ” ……….So how can govt fund an NGO? This is an example of our lack of understanding of which direction we want to go and just do things so we can be seen to be doing something.” So, the American Govt which gives out billions of tax dollars to help groups in the USA lacks understanding??????? I did’nt know!!!

    • @ Wanita,
Developed economies such as USA, UK have enacted laws to “fill in the gaps” to help communities struggling to earn a living. This is after water, housing, schools and health care etc have been provided and even then within an operational framework.

For instance NGOs in UK claim 20% of every pound donated to them from govt, and that is law. Apply that to Zambia, who else can go to govt and claim K70 000 like those organisations? How much of such money is allocated in the budget? And what criteria should an NGO meet to access such money? The questions can go on and on.

  2. @ Eshu

PF don’t need lessons from rat eaters who can be even be represented by dogs.

Luapula, Northern, Mchinga and isolated votes like:

LT 5/12 Construction of the Mongu Kalabo road impresses residents. Ms Mercy Tukamone, a Mongu resident found at LEALUI fishing Camp, Ms Mercy Tukamone, has thanked the PF government for the tremendous road works it has taken in the province saying this will enhance sustainable development in the area.
LUSAKA VOICE21/11 The Mongu-Kalabo road progress cheers Mongu and Kalabo residents BECAUSE in the past, the mention of the term Mongu- Kalabo road had become synonymous with failed political and developmental undertakings.
LT 16/12. Marrapodi UCZ minister in charge R Sikaundi thanked the government for the mushrooming in Mandevu will be ENOUGH.

  3. @ Wanzelu or are you Ulibe Nzelu?

    Please read my earlier postings.

This government does not have to buy votes or bribe anyone. The investment in infrastructure will speak for itself come 2016.

People like Marrapodi UCZ minister in charge Royd Sikaundi thanked government for the mushrooming development in Mandevu (LT 16/12/2013) will speak for themselves in 2016.

  4. Get the money but DONCHI KUBEBA because all by-elections in Eastern province should be nullified should PF win!
How do we justify these donations when we have just nullified Solwezi Central on account of a church offering?
